Chapter 808: Disappointment
Chapter 808: Disappointment
The female mind is a complex thing, and that of Kanroji Mitsuri was no exception, especially when compared to other girls her age. However, Feng Ye was currently in his 'ordinary person' mode, with his abilities of foresight and mind-reading dormant. As such, he had no way of knowing what she was thinking.
While he could make some educated guesses based on her personality and actions, it only brought a slight smile to his face.
He was acutely aware that he was now a young, ordinary doctor, fully immersed in this role. He intended to experience life through the eyes of this character without breaking character, no matter what surprises came his way.
Behind him, Kanroji Mitsuri hesitated, tugging at her collar with both hands as she watched the direction Feng Ye had left in. In the end, she didn't dare to catch up and ask for his name.
Although she possessed exceptional strength and courage compared to other girls, her boldness around the opposite sex was lacking, especially after her repeated failed blind dates.
Staring blankly at Feng Ye's retreating back until he disappeared at the end of the street, Kanroji Mitsuri finally snapped out of her daze, feeling a twinge of disappointment. She rubbed her face with her small hands, trying to calm herself.
That was when she remembered her task.
Hurrying along the street, she soon arrived at a quieter street and looked around to get her bearings. After walking a little further, she spotted a traditional medicine hall on the right side of the road, with an old-fashioned sign hanging outside.
Kanroji Mitsuri entered the medicine hall and looked around. Seeing no one, she hesitantly called out, "Umm, is anyone here?"
As she finished speaking, a curtain in the back room was lifted, and a head poked out. It was Feng Ye, who asked, "Are you here for a consultation or to buy medicine? Oh, it's you. Are you buying medicine for someone else?"
Of course, it was Feng Ye who had poked his head out. As he was playing the role of a doctor, he had the medical knowledge and skills to match. From their brief encounter earlier, he could tell that Kanroji Mitsuri was in perfect health.
"Ah..." Kanroji Mitsuri was taken aback to see Feng Ye here, and her voice stuttered as she asked, "You... are you the doctor?"
Feng Ye emerged from behind the curtain, saying, "I've only taken over this medicine hall recently, but so far, I haven't received any complaints."
Seeing the look on Kanroji Mitsuri's face, Feng Ye couldn't help but chuckle.
Kanroji Mitsuri's face was flushed, and she was so nervous that she felt flustered, with beads of perspiration forming on her forehead. Anyone who didn't know better would think that something terrible had happened.
In his role as a young doctor, Feng Ye's appearance was closer to his original looks, but he had deliberately toned down his attractiveness slightly. Otherwise, he would seem too perfect and not like an ordinary person.
With his current looks, most girls would only glance at him twice, and those with weaker resistance might blush a little. It was unusual for someone to react as intensely as Kanroji Mitsuri.
Feng Ye could only attribute it to her unique personality.
Seeing that she didn't respond, he smiled gently and said, "I'm quite confident in my medical skills, so you don't need to worry. Just tell me what you need."
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Kanroji Mitsuri snapped back to attention, her face turning even redder. She didn't dare to look up at him and stammered, "Ah... no, I'm sorry. I... I need some medicine for bruises and sprains. My father hurt his leg a few days ago while working in the fields..."
"From what you've described, it doesn't sound too serious," Feng Ye said. "I'll prescribe some standard medication for that."
"Yes, I remember," Kanroji Mitsuri nodded.
"That will be twenty-three blocks," Feng Ye said.
Kanroji Mitsuri quickly paid the amount and hesitated, wondering if she should ask for Feng Ye's name. But before she could, he lifted the curtain and went back into the back room.
Ah...
She didn't ask again...
As Feng Ye's figure disappeared from her sight, Kanroji Mitsuri stood there conflicted for a while before finally leaving the clinic with a hint of regret.
On her way back, she was so distracted that she almost tripped. Fortunately, her exceptional physical condition kicked in, and she only tumbled, landing gracefully without spilling the medicine packet she was carrying.
Upon returning home with the medicine, Kanroji Mitsuri called out, "I'm home!"
Her family was already gathered at the dinner table, waiting for her to join them before starting their meal.
"Alright, let's eat," her father smiled and nodded.
Kanroji Mitsuri put down the medicine packet and took her seat at the table.
"I'm starting!" her younger brother beside her blurted out impatiently, and he began eating swiftly. Soon, everyone followed suit, eating at the same quick pace.
Due to Kanroji Mitsuri's large appetite, the family had developed the habit of eating quickly and refrained from chatting during meals, or else she would finish all the food by herself.
However, today, Kanroji Mitsuri ate much slower than usual, her thoughts consumed by the image of Feng Ye.
It wouldn't have been so bad if it were just a chance encounter, but meeting him again at the clinic and learning that he was the town's doctor, a kind one at that, made it hard for her to simply forget about him.
Even during the post-dinner chat, when her father informed her about another arranged blind date he had set up for her the next day, she was still distracted, not even bothering to inquire about the prospective partner.
Her father attributed her preoccupation to the disappointment from her previous failed blind date and tried to comfort her, assuring her that there would be someone more suitable for her if this one didn't work out.
That night, in their not-so-spacious room, while her sisters on both sides were already asleep, Kanroji Mitsuri lay awake, her mind a jumble of chaotic thoughts.
Tomorrow, she would have another blind date. She wondered what kind of person this one would be.
...
The doctor she met earlier in the day was so handsome and kind. It was a shame she didn't get to ask his name... But someone as wonderful as him must be married already.
I wonder what kind of girl he married.
...
What if he's not married? Should I gather the courage to pursue him?
Ah...
But my strength might scare him away. And I knocked him over earlier, so he probably has a bad impression of me.
...
But he doesn't seem very robust. If it were me, I could protect him.
Hmm, but would any man like being protected by a girl?
What a disappointment...
