Chapter 805: Second Chance
Chapter 805: Second Chance
"ROARRRRRR!"
Melo howled in frustration, his voice sounding almost inhuman. The Flame Cannon's barrage relentlessly bombarded his entire field, a series of explosions that seemed to tear his soul from his body.
This was not an exaggeration; it was a literal depiction. The continuous bombardment blasted a white shadow out of Melo's body, as if his soul was being ripped out.
The white entity, once freed from Melo's body, let out an even more frenzied roar, and its size expanded to several times its original form. Initially, it appeared to be only half the size of Melo, but within seconds of its furious roar, it had grown to twice their height.
Its initially blank face now had abstract features, with eyes brimming with rage and a mouth that seemed to be swallowing and spitting out hurricanes.
Light of Annihilation.
You Xuan knew from the start that the entity he faced was this thing. It attached itself to a human body like a parasite, using the host as a medium to exert its power.
Based on its behavior in the anime, the Light of Annihilation seemed to be a symbiotic entity. It had possessed the murderer D.D., who stole Blood M.D., leaned over Blood M's cards, possessed Saiou, and even attached itself to Yubel, causing her to evolve into two new forms she didn't have before.
The Light of Annihilation could possess both spirits and humans, manipulate the host, and significantly enhance their abilities or even develop new ones. However, it likely couldn't act independently and would lose most of its power without a host.
This was the case now.
The entity raged, howled, and flailed its claws, presenting a ferocious appearance. But You Xuan could see that beneath this show of strength, it was at its limits.
Just as the entity tried to lunge forward, an iron cage suddenly dropped from above with a loud clang.
The Light of Annihilation froze in surprise.
Its pounce paused for two seconds, and then it slowly raised its head.
It found itself trapped within a scorching hot iron cage, with You Xuan's Tamashi, the Lava God, looming above. The burning giant stood outside the cage, lowering its head and tilting its head, its eyes meeting the entity's gaze.
An awkward standoff ensued for a few seconds.
Then, Iron Dummy slowly extended its hand, spreading its fingers and pressing them onto the top of the cage.
Endless Lava hissed, emitting white smoke that poured down onto the trapped Light of Annihilation like a drenching rain.
The Light of Annihilation let out a piercing howl, struggling desperately within the cage. It tried to escape, but upon touching the iron cage, the entire cage turned red-hot as if it were burning. It shrieked even louder and quickly retreated, its massive form shrinking rapidly under the pouring lava, resembling a candle flickering in the wind, about to extinguish.
"No!"
Melo, who had just collapsed on the ground, suddenly sprang up and rushed towards the cage, ignoring the scorching heat.
But as soon as his hands touched the iron cage, he let out a sharp cry, his hands burning and becoming a bloody mess. He rolled on the ground in agony. In that brief moment of contact, his hands were scorched and mangled.
Melo, lying on the ground, also extended his bloody, mangled hand towards the Light of Annihilation, struggling to reach it.
One hand inside the cage, the other outside, they were separated by just an arm's length, but the lava-filled iron cage kept them apart, like an unbridgeable chasm.
You Xuan: "..."
Should I make this a tragic separation like the Misfortunate Lovers? It seems like I'm the villain keeping you apart.
Well, now that I've finally blasted the Light of Annihilation out of its host, I certainly won't give them a chance to reunite.
And so, You Xuan stepped forward and casually stepped on Melo's hand, which was desperately reaching out towards the cage.
Melo let out a howl that was a hundred times more miserable than before, desperately trying to pull his arm back but unable to, his body helplessly convulsed uncontrollably.
"You're not controlled by Light of Annihilation, are you?"
You Xuan looked down at him and asked calmly.
"Or at least, not entirely."
This wasn't the first time You Xuan had dealt with such cosmic forces. In the past, he had already encountered many people infected by this evil light, who had regained their freedom and sanity under his righteous influence. After breaking free from the control of Light of Annihilation, these people would quickly regain their senses, restoring their original personalities, and there would be significant changes compared to before.
But Melo was different.
You Xuan was certain that he should have already broken free from control, and Light of Annihilation had indeed been blasted out of his body. Yet, he remained so obsessed with this evil cosmic parasite. After finally regaining his freedom, he disregarded everything and desperately wanted to reunite with it.
Melo angrily raised his head and glared at You Xuan.
"What do you know!"
He roared.
"Even if I am controlled, so what?"
"I know, it brainwashes me, uses me, but what of it? Before encountering it, I was just a failure, I was nothing!"
"Is that so?"
You Xuan looked down at him and said.
"Even if its purpose is to destroy this world?"
"This world never cared about me in the first place, let it be destroyed." Melo said coldly, "At least before that, I won't be meaningless anymore."
He gritted his teeth and looked at You Xuan.
"How could someone like you understand?"
"You, with your extraordinary talent, are naturally born to be a king. You are destined to have a life admired by all. How could someone like you understand the pain of a loser?"
You Xuan looked at him, still expressionless.
"Whether you believe it or not, I understand," You Xuan said indifferently, "I've never considered myself to be particularly special either."
These were his genuine thoughts.
In his past life, he had always been ordinary, with a life devoid of any excitement or brilliance. He was like the most nameless NPC in everyone's life, with no particular talents.
Even in the one thing he was relatively good at, Yu-Gi-Oh!, he could only be described as a mediocre enthusiast. He enjoyed researching the history of the Yu-Gi-Oh! environment, studying old decks and unconventional tricks, sometimes making videos and uploading them online to earn a few clicks. But he considered himself an average player at best, never achieving convincing results in competitions.
However, he felt incredibly lucky.
Because he had been given a second chance, in a place where his strengths could be useful.
But he didn't think he was special. He believed that many pro players who reached his position could have done better.
You Xuan took away Melo's deck and turned to walk towards the door, making a gesture without looking back.
"Take care of it."
Lava God took the command, and the flames all over his body became more intense. A "City-Within Flame" directly filled the entire iron cage.
"No—"
Melo screamed in despair, but the erupting flames swept out of the cage amidst the impact. The struggling Light of Annihilation finally vanished completely in the flames, dissipating into thin air.
