Chapter 805: Lanchi's Empire, Part 2
Chapter 805: Lanchi's Empire, Part 2
Under the dancing phosphorescent starlight, this shadow world critical space woven by countless stars had only one striking color—a deep crimson radiance.
"Black Sun Tyrant's Eternal Punishment Edict..."
Talia marveled at this sealing technique, distinct from the Undead's Eternal Punishment and the Conglomerate Edict.
It was as if all of Black Sun Tyrant's life's understanding of sealing techniques, having reached the pinnacle and infused with the legendary hues of his lifetime, had given birth to this spell.
"Is this card powerful?"
Cat Boss was also knowledgeable in this regard.
It had never encountered such an invulnerable red card before.
"Now Lanchi truly has the soul of a mage."
Talia commented.
A noble spell with no cooldown could be used as an additional standard attack.
Even if he only knew this one move, he could keep using it repeatedly like a true mage.
This sealing technique dealt no damage, but as long as there was enough mana, one could seize the opportunity to repeatedly cast Stage Healing Prohibition on a blood race enemy with super-regenerative abilities, to the point of rendering them incapable of fighting.
Correspondingly, it could also seal blood for oneself or one's teammates.
"I finally have a magic card of my own."
Lanchi put away this red legendary card.
He had thought that in this lifetime, he would never possess an orange epic-grade noble magic card.
Unlike Lorren and Ivanos, the magic geniuses, Lanchi had not learned any spells to date, though he hadn't dedicated much time to it. Instead, he had devoted himself to his business endeavors.
His fundamental path to strength still leaned towards that of a Demon Craftsman, and his spellcasting depended on magic cards. The most noble epic-grade spell cards were something he had never even dreamed of obtaining in his entire life.
The blood race inherently possessed authority comparable to epic-grade spells, and the demon race could attain them by discovering their innate magical talents. For human archmages throughout history, however, creating a single epic-grade spell in a lifetime was already pushing the limits, and such spells couldn't be passed down.
Black Sun Tyrant's Undead Eternal Punishment and Conglomerate Edict were likely learned from ancient magic tomes, and he acquired Brilliance Sun Halo only after undergoing demon enhancement surgery and passing the Great Demon Trial. Everlasting Destruction was the only epic spell that Black Sun Tyrant had truly comprehended himself.
Therefore, in Lanchi's view, spell cards that granted instant mastery over epic-level spells were the purest and most potent type of magic card.
This was also why Lanchi taught his disciple Zestila about spell cards in the Northern Continent. They were the noblest of the three types of magic cards, and in the Infinite Library, they were given top priority.
"You indeed had little chance of obtaining an orange epic spell card, but you have plenty of red legendary spell cards."
Talia spoke as she listened to Lanchi's heart's journey.
Lanchi's body, starting from a low tier, had been occupied by many epic cards, leaving him with limited flexibility. After ascending to the seventh tier and binding this Black Sun Tyrant's Eternal Punishment Edict, he had even less room for new cards; there was basically no need to consider binding any additional epic cards.
"Meow?"
Cat Boss thought carefully. It seemed like after acquiring this spell, Lanchi finally had a long-term survival spell that he had lacked before.
Always on as long as it's not turned off?
"Then what use am I?"
Cat Boss suddenly realized that giving Lanchi five extra lives seemed utterly meaningless.
Lanchi could directly activate continuous immunity.
In the Shadow World, when Lanchi used his face to block Lord Melog's blasphemous demonic light, he no longer needed Cat Boss's Dawn Storm. He only needed to cast Black Sun Tyrant's Eternal Punishment Edict on himself, fully embodying the style of Saint Pope Lanter.
"You're useful. No matter what, you're still an adorable little cat."
Lanchi had given up on explaining to Cat Boss the correct meaning of the term "old soul."
As long as Cat Boss remained a cat, it would be irreplaceable.
Who wouldn't want a little black furball at home?
"Meow, that's great."
Cat Boss was relieved.
As the one and only cat, its position was secure for the foreseeable future.
"Black Sun Tyrant probably desired a sealing technique like this to protect his friends."
Talia murmured, recalling the effect of Black Sun Tyrant's final act.
However, in his brief lifetime, he could only master Undead Eternal Punishment and couldn't further refine it into a freely castable version.
In the end, Black Sun Tyrant, to complete his final mission, used the unperfected Undead Eternal Punishment on himself, forcing his dying body to remain in this world.
Consequently, he became a ghost that couldn't dissipate after death, eternally suffering the punishment of immortality.
Perhaps the price he paid was even greater than what Lanchi had endured, and he might even lose his memory.
Perhaps what followed was one year, ten thousand years, or a hundred million years.
He would wander alone and confused in the world.
If no one could ever see him, no one could ever save him.
"Fortunately, many years later, Tamisha appeared."
Lanchi spoke to Talia.
"... "
Talia raised her head from her daze and looked at Lanchi.
"Master, you don't need to understand the heart of the Black Sun Tyrant. Even if the wounds from the Tebiri Mirror still pain you and your thirst remains unquenched, let the wind carry those burdens away."
Lanchi said with a smile in his emerald eyes, without looking back.
According to their fragmented dreams, in the new era after the end of the Blood Moon Bad World, Tamisha might no longer recognize the ruined wraith in the principal's office as the phantom demon who had saved her a century ago.
But the blessing left by Kaliella on both of them would eventually guide them to meet once more.
That would be a tale for another era.
"Yes."
Talia nodded slightly.
She raised her hand and looked at the matching Tianmu Jinbee bracelets on her and Lanchi's wrists, adorned with the gems they had requested from the Fate Goddess Church in Flower Capital.
"Perhaps one day, they will dream of the past once more."
"But dreams are merely illusions."
"Let her be the first to forget."
The Blood Moon Calamity had finally come to a close.
"Oh, right, Meow. What was the other gift?"
Cat Boss turned his attention to another orb of light not far from Lanchi. Its surface shimmered with a mix of sea blue and orange, resembling the deep sea's ripples and reminding Cat Boss of the boundless blue sea surrounding Necaris Island.
Faintly, a whisper seemed to linger, like a song carried by the waves under the clear skies of the Demon Realm.
"Let me see."
As Lanchi reached for the orb, the light dimmed and gradually dispersed, leaving a letter in his hand. He stared at the envelope, its deep blue ripples appearing especially captivating beneath the pure starlight of the liminal space.
Suddenly, a pale blue aura rose from the letter, swirling in the air to form words in the Demon Tribe's language.
"——To the Nameless Noble"
"My friend, I hope this letter finds you in good health."
"The season of dancing snowflakes is upon us. I hope you are keeping warm in the cold."
"You may feel lonelier and colder than ever, so please take care."
Lanchi paused after reading these words and closed the letter. He didn't continue.
[Kaliella's Handwritten Letter]
Category: Artifact
Grade: Epic
Rank: 1
Anyone who reads this letter will experience a slight boost in spirit magic and resistance to illusions, feeling Kaliella's comforting presence.
Note: Fear not the darkness, my child of light. The dawn may be slow, but it will come, and not long after you whisper my name.
"A letter from Kaliella..."
Talia remembered the significance of this letter.
Lanchi, too, knew the remaining contents by heart, having read it together with Rankulos in the Throne Room of the Helshire Papal Palace.
"Are you still regretting it?"
Seeing Lanchi's silence, Talia softened her tone.
She sensed that he wasn't unwilling to open the letter but afraid to read it again. Perhaps he could now accept Rankulos' Black Sun Tyrant ending with a calm mind after experiencing everything firsthand. But when it came to Kaliella's sacrifice, he couldn't let go, nor could he feign forgetfulness.
"Yes," Lanchi admitted.
"I also feel sad for Kaliella. Her emotions were snuffed out before they could even fully blossom." Talia expressed her lingering attachment as well. She gazed at the letter. "Perhaps Kaliella was destined to be a falling paradise. 'Reality' and 'her companionship' could never coexist."
Talia shook her head, filled with regret.
"Yeah, who could blame her for being so perfect? It's understandable that there aren't any like her in the real world." Lanchi sighed, his words laced with humor.
He appreciated Talia's attempt at comfort. Life's impermanence had taught him that some things were beyond his control, and he had learned to accept them. Love was a mysterious force. The more one tried to grasp it, the more it eluded them, but the more one understood letting go, the fuller one's heart became.
And Kaliella, perhaps more than anyone, understood the meaning of falling and fulfillment. Her letter was meant to convey to Rankulos that love wasn't something he needed to pursue but something he already possessed. Even if his dear friends and partners had passed on, they would remain by his side in another form until he ended the Blood Moon Calamity.
"Mm-hm!"
Talia moved closer to Lanchi, seeking his attention. The way she puffed out her chest seemed to be inviting his gaze.
"What are you doing, Master?" Lanchi looked at her, confused.
"A perfect woman," Talia boasted, poking her own cheeks playfully.
With her beauty and newfound usefulness, she resembled Kaliella, didn't she?
"Pfft!" Lanchi couldn't contain his laughter.
Despite understanding Talia's intent to comfort him, he found the situation hilarious.
"Lanchi, you said I was useful! You really said that!" Talia argued, unwilling to let it go.
She had meant to cheer him up, but now she was annoyed.
"Master, regardless, you did make me laugh in the end, so thank you." Lanchi couldn't stop laughing as he expressed his gratitude.
This old lady had her adorable moments.
"How dare you call me an old lady!" Talia exclaimed in mock shock.
When did Lanchi become so bold?
"I'm not overstepping," Lanchi quickly clarified.
In fact, he had been calling her that since their time in South Ventina, but she hadn't realized it then, so it wasn't a recent development.
"You! You little..." Talia's face flushed with anger.
"Master, control yourself! Whatever happened to your dignity and maturity?" Lanchi gestured for Talia to stop as he began to back away.
"I'll get you first... I tolerated you for an entire shadow world, and now I'm letting loose!" Talia took menacing steps forward, chasing Lanchi to give him a piece of her mind.
"Cat Boss, help!" The two of them ran circles around the cat, stirring up gusts of wind that left Cat Boss flustered and worried that he would be dragged into their chaotic game.
"You two, stop causing a ruckus, meow!" Cat Boss noticed that whenever Lanchi felt down, Talia had a talent for lifting his spirits.
Despite the occasional hiccups along the way, they had undoubtedly become each other's source of happiness.
A few seconds later, Talia finally achieved her goal of pinning Lanchi to the ground. She sat on his stomach contentedly, looking down at him.
"Hmph, I've caught you six times now. I could draw a tic-tac-toe on you."
Talia teased Lanchi, recounting her victories.
"Master, are you a little she-devil?!" Lanchi asked in shock.
After playing the role of Lanfu in the Shadow World, even Talia's manner of speaking had changed slightly, reflecting the character. It seemed that playing multiple roles had caused a bit of mental bleed, and she hadn't quite left the character behind yet.
"I'm warning you, if you dare to think of any numbers related to my weight, I will truly write on your face and leave you with a humiliating memory," Talia said, leaning forward slightly and looking down at Lanchi with a gentle yet dominant gaze.
Lanchi remained silent and shook his head. He found it torturous to hold back the number from escaping his lips.
Only then did Talia let go of Lanchi and stand up.
Lanchi held onto the letter from Caliera and sat on the ground, examining it once more. "Is there any other mystery to this letter?"
Talia had also sensed the magic emanating from Caliera's letter earlier.
"It's probably similar to the last material, 'Caliera's Shadow Weave Record,' containing fragments of Caliera's memories," Lanchi whispered, his eyes downcast.
If triggered by Talia's magic, 'Overflowing Gentle Hometown,' which shared the same source as Caliera's magic, it might be possible to evoke an illusion filled with Caliera's recollections.
"I'll give it a try," Talia said.
"Talia, wait, Caliera's magic is full of unknown variables," Lanchi advised.
They needed to return to the present-day Kreise Empire as soon as possible. If they delved into the memories left in Caliera's handwritten letter here and now, they might end up trapped in this critical space for a long time.
Just like the last time they used Caliera's Shadow Weave recording card in the Flower Capital of Pariah, they both fell into a deep slumber due to Caliera's ninth-order magic and took a long time to wake up.
Talia hesitated. Although she was curious about Caliera's memories, now was definitely not the time to take a nap.
Moreover, she wanted to watch it attentively, without any distractions.
"Let's wait until we've finished our business in the Kreise Empire. We can go back to the Flower Capital of Pariah or return to Boss Cat's restaurant in Icerite to watch it together," Lanchi suggested, extending an invitation to Talia.
"Then it's settled. We'll watch it together when we get back. Promise." Talia hesitated, then extended her pinky finger to Lanchi, just like Tamisha had done before.
It felt like a private movie experience. Watching it with Lanchi didn't sound too bad. It could be a nice weekend plan.
"No problem," Lanchi agreed, hooking his pinky finger with hers.
"Let's go home," he said, releasing Talia's fingertip. "We still need to heal Miss Ifatia."
He stretched his arms lazily, as if waking up and embracing a new day, and walked towards the Void Gate. He was ready to face off against Violet, the Sixth Army God of Water Jade, at the Saint Kreise Monastery.
Only by doing so could he obtain Violet's Wolf Witch blood, remove the Blood King's divine fire from Ifatia, and add a quasi-bishop-level demon to their Blood Moon City assault force. Additionally, as the Empire's Grand Priestess of the Moon Temple, Violet had access to the royal palace for various royal matters, and she might provide information about the current situation of the Third Princess, Alexia.
"Thank you..." Talia's gratitude towards Lanchi for fulfilling her wishes was evident.
Although it couldn't be rushed and might not be effective immediately, she was eager to heal her sister and have her live with them. That way, they wouldn't need to communicate through magical means every day, and she could take care of her sister and cook for her in person.
There were plenty of vacant rooms in Lanchi's large residence at the Saint Kreise Monastery, so accommodating Ifatia in a guest room wouldn't be an issue.
"It's a small matter. What's important is that you both live peacefully and healthily," Lanchi said, not objecting to the idea of letting Ifatia stay with them.
His home now resembled a branch of Boss Cat's restaurant, essentially serving as an apartment or dormitory. In the future, the most suitable places for a base would be the second floor of Abigail's Bliarda Opera House and his own residence at the Saint Kreise Monastery, as well as Professor Landel's home.
However, Lanchi was still trying to get Ifatia to change the way she addressed him, as being called 'brother' by her constantly was a little awkward for him.
After a brief chat in the critical space, the trio, consisting of a human, a demon, and a cat, arrived at the Void Gate that led back to the present world.
"Lanchi, thank you," Talia said, looking up at him sincerely. Her emotions were genuine, and she meant every word.
If she could live with her sister every day, life in Bliarda might even surpass Icerite. Since coming to the Kreise Empire, there had been occasional thrills and exciting moments, but most of the time, they lived peacefully. With Lanchi working outside, she enjoyed a comfortable and relaxed life.
"There's no need to be so formal between us," Lanchi smiled at Talia. "It's time to begin the second half of our journey in the Kreise Empire."
Chatting and laughing, they walked forward, bidding farewell to this long journey through the ancient times of ten thousand years ago.
Regardless, life at the Bliarda Saint Kreise Monastery was about to begin again!
