Chapter 804: The Assault Plan (First Update)
Chapter 804: The Assault Plan (First Update)
"Commissioner Gordon!"
Hearing the sudden voice from behind, Gordon quickly turned around, only to see Batman standing there in his pitch-black bat suit.
"You still appear and disappear without a trace."
Seeing Batman, Gordon felt a slight relief.
Ever since Batman appeared, the situation in Gotham City had indeed changed for the better. At least many of the gangs had become more restrained, and he could now seek Batman's help when encountering difficulties.
"I know why you’re looking for me. I’ve been investigating, and I just got some leads."
Bruce spoke through a voice changer.
Gordon could only have one reason for seeking him out, and it was definitely about the crazed killing Tabbycat. He had been looking for that cat all week.
At first, the drones could still capture some footage, but in the past couple of days, even the drones couldn’t find any trace of the cat.
Fortunately, with Alfred's help, they managed to locate the cat's hideout through other channels last night.
Gordon had initially planned to go there himself, but on the way, he saw the Bat-Signal light up. After some thought, he decided to inform Gordon and discuss a coordinated plan, which would be safer.
After all, this wasn’t an ordinary cat, but one that could use magic.
"Do you know who the Shadow Knight is?"
Gordon's eyes lit up at Batman’s words, inwardly sighing that Batman was indeed reliable.
"Shadow Knight?"
Bruce was momentarily taken aback.
Gordon quickly explained:
"It’s the person who has been killing many criminals this week. Since we don’t know if it’s a man or a woman and have no information about them, everyone has been calling them the Shadow Knight."
"Maybe you should call it the Cat Knight!"
Bruce couldn't help but smirk.
Gordon, now puzzled, asked:
"Why call it the Cat Knight? Could it be the same person as Catwoman?"
A thought struck Gordon, and he felt he might have found the answer. The timing of the killings coincided with Catwoman's appearances, and he had always suspected there might be a connection.
However, Bruce firmly shook his head:
"No, because it’s actually a cat—a talking, flying, magic-using Tabbycat!"
Gordon: "??????"
If the person in front of him weren’t Batman, he would have kicked him off the police station rooftop.
Are you kidding me? You’re telling me that the killer they’ve been unable to find, even for a glimpse, is a cat that can talk, fly, and use magic? This isn’t a kids’ cartoon.
If Bruce had said it was a mechanical or mutated cat controlled by someone to commit murders, Gordon might have found it slightly more plausible.
Seeing Gordon’s skepticism, Bruce didn’t waste words. He pulled out a small playback device from his utility belt and played the video of his first encounter with the cat and the subsequent drone footage of the cat's killings.
Of course, the scenes where he was turned into a cat and the embarrassing aftermath had been completely deleted.
As Gordon watched the footage, his mouth gradually opened wider, his expression one of disbelief.
He hadn’t expected Batman to be serious, and the killer was indeed such an absurd cat.
After watching the video, Gordon took a while to recover before looking up at Batman and asking:
"Do you know where it is now?"
"It's probably killing somewhere in the city right now. I can't pinpoint its location, but I know where it returns after its nightly killings."
Bruce put away his player.
"Where?"
Gordon stepped forward urgently.
Bruce slowly replied:
"The Gotham Royal Hotel!"
He couldn't lock onto the cat's location anymore, even with hundreds of Drones patrolling the city, but Alfred found the cat on a list of passengers who arrived a week ago.
A week ago, a flight from Salt Lake City to Gotham City carried a woman named Fibers Preece, who brought a Tabbycat with her.
By reviewing the airport surveillance, the Tabbycat Fibers Preece brought matched the one Bruce had seen, even down to the bell on its chest.
They also discovered through Salt Lake City news that a major thief had been active there recently, similar to the recent Catwoman.
So, he now had reason to suspect that the woman named Fibers Preece was the recent Catwoman, and the cat she owned was the killer cat.
The only uncertainty was whether Catwoman was commanding the cat to kill, or if the cat had taken control of Catwoman.
After hearing Bruce's explanation, Gordon stroked his chin thoughtfully and asked:
"What do you think we should do now? Should we go in and arrest her, or try to meet and talk first?"
In Gordon's mind, he didn't have much animosity toward the cat that had killed so many criminals. The cat had done what he wished he could but couldn't and shouldn't do, and it had truly terrified all the criminals in Gotham, which was something he wanted to see.
However, as a police officer, he knew the cat's actions were wrong. If someone with power could kill those they deemed worthy of death, the world would descend into chaos.
This was different from Batman. Batman didn't kill; while his methods were sometimes controversial, they could still be considered acts of justice, albeit in a peculiar costume.
"My suggestion is to control them first, then communicate slowly."
Bruce was well aware of the cat's strength. If they didn't control and limit its abilities first, a failed negotiation would leave them no match for the cat. He didn't want to become a cat again.
"Alright, what's your plan? I'll bring my team to support you."
Gordon trusted Batman, so he let Batman formulate the plan while he and his officers provided support.
Batman nodded.
"With your support, our chances will be much higher. Here's the plan: we do this, then this, and finally this."
At four o'clock the next morning, Jerry finished his night's hunt and used an Apparition to return to the hotel.
His strength had recovered significantly, though he still couldn't use Apparition across countries. However, within Gotham City, it was effortless.
This was why Bruce's Drones hadn't been able to capture images of Jerry over the past few days.
He no longer needed to use a Flying Spell to move around. Often, he would Apparition directly to a target, use a set of Magic to finish the job, and then Apparition away.
"Batman, you never cease to amaze me. I didn't think you could find me this way."
As soon as he returned to the hotel room, Jerry, whose mental energy had largely recovered, sensed the police lying in wait outside and Batman perched on the rooftop.
