Chapter 804: Confirming the Existence of a God
Chapter 804: Confirming the Existence of a God
Butterfly Ninja clenched her small fists, her body trembling as she struggled to control her emotions.
But at that moment, Shinazuki took a soft breath, slowly closed her eyes, and when she opened them again, she had returned to her usual gentle and calm self.
"Ninja, if he is the god who created this world, we should not resent him. Instead, we should be grateful and respectful."
"..."
Butterfly Ninja turned to look at her sister, biting her lip.
Shinazuki smiled gently and said, "Because the god created the world, we exist. No matter what we have experienced, we cannot blame the god. On the contrary, we should feel fortunate to have met him."
Hearing her sister's words, Butterfly Ninja's emotions gradually calmed down.
Yes.
A god would not deliberately design all the trials they had faced. The source of their sadness and pain could only be attributed to Kibutsuji Muzan.
On the contrary, if a god created the world, their existence in it should inspire reverence for that god.
Furthermore, upon closer reflection, Fengye had taken away the little girl but had given them a chance to change their fate in return, leaving behind a strand of hair.
This was even more fortunate.
They should be grateful for this.
Having realized this, Butterfly Ninja slowly unclenched her fists and bowed deeply toward the empty space.
"I am truly sorry."
"If you are watching from somewhere, I hope you will forgive my rash words and actions."
Far away.
Fengye watched everything, observing Butterfly Ninja's emotions shift from resentment to anger, and then to a hint of regret and self-blame. A slight smile appeared on his face.
Many people are like this; they tend to seek someone or something to blame for their suffering, often pointing fingers at the heavens or the gods.
In her moment of emotional outburst, Butterfly Ninja had also attributed the pain she endured to the god.
However, she quickly regained her composure.
After all, she was the future pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, a beautiful and 'gentle' exceptional swordswoman.
Fengye averted his gaze, turning his attention to Shinazuki Scarlet sitting beside him. He observed her condition while contemplating his next move, continuing with his experiment.
...
Several days later.
Demon Slayer Corps Headquarters.
In a spacious room, the master of the Demon Slayer Corps, Ubuyashiki Kagaya, knelt in the foremost position.
On either side were cushions, some empty and others occupied by quiet figures, including Makomo and Shinazuki, among other pillars.
After a moment,
Two more pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps arrived fashionably late.
One of them was the newly appointed Flame Hashira, Rengoku Kyojuro, who had achieved this rank a month ago by slaying the Lower Three of the Twelve Kizuki. His achievement, coupled with his past accomplishments, strength, and his family's legacy as successive Flame Hashiras, finally solidified his position.
"Lord Ubuyashiki."
Rengoku Kyojuro entered the room and respectfully greeted Ubuyashiki Kagaya.
Ubuyashiki Kagaya regarded him with a gentle expression and waved his hand, signaling, "No formalities are necessary. Please take your seat."
Nearly half a year had passed.
The pillars of the Demon Slayer Corps gathered once more.
Once all the pillars were seated, Ubuyashiki Kagaya calmly scanned the room and closed his eyes briefly before reopening them. "The reason I have called you here is to discuss potential adjustments to our strategies against the demons. But before we delve into that, there is another matter I must address."
All the pillars turned their attention to him.
The Pillar Assembly was not only for deliberating future strategies against the demons and formulating the subsequent year's tactical plans but also for conveying significant developments. However, such major incidents rarely occurred.
The fact that a notification was given before the meeting clearly indicated the gravity of the matter.
Thus, all eyes were on Ubuyashiki Kagaya, except for Shinazuki, who seemed distracted.
His words hung in the air, leaving the room in silence.
Almost all the Pillars were stunned, their faces reflecting each other's bewilderment, with some even exchanging glances, seeing the same confusion in each other's eyes.
God.
A word that felt incredibly distant.
The Pillars present had all struggled through pain and hardship, and while some among them believed in the existence of a god, like the Stone Pillar, Gyomei Himejima, the concept of 'god' to them was merely that—a concept.
To put it simply, it was a matter of faith.
It was something to pin their hopes and wishes upon, but never had they imagined that a god could be a tangible, physical entity.
Yet, Ubuyashiki Kagaya claimed to have confirmed the existence of such a being.
And so, regardless of their beliefs, they were all bewildered.
"A god... truly exists?"
"I see."
Flame Pillar, Rengoku Kyojuro, folded his arms across his chest and, after a moment of silent contemplation with his eyes closed, nodded. He then reopened his eyes and directed his gaze at Ubuyashiki Kagaya, asking, "Then, is this god on our side?"
Rengoku Kyojuro easily accepted the existence of a god and immediately cut to the heart of his concern.
Ubuyashiki Kagaya looked at him and replied, "From what we know so far, this god does not seem to be taking sides. However, they appear to be benevolent towards us."
If the god were on humanity's side, with the power displayed in Kanae's report, they could have wiped demons from existence with a mere wave of their hand. Yet, Fengye had not done so, indicating that he was not aligned with humans.
Similarly, he had not taken the side of the demons either.
The only information they had was that Kanae had made contact with Fengye and obtained a strand of hair from him—a hair that contained power beyond imagination, suggesting that it belonged to a god.
And from this, they could at least infer that Fengye was benevolent towards them.
"I see," Rengoku Kyojuro nodded. "Although it's a bit disappointing, given how things have turned out, it does seem that a god has never interfered in the affairs of the world."
His words once again left the room in silence, the atmosphere turning somewhat eerie.
Clearly, not everyone was as quick to accept the existence of a god as Rengoku Kyojuro had been.
"Hey, hey... are you joking?"
Sound Pillar, Tengen Uzui, leaned forward, his brows furrowed and veins popping on his forehead, his eyes reflecting anger and disbelief. "What do you mean a god exists, and that they haven't interfered in the world's affairs? Isn't it precisely because of a god that we have this cruel world...?"
His voice trailed off as a hand was placed on his shoulder.
It was Stone Pillar, Gyomei Himejima.
"Tengen Uzui, that's enough. Do not continue to blaspheme against the god."
Gyomei removed his hand and brought it together with the other in a prayer-like gesture. "Whatever the god does, they do so for a reason. We are alive because of their benevolence. Do not blame them for your pain."
"Gyomei..."
Tengen turned to him, his emotions still turbulent.
Gyomei met his gaze, his expression stern as he said, "Who is it that has caused us all this pain? Sound Pillar!"
Upon hearing these words, Tengen's eyes widened in realization.
Then, clenching his fists, he spat out a name, his voice filled with hatred.
"Kibutsuji Muzan!"
Seeing this, Gyomei's expression softened, and he sat back, his posture relaxed once more.
He brought his hands together and bowed his head slightly, whispering a prayer. "Please forgive his earlier outburst and transgressions."
