Chapter 803: Flywheel Pirate Crew
Chapter 803: Flywheel Pirate Crew
“Kuro?!”
Smoker shot to his feet, shocked. “How did you get here so fast?”
“Of course I flew here at full speed. It’s not like this place is far from G-3,” Kuro replied casually.
Zatanosen Island wasn’t exactly remote, but calling it “close” would be a stretch either.
That Kuro arrived this quickly… his speed was absurd.
“Hey, you—”
The first mate’s startled voice caught Kuro’s attention.
“Oh right.”
He raised Autumn Water, slashing sideways.
Whoosh!
A roaring gust swept across the entire ship.
“Lion Bite.”
Hiss!
Pirates aboard the ship who hadn’t reacted yet—and even those ashore unloading cargo—were suddenly riddled with a dense network of wounds. They collapsed in unison, blood quickly staining the deck crimson.
“What are you doing, Kuro?!” Smoker frowned. “How are we supposed to get to the Grand Fair now?”
“You’re thinking too small.”
Kuro rolled his eyes. “When you’re undercover, you don’t play halfhearted games. If you don’t want Admiral Festa catching on, just eliminate everyone—no one will leak information. The goal is the invitation and the Log Pose. Whether you’re pirate or not is irrelevant.”
Clang.
He sheathed Autumn Water, exhaling smoke. “From now on, I’m the captain of this pirate crew. You’re the vice-captain.”
“Become pirates ourselves?!” Smoker gasped. “A new pirate crew with no bounty? They’ll suspect us immediately at the Grand Fair.”
“Use that brain of yours. What are we?” Kuro tapped his temple.
“The Navy.”
“What’s the Navy’s job?”
“To catch pirates.”
“So who determines a pirate’s bounty?”
“The… Navy?”
“Stop ending everything with a question! Obviously, we’re the idiots who evaluate bounties! The Navy decides everything!”
Kuro shifted his cigar from the left to the right corner of his mouth. “If you want a bounty, just get them to fabricate one.”
This audacious logic stunned Smoker speechless for a moment.
Tashigi hesitantly raised her hand. “But won’t people recognize us?”
“Recognize what? Watch.”
Kuro ran a hand through his hair, transforming his neat middle-parted strands into a slicked-back style resembling a Navy officer’s. His entire aura shifted.
If he’d previously exuded a lazy, scholarly demeanor, he now radiated authority and pride. Tilting his head up, his eyes—sharp and brimming with disdainful pride—made his transformation complete. His presence was utterly changed.
“Change your appearance. Take photos from different angles. If it’s just an image, who’s to say? The Grand Line’s massive. People with similar faces aren’t rare.”
Kuro declared firmly, “I once met a pirate named ‘Three Tongues’ at Shabondy who looked exactly like Luffy.”
“Exactly?!” Klah pressed his lips together, biting back sarcasm.
“Is this really viable?” Smoker’s eyes flickered. Clearly, he was wavering.
“Of course. We’re infiltrating anyway. Another bounty’s just extra insurance.”
Kuro added, “Besides, not many have seen our faces firsthand.”
As Navy officers, their fame paled compared to notorious pirates whose wanted posters circulated globally. Their recognition was limited to regional fame—most of the world only knew their codenames.
Older vice admirals like Kuro might have concerns—after all, decades of chasing pirates left many witnesses. But Smoker, being young, remained relatively unknown.
As for Kuro himself…
Pirates who’d faced him rarely lived to talk. Among pirates in the Grand Line, only the Four Emperors and the Seven Warlords recognized him.
“But we’re understaffed,” Smoker glanced around. “You killed too many. We should’ve captured them.”
Smoker preferred the Doves’ approach—capturing pirates rather than killing unless absolutely necessary. Kuro’s methods leaned toward the Hawks’ ruthlessness.
“Different strokes. I work my way. Don’t overcomplicate it. Need subordinates? Just pull a squad from the Navy. Request support from the nearby base. Three or four hundred men should suffice. We’ll use this ship as our pirate vessel.”
Kuro pointed at the flag. “Remove the Navy emblem. Redesign the banner. Klah, contact Headquarters. Have them arrange a nearby photographer. Send the photos. I want our wanted posters by tomorrow.”
“This’ll be fun!”
Lida grinned. “Hey Kuro, what’s our pirate crew’s name?”
Klah smirked. Of the five present, he and Lida had once been pirates themselves—this role suited them.
“The name? Whatever. It’s temporary. Pick something yourselves.”
Kuro stepped off the ship. “I’m heading to a hot spring. Handle the rest. Call me when the photographer arrives.”
“Got it!” Lida beamed. “I’ll pick a cool name!”
Smoker rubbed his forehead. “I give up. Do as you please. Kuro, order me a drink while you’re soaking.”
He followed Kuro ashore.
“You’re buying, no objections!” Kuro’s voice echoed from afar.
Watching the two depart, Lida chirped excitedly, “Hehe! Being pirates again with Kuro… What should we name ourselves? ‘Sky Pirates’?”
“Too obvious,” Klah adjusted his glasses. “Everyone’ll know it’s Mr. Kuro. Why not reuse my old crew name—‘Black Cat Pirates’?”
“Lame,” Lida wrinkled his nose. “How about ‘White Demon Pirates’?”
“Um…” Tashigi raised her hand. “What about ‘Famous Blade Pirates’? Kuro collects a lot of swords.”
“Hm.” Lida stroked his smooth chin. “Not bad. Kuro does have a hoard of blades.”
“Oh! Does Vice Admiral Kuro really have many swords?” Tashigi brightened.
“Plenty! Last time at Gran Tesoro, he met someone with a ton of swords… so he took them all.”
Lida shook his head. “Still not iconic enough. Let’s go with… ‘Flywheel Pirates’! Kuro hates ship rudders and pirates. Combining both hates—maybe it’ll flip into something lucky! Negative plus negative equals positive, right? Done!”
“…Lidamiss,” Klah’s eye twitched. “That name’s asking for trouble.”
That’s the kind of name only you’d dare suggest.
“Final decision! Let’s paint the Jolly Roger!” Lida rolled up his sleeves, grinning.
