Chapter 802: That Grand Gesture of Yours—I Simply Cannot Accept It
Chapter 802: That Grand Gesture of Yours—I Simply Cannot Accept It
“Huh? What did you say?”
On the ship’s deck, Captain Louis Xiv, dressed in nobility attire, turned toward Tashigi. “You just said there wouldn’t be a storm, right? Kitsuda.”
“My calculations were wrong. There actually is one,” Tashigi replied.
“Seriously?”
Louis Xiv raised a skeptical brow, glancing at his subordinates who were busy loading cargo.
This area couldn’t be raided—the nearby Marine base made it too risky. If they attacked, the Navy would surely notice, so they’d chosen to buy supplies instead.
Originally, they’d planned to head to the World Expo after restocking—something that occurred only once every few years. Louis Xiv refused to miss it.
“First Mate, what do you think?”
He turned to the man in first mate attire beside him.
The first mate frowned. “That doesn’t sound right. According to the weather patterns, there shouldn’t be a storm for the next couple days. We should be able to make it.”
After all, this ship had more than one navigator.
Tashigi shook her head. “This is the New World. The weather here is different. My navigation skills come from Skypiea Visaria’s techniques—they never fail.”
She nearly slipped and said “Navy.”
“Visaria?!”
The first mate’s eyes widened. “You mean that island renowned for climate research? So you studied there? In that case, we should trust your judgment.”
“Exactly,” Tashigi nodded.
“Truly, there’s a storm coming?”
Louis Xiv stroked his chin, gazing at the sky. Sighing, he said, “Too bad. We’ll have to wait here. What a shame—this place can’t be looted.”
The first mate’s eyes suddenly lit up. “Captain, even if Zatanosen Island is off-limits, nearby islands aren’t. If we act swiftly, we can raid them before the Navy reacts. This’ll keep the crew’s morale high.”
“Great idea. Let’s start with them,” Louis Xiv grinned, nodding.
“No!”
“Hmm?”
Both turned to Tashigi, who stood with a furrowed brow. “Why not this time?” Louis Xiv asked.
“Because… no! It’s against Justice!” Tashigi declared.
“Justice?”
The two men stared, stunned.
Tashigi’s face flushed as she hesitated, then blurted, “Even pirates believe in Justice!”
“Hahaha, Kitsuda, you’re adorable,” Louis Xiv chuckled. “No wonder you and Gamos are so powerful yet unknown. Never raided anyone before? A dreamer? Well, let’s give you your first taste. You’ll get hooked!”
Turning to his first mate, he ordered, “Gather my men at top speed. We depart for the nearby island.”
“Understood, Captain.” The first mate saluted.
Louis Xiv turned to Tashigi. “Where’s Gamos? Bring him too. It’s time for his first plunder. No more moping in the cabin.”
Tashigi stepped back, pressed her lips together, and sprinted toward the cabin.
The moment she entered, she shouted, “Smoker Vice Admiral!”
“I told you not to call me that!”
“Bad news! They’re planning to raid another island!”
“What?!”
Smoker shot to his feet, scowling. “Raid? Didn’t I tell you to stop them?”
“They won’t listen!”
“Unforgivable!” Smoker clenched his cigar. “I’ll stop them—no matter the consequences.”
With that, he stormed out of the cabin.
“Oh? Mr. Gamos, I heard Kitsuda say you’ve never plundered before. As a pirate, you’re not a real pirate without plunder. It’s a rite of passage.”
Seeing Smoker’s urgency, Louis Xiv smiled. “Don’t take it so hard. I used to be a king, and kings naturally resist plunder. But we’re pirates—people fear pirates. If you don’t act, someone else will. Better to embrace this infamous charge. You don’t have a Bounty yet, do you? This is your chance to earn one. At the World Expo, a Bounty will make you stand out.”
“That place is a pirate hub. A Bounty boosts your status. Every recent Supernova strongman in the New World will be there. A Bounty’s a good thing.”
A Bounty?
Smoker’s expression darkened. If his face ever appeared on a Bounty poster, his superiors would be humiliated. Headquarters had reluctantly approved his undercover mission. If he caused a scandal, even if they hushed it up, he’d become a laughingstock.
The G-5 Base Commander committing pirate crimes? Unthinkable! Even watching was unacceptable!
“What if I refuse?” Smoker exhaled smoke slowly. “Not only refuse, but force you to stay here.”
“Hmm?”
Louis Xiv’s brow furrowed. “Gamos-san, while you’re skilled, on my ship, you follow my commands. Disobedience is too late now. I value your talent—don’t make me punish you. Obey, or…”
He cleared his throat, commanding, “Command—kneel!”
A tremendous force slammed Smoker, his knees buckling as an invisible power crushed him to the ground.
“You… a Devil Fruit user,” Smoker gasped, eyes widening.
“Just like this,” Louis Xiv said proudly, lifting his head. “I ate the ‘Command Command Fruit.’ My words hold the same authority as a king’s decree in his kingdom—they must be obeyed.”
“Command—confess! Tell me why you refuse to plunder!”
“I…” Smoker’s mouth opened involuntarily, struggling against the compulsion. “Because I’m…”
“Because he’s Navy, you idiot!”
A voice boomed from the sky.
Before Louis Xiv could look up, a gust slammed down, sending him into a dizzying spiral. The deck rushed toward his vision—
Had he collapsed?
Before he could process, a soft thud sounded—a familiar headless body.
His body.
Kuro stood on the deck, Autumn Water sword in hand, sneering at the severed head. “A user of a language-type Devil Fruit? Let’s remove this threat first.”
He turned to Smoker still kneeling, cigar clenched between his teeth. “That grand gesture of yours—I simply cannot accept it, Smoker.”
