Chapter 801: Maiden Nation and the Seventeen Guilds
Chapter 801: Maiden Nation and the Seventeen Guilds
Your father? The former king?!
Upon hearing the spotted prince's response, the Logan Shaman, who was in charge of receiving the guests, was taken aback and almost popped his eyes out.
I was told the old king was bedridden and couldn't make it. His name wasn't even on the list I received! How did he manage to rush here while sick?
If the old king suddenly shows up, it's not a big deal to not have the proper welcoming ceremony, but if he were to, by some misfortune, pass away here and accompany the Great Wizard King in death, that would be a huge problem!!!
"Is His Majesty King Westeros also here?"
Glancing back at the embarkation tower, and not seeing the "gravely ill old king," the Logan Shaman couldn't help but turn to the spotted prince, his eyes filled with tension, and asked:
"May I inquire about His Majesty King Westeros' health? Does he need... No! Please wait a moment, I'll go find a witch doctor immediately!"
"That's not necessary."
After stopping the flustered Logan Shaman, Lyon glanced at Joshua, who was already dozing off in the carriage, and explained with a strained expression:
"His Majesty King Westeros didn't come. Joshua was calling for me just now."
So he didn't come!
Hearing Lyon's first sentence, the tense Logan Shaman suddenly relaxed, relieved that if the old king had indeed died on his way here, it wouldn't be his responsibility...
Wait a minute!
After replaying the scene in his mind several times to confirm he heard correctly, the Logan Shaman's face, painted with black and green, began to twitch uncontrollably. He then asked in confusion:
"Prince Joshua... just now, you were calling for him? He... he called you father?!?!"
"Mhm."
"..."
What the hell do you mean by 'mhm'? Is this something that can be acknowledged with just a 'mhm'?
After seeing Lyon nod in agreement to this title and noticing Joshua's dejected expression, Logan, who had become a great shaman at the young age of thirty-five, felt like his head had been struck by a totem pole, his thoughts overwhelmed by the sheer magnitude of the information.
You... he... you married his sister, but he calls you father? Is your kingdom's seniority system different from all the others, allowing you to casually acknowledge him as your son? Also, isn't this Joshua prince hostile towards your kingdom?
When we were coming here, the President specifically instructed me to sound out Prince Joshua's attitude towards you and Queen Veronica. He wanted to know if Joshua, who has connections with our Shaman Society, has any intentions of rebelling against you and the queen.
So, I specifically asked you separately if Prince Joshua was with you, but you two... this is more than just being together! He has even acknowledged you as his father!!!
"Alright, let's get to business!"
Due to the restrictions of the 'Bedtime Story,' Lyon couldn't explain how his and Joshua's relationship would destroy their public image. He maintained his persona as the Evil Lionheart Prince and impatiently urged:
"Can you afford to waste my time like this?"
"I... I'm sorry, I'm just a little shocked. Please follow me, the sleigh to the Inner Courtyard is ready."
After being scolded by Lyon, the shocked Logan Shaman quickly regained his composure. He led the way, limping slightly, towards a massive moose sled waiting by the roadside. Lyon, accompanied by a timid maid, a dozing guard, and his arrogant son, boarded the enormous sled, which was wider than an eight-horse carriage.
Once Lyon's group was seated, the Logan Shaman, with a complex expression, lifted the wooden whistle hanging from his chest and blew it twice towards the two towering moose at the front of the sled.
"Toot! Toot!"
"Puff! Puff!"
As the Logan Shaman blew the whistle, a high-pitched, clear sound echoed alongside the deep, muffled snorts of the moose. The bright red sled, wider than an eight-horse carriage, rose from the street, pulled by the nearly three-meter-tall moose.
"Oh!"
The maid, startled by the sled's unexpected flight, exclaimed and quickly grabbed the handle beside her seat.
Immediately after, the massive sled rose swiftly, passing through the low-hanging clouds above the Enchantment City and arriving at a strange location filled with flying objects.
Tall winged horses, giant leaves capable of carrying several adults, colorful magic carpets woven from straw, and hollow wooden pillars adorned with oil paint and carvings...
All sorts of bizarre flying props, buoyed by some mysterious force, floated effortlessly above the clouds, each heading towards different destinations in peculiar ways.
"How... how are these people flying? Do they all have Anomalies?"
"Hmph, it's just flying. Once I find that witch who wrote me the letter and take over the Maiden Nation, I'll bring all these back with me!"
After reluctantly uttering a declaration befitting his character, the evil Prince Leon grumpily explained to his maid:
"Although the Maiden Nation is called the Maiden Nation, there are actually very few maidens within. It's mostly dominated by the High Sorceress lineage, with various societies gathering there. It's the only one of the Twelve Kingdoms that doesn't quite belong to the 'ordinary people'."
"Societies?"
"Those who don't rely on Anomalies for sudden mutations but have mastered some mysterious powers on their own, gathering and establishing secret organizations over long periods of time."
After briefly explaining the meaning of societies, Leon turned to look behind him, where another sled had caught up, and pointed at the Logian Shaman sitting on it.
"For example, the Logian Shaman who came to pick us up is a high-ranking member of the Shaman Society. There are seventeen major societies in the Maiden Nation, and the Joint Council formed by the presidents of these seventeen societies is the highest authority in the Maiden Nation."
So that's how it is...
After hearing the explanation from "Senior Leon," the maid couldn't help but exclaim in surprise. The sleepy guard, awakened by the commotion, also showed a rare moment of curiosity, leaning out the window to ask:
"Pr... Prince, how many societies are there in the Maiden Nation?"
"Why do you have so many questions?"
After grumpily scolding the guard according to his character, the evil prince scowled and said:
"Based on my research before coming here, there are about thirty or so societies in the Maiden Nation. When you add up the strange and secretive underground societies, the total number is estimated to exceed a hundred, and the total number of people possessing mysterious powers is uncountable.
However, even witches, fate readers, curse binders, pact makers, and numerologists... their powers are very weak. Only those few..."
"Hold on tight!"
In the midst of Leon's warning, something went wrong. The sled, which had been moving steadily, suddenly tilted to the left, and an angry female voice immediately came from the left.
"Hey! Watch where you're going!"
Leon steadied himself and turned to look, only to find the straw carpet that had been floating in the distance now leaning against the sled. The reindeer seemed hungry, and was biting and pulling at the straw carpet beneath the woman's buttocks.
Noticing Leon's gaze, the sled driver tensed up and quickly whipped the reindeer, pulling it away from the straw carpet.
The hooded woman on the carpet, having recovered from her anger at her carpet being chewed on, seemed to recognize the sled's distinctive markings and flew away without waiting for the driver to speak.
"My apologies."
After resolving this "traffic accident," the driver apologized nervously:
"That lady slowed down too suddenly, and I couldn't turn in time. I fed it before we left, but I don't know what's wrong with this beast..."
Leon waved his hand impatiently, signaling the driver to be quiet. The evil Prince Leon stared at the woman's retreating figure, his brows furrowed in confusion.
Although the woman had concealed it well, there was a hint of strange joy in her gaze towards him, as if she had discovered some treasure... Could someone be sending her after me?
