Chapter 801: Fury
Chapter 801: Fury
September 25, 2017
In the Imperial Chamber of the Luoyang Imperial Palace, all eyes were fixed on Emperor Ling of Han.
Everyone was stunned by what had just transpired, and they were all left bewildered, especially by Yue Er's sudden disappearance.
After the initial confusion, their gazes turned to Emperor Ling, as he was the only one capable of such an act.
However, Emperor Ling's expression revealed little, making it hard to discern his thoughts.
Just as Yue Er vanished, the Imperial Seal in Emperor Ling's hand did indeed glow briefly, but it was unclear if this was a coincidence.
The Imperial Seal might not be the issue; Yue Er's disappearance was undoubtedly connected to the system, as she had received a system notification right before vanishing.
[Congratulations on activating the Crimson Heaven Sword's mission. In 0.3 seconds, you will be forcibly teleported into a special mission instance!]
This system notification, received just before Yue Er attempted to kill He Jin, clearly indicated the system's forceful interference.
At first glance, the system seemed to be extremely dominant in this matter, erasing any factors that might affect the plot. However, upon closer inspection, it became evident that the system of this game or world was not as powerful as it seemed.
If the system truly had absolute control over this world, it could have effortlessly eliminated this incident in numerous ways. The simplest method would have been to prevent Yue Er from obtaining the Crimson Heaven Sword, as without its power, she would never have reached that point, and the system wouldn't have needed to intervene so forcefully.
This incident revealed at least two conclusions: First, the system couldn't fully control the world and seemed on the verge of collapse, evident from Zhang Jiao's rebellion, the emergence of demonic soldiers, and Yue Er's recent situation.
Secondly, the system seemed to operate under certain rules, as it didn't strike Yue Er with purple lightning as it had done with Zhang Jiao or the demonic soldiers. Instead, it provided a forced mission instance.
This behavior appeared to be a form of compensation for interfering with Yue Er's actions, or perhaps a way to contain her, an Outsider who had obtained something she shouldn't have too early. Overall, the system seemed particularly lenient towards Outsiders.
The truth behind this was uncertain, and even those in Emperor Ling's chamber, including He Jin and He Miao, were unaware of these details.
In Emperor Ling's chamber, everyone, except for He Jin and He Miao, who felt a mix of relief and sorrow, and those grieving for He Miao, who had been taken away by Yue Er, were prostrated on the ground, not daring to breathe. They all knew that Emperor Ling was in a foul mood.
Although the Third Princess had been subdued, Emperor Ling had been humiliated several times in just a few short minutes. No one could predict if he would be so enraged that he would execute them all.
"Your Majesty's divine might! With a wave of your hand, you effortlessly subdued the Third Princess!"
As the atmosphere grew eerie, Zhang Rang immediately flattered without hesitation, speaking the truth. He wasn't sure what had just happened, but praising Emperor Ling in this situation was a safe bet to protect his dignity.
Indeed, as soon as he spoke, Emperor Ling's expression, though still grim, softened slightly.
"The Third Princess has been captured by Me. This matter ends here. Send a decree to Lu Hai Kong, ordering him to return to the capital. I want to question him personally about how he influenced the Third Princess!"
After speaking, Emperor Ling glanced at Empress He and then left without another word.
He hurried away because his body was reaching its limit. Although this kind of outburst required no energy from him, Emperor Ling's health was already fragile, and even a simple burst of power left him exhausted and in need of rest.
Emperor Ling's chamber had been severely damaged and was no longer habitable, but as the emperor, the entire palace was his, so finding another place to rest was not a problem.
As Emperor Ling turned to leave, Zhang Rang cautiously followed, and the events of the day came to a close. However, the aftermath of this incident was just beginning to unfold.
The incident in the palace was too significant for the ministers in Luoyang to remain unaware. Moreover, they weren't the only witnesses; when Yue Er entered Emperor Ling's chamber and briefly fought with him, half of the chamber was destroyed.
The Imperial Guard and the eunuchs and maids in the chamber had witnessed the entire event, and there were numerous explosive revelations. Among these revelations, the ministers of Luoyang were most concerned about one thing: the Crimson Heaven Sword.
In the beginning, the ministers were perplexed as to how Princess San had suddenly become so formidable, single-handedly destroying a general's mansion with her sword and nearly killing the He family trio within the imperial palace. But with the revelation of the Crimson Heaven Sword, everything became clear.
In this world, the Crimson Heaven Sword was not merely a symbolic weapon. It was a genuine divine artifact, possessing immense power, and was considered a symbol of the Great Han Empire's imperial authority, just like the Imperial Seal.
However, unlike the Imperial Seal, the Crimson Heaven Sword had not been seen for centuries. Its sudden reappearance now might hold some special significance.
For many loyal ministers devoted to the Han dynasty, this was a sign of the dynasty's revival. Unfortunately, the Crimson Heaven Sword and Princess San had both disappeared, leaving many to lament their loss.
Not only the ministers but even Emperor Ling himself felt a deep sense of regret.
After Yue Er's disappearance, Emperor Ling retired to his chamber and immediately issued an order to search Yue Er's palace thoroughly, hoping to find clues about the Crimson Heaven Sword. Although they didn't find any leads on the sword, they did discover numerous items sent by Lu Hai Kong.
These included secret manuals, weapons, and various precious gems and treasures, enough to fill several carriages.
Over the years, Lu Hai Kong had sent many valuable items to Emperor Ling, but all the best items were sent to Yue Er. Despite Yue Er having no use for them, she had repeatedly asked Lu Hai Kong to stop sending them. Yet, he remained stubborn, always sending the best items to Yue Er and letting them gather dust rather than giving them to the Emperor.
This directly led to Emperor Ling's complete loss of favor towards Lu Hai Kong when he saw the items in Yue Er's palace.
Emperor Ling had always believed Lu Hai Kong to be a loyal minister, sending the finest items with great enthusiasm. But now, he realized that Lu Hai Kong had been merely placating him with inferior goods while sending the best to Yue Er.
Emperor Ling couldn't bear the thought of Lu Hai Kong's insincerity after he had treated Lu Hai Kong with such sincerity. Adding to his anger was Yue Er's recent incident, which led Emperor Ling, in his rage, to issue an imperial edict annulling the engagement between Lu Hai Kong and Princess San, demanding Lu Hai Kong to come to the capital and apologize with a bundle of reeds on his back.
Meanwhile, at Lu Hai Kong's military camp, Yue Ying was kneeling outside his tent.
She had been kneeling there for over three hours since her return.
Yue Ying had intended to accompany Yue Er into the imperial palace, but unfortunately, two factors prevented her. Firstly, the palace was enveloped by a mysterious force when Emperor Ling, in his fury, held the Imperial Seal, making it inaccessible to Yue Ying due to her ghostly attributes.
Secondly, Yue Er had sent Yue Ying away before entering the palace, and Yue Ying had waited outside the palace until the end, only returning after receiving firsthand information from one of Zhang Rang's subordinates.
After her report, Yue Ying remained kneeling.
Lu Hai Kong, inside the tent, was aware of her kneeling but said nothing, letting her continue.
At this point, Lu Hai Kong was unaware of Yue Er's situation, and even Zhang Rang, who had witnessed it, wasn't entirely sure if Yue Er had been suppressed by Emperor Ling. Her disappearance was just too peculiar.
Concerned about Yue Er's situation, Lu Hai Kong, uncharacteristically, took his frustration out on Yue Ying. Moreover, upon receiving Yue Ying's news, Lu Hai Kong had been busy.
Due to the vast distance between his current location and the rear, at least ten times the area of Bingzhou, which was over ten thousand miles away, long-range communication tools were useless. Lu Hai Kong had no choice but to write letters.
During Yue Ying's three-hour-long kneeling, Lu Hai Kong wrote two letters, one to Xi Zhi Cai and another to Xun You.
The length of time spent writing these letters was due to their detailed content and Lu Hai Kong's need to maintain his composure while writing, resulting in a slightly slower writing pace.
"Alright, stop kneeling and come in."
After Yue Ying had knelt outside the tent for three hours, Lu Hai Kong's voice suddenly sounded from within.
Yue Ying immediately stood up, lifted the tent flap, and entered.
Inside, Lu Hai Kong sat majestically, showing no signs of his severe injuries. Yue Ying seemed to have known about his condition beforehand and displayed no surprise. She quietly stood before him...
