Chapter 800: Ron Gets Involved
Chapter 800: Ron Gets Involved
"Kyle, if we ever believe you again, we'll be as good as dead..."
"You're as good as dead as a Flobberworm!"
At the dining table, Fred and George's eyes were almost shooting flames at Kyle.
They regretted their decision, wondering why they had ever believed Kyle's words.
The previous night, Kyle had used the Hufflepuff Cup as a bargaining chip, convincing them to rejoin the Ministry of Magic. Unable to resist the temptation, they had agreed.
After all, it was an item left behind by the Hogwarts Four, and no one interested in alchemy could refuse such an offer.
Although they didn't particularly enjoy working at the Ministry, Kyle had assured them that the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures and the Muggle Liaison Committee were different. He had said there would be plenty of people and it wouldn't be too busy.
So, gritting their teeth, they decided to lower their standards slightly.
However, to their surprise, upon arriving at the Ministry, they discovered that things were not as Kyle had described.
Indeed, the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures had a significant number of staff, but there were also numerous departments—Beasts, Beings, Spirits, Fairies, Centaurs, Werewolves, and House-Elves, to name a few. Essentially, any non-human entity fell under their jurisdiction, resulting in over a dozen offices of varying sizes.
With such a distribution, each office could only accommodate a couple of people, not much different from Hermione's situation.
In fact, they had returned half an hour later than Hermione today.
If it weren't for the Hufflepuff Cup, they would have hung Kyle from the roof.
"What's wrong with you two?" Mrs. Weasley asked as she carried a freshly baked loaf of bread from the kitchen.
"Nothing much, Mrs. Weasley," Kyle replied. "I just found them a new job, dealing with some Death Eater-related troubles."
"Is it dangerous?" Mrs. Weasley inquired.
"Not at all," Kyle shook his head. "It's safe. I don't have to face Death Eaters, and I won't be stuck in the Ministry or in high-profile places like Diagon Alley. All I need to do is move around and interact with these creatures."
"Isn't that great?"
"But they don't seem to like it," Kyle shrugged.
"You still have complaints," Mrs. Weasley turned to Fred and George, her voice carrying a hint of frustration. "You should share the responsibility instead of thinking about magic tricks all day."
"Mom, we..."
"Things aren't as Kyle described!"
The two brothers wanted to explain, but for a moment, they couldn't find the right words. Indeed, they didn't have to stay in the Ministry all day, as they didn't have the time. They had to work outside and only returned in the evening.
As for the creatures they had to deal with, who had three heads and seven legs? Were they even creatures? They were monsters!
Seeing that they couldn't articulate their thoughts, Mrs. Weasley grew angrier.
"Even Hermione knows it's time to help out. Why are you so unwilling? Don't even think about slacking off. If I find out you give up halfway, I'll pull your ears off."
Mrs. Weasley's threat left Fred and George speechless. They sat there, heads lowered, occasionally lifting their eyelids to glare at Kyle with menacing eyes.
But did Kyle care? Not in the slightest.
After all, Fred and George weren't serpents, and their glares couldn't kill him.
"Oh, and Kyle," Mrs. Weasley suddenly turned back to him, "If it's not dangerous, can you get Ron involved? As a grown wizard, he can't continue being this lazy."
"Today, everyone's busy, and he's been playing Wizard's Chess all day."
At the dining table, Ron, who was enjoying his late-night snack, suddenly froze, unsure why Mrs. Weasley had brought him into this conversation.
"Sure, of course. I'll think about it..."
Before Ron could react, Kyle laughed and said, "Let me see... How about this? Since Ron is a bit young, he can skip the outdoor work. I'll arrange an office job for him, right in my office."
"Of course, if he prefers, he can work in Arthur's office, but it might be a bit troublesome. You know, I've resigned, so my influence isn't as strong. But I'm sure he'll be fine. He's never worked in the Ministry before."
"No problem. He'll manage," Kyle waved his hand. "It's just filing and organizing documents, gathering information. He'll get the hang of it quickly."
"That's great," Mrs. Weasley said.
Only then did Ron realize that his vacation plans had been decided for him while he was having dinner? Thinking of Hermione's recent listlessness and Fred and George's complaints, Ron's heart was filled with reluctance.
He didn't want to work at the Ministry. He wanted to stay home, chat with Harry, and pass the time playing Wizard's Chess.
"Mom, I'm not going to the Ministry of Magic," Ron immediately spoke up. "I need to keep Harry company. He's too lonely on his own."
"He's not lonely," Mrs. Weasley said without turning around. "Besides, Ginny and Kyle are also at home."
Ron's expression froze, and he turned to look at Harry.
But Harry just kept his head down, chewing on his bread, not responding to Ron's plea.
From Kyle's perspective, Harry's behavior seemed to be a bit of a telltale sign, as if he wasn't completely against the decision or didn't necessarily need Ron's company.
Kyle was certain that the reason wasn't himself, as there wasn't much they could talk about... unless Harry wanted to learn the art of Occlumency again.
"I, I still have homework to do," Ron thought of another excuse without Harry's support. "Right, I haven't finished my homework yet. If I go to the Ministry, I won't have time to work on it."
"It's been so long since the holidays, and you still haven't done your homework?" Mrs. Weasley looked at Ron in disbelief. "Then why were you playing with the Wizard's Chess earlier?"
"I... I plan to do it tomorrow," Ron stammered. "I'll definitely work on it tomorrow."
"No need for excuses. You're going to the Ministry," Mrs. Weasley said firmly, as if she had made up her mind about something.
"Don't make excuses. I know very well that you won't remember your homework until the start of school. Since that's the case, you might as well do something more meaningful."
"There are only three days left until school starts. That should be enough time for you to catch up on your homework."
"But..."
"It's settled."
Before Ron could say anything else, Mrs. Weasley made her decision. "You're going to the Ministry with us tomorrow. Fred, George, keep an eye on him."
"Okay, Mom!"
"No problem."
"Leave it to us!"
Fred and George, who had been sulking, suddenly broke into smiles.
Although tedious work was unpleasant, if their younger brother was involved, it would be fun.
After a day's work, they were well aware of the challenges at the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The more tasks they had, the more tedious the office work would become. Ron's remaining holidays would certainly be fulfilling.
Just thinking about it made them smile with relief.
This was all for Ron's sake.
...
After the late-night snack, the self-aware Kyle hurried back to his room before Mrs. Weasley left the dining room. He quickly stood up and returned to his room with swift steps.
Then, he took out his wand and cast the Seismic Shield and Soundproof Charms on the door, one after the other, before nodding in satisfaction and sitting down at the desk.
Currently, Fred and George had other work to do, so they probably didn't have time to continue researching suitable communication devices for Aurors. Therefore, this task fell on Kyle's shoulders.
Fortunately, it wasn't a troublesome matter.
Fred was right; there was nothing completely safe in the Wizarding World. Traitors, Legilimency, Polyjuice Potion... all of these could turn security measures into a joke.
So, it was best to focus on concealment. Once the direction was clear, the rest would be much simpler.
Kyle took out a button and began engraving magical runes on it.
At the same time, several people outside were continuously knocking on his door, and the force of their knocks was increasing.
The oak door echoed with loud bangs, as if someone was playing with Exploding Snap cards in the corridor, but the room remained silent without a sound.
"This won't work."
Fred rubbed his sore palms. "That bastard must have used magic on the door. Our efforts are useless."
"What should we do then? Just give up?" George asked reluctantly.
Then, he took out his wand and aimed it at the door lock.
"Alohomora!"
There was no response.
This work is organized and uploaded by Liuxiu Book Bar~~
Of course, this was also an expected outcome. If Kyle could think of them knocking on the door, he would have anticipated them using magic to silence the sound, so it was only natural that he would think of unlocking charms as well.
"Give up? How is that possible!" Fred knocked on the door again and said angrily, "This time, he's just lucky. But the room is only so big. He can't hide from us forever. One day, we'll catch him."
"You're right." George nodded.
"So, what should we do now?" Ron asked from the side.
He had followed Fred and George over because, in a sense, it was Kyle who had suggested that he go to the Ministry.
"What else can we do? Go back to sleep!" Fred said irritably. "We have to wake up early tomorrow to go to work at the Ministry."
"I advise you to get up early and make time for breakfast."
"If you skip this step, you'll definitely regret it."
After saying this, the two of them headed towards their rooms, leaving behind a lonely silhouette.
"What do they mean by that?" Ron asked in a trembling voice.
To be honest, he had been regretting it since the beginning. He shouldn't have gone for a late-night snack. If he hadn't shown up in the dining room, Mrs. Weasley might not have thought of him, and he wouldn't have to go to the Ministry.
"I don't know either," Harry said, accompanying them.
"Why didn't you help me just now?" Ron complained. "If you insisted on having me stay with you, maybe Mom wouldn't have let me go to the Ministry of Magic."
"I didn't notice," Harry's eyes flickered, "and to be honest, I'm not that fragile. I don't always need someone to be with me."
"Besides, I'd rather switch with you. I'm willing to do something, even if I'm so busy that I don't have time to eat. As long as I don't have to stay here all the time."
"Everyone won't agree," Hermione said seriously as she came upstairs. "Your safety is more important than anything right now."
"I know, but I feel like everyone's a bit too tense."
"No, it's necessary," Hermione said, then turned to Ron,
"Harry's right. He doesn't need anyone to stay with him, and besides, you can't stay at Hogwarts forever."
"I know," Ron muttered. "That's why I want to relax for another year."
"Ha," Hermione laughed, not arguing with him further. "What they said just now was right. You should get some good sleep. If you miss breakfast tomorrow, you'll definitely regret it."
After that, Hermione yawned and returned to her room.
"Why do they all say that?" Ron sighed. "But I'm not sleepy at all right now."
After they left as well, the corridor fell silent again.
However, Kyle wasn't aware of what was happening outside. The magic he had set up in advance was effective, and not a sound from outside penetrated.
As for Fred and George's plan to catch Kyle later, it didn't succeed either.
They were out early and back late every day, and the timing was too well-managed. As long as Kyle returned to his room before ten o'clock, he could successfully avoid them.
Until mid-August, they could only meet during breakfast.
On the 25th, Kyle went to the Ministry of Magic again, but this time, instead of continuing to have Fox take him, he left Grimmauld Place No. 12 with several members of the Weasley family. It was also his first time going out in half a month.
This was an experiment. He couldn't always stay here hiding from Voldemort; he had to go out at some point.
The streets were bustling, with Muggles chatting and laughing as they walked, showing no signs of tension.
Mr. Weasley was driving a car on the road.
"If you ask me, it's better to stay a little longer," he said nervously. "At least wait until Hogwarts starts."
"It's fine. If the Dark Lord is determined to deal with me, it's the same no matter when." Kyle said.
There were only the two of them here. Fred and the others wanted to come along too, as they usually went to the Ministry of Magic together.
But for safety reasons, Mr. Weasley insisted that they accompany Lucius and Tonks to work.
"I heard that there hasn't been any news from the Death Eaters recently?" Kyle asked.
"You could say there's less news, not none at all. It's not as frequent as before," Mr. Weasley said. "After that incident in Godric's Valley, they must have suffered heavy losses and needed to recuperate."
"Maybe it's just that the Dark Lord needs to rest," Kyle said softly. "He doesn't care about the life and death of the Death Eaters."
"But with so few people, it's not convenient for him to do many things either," the car turned a corner at the intersection. "But this is a good thing. Hogwarts is about to start soon. After sending the students to school, we can focus more on dealing with them."
"You're right."
The car sped along the road, arriving at the Ministry of Magic earlier than usual.
Fortunately, the journey was safe, and they didn't encounter a single Death Eater.
"Don't be complacent. What's coming next is the most troublesome," Mr. Weasley said as he walked into the Ministry of Magic's hall with Kyle. "Although I don't know who it is, there must be a Death Eater's spy within the Ministry of Magic, and there won't be just one of them."
"I know."
As the two approached the magic fountain, Kyle also noticed that more and more eyes were focusing on him.
But this didn't mean anything. He had worked here before, and when people saw a familiar face, it was normal to take a look or say hello.
Moreover, if it was just a glance, Kyle couldn't tell who had other intentions.
"Where are you going?" Mr. Weasley asked as they stepped into the elevator.
"I'm going to deliver this box," Kyle said, taking out a box. "It's something I promised Minister Bones half a month ago, and I finally managed to make it today."
"I know. It's a communication device for the Aurors, right?" Mr. Weasley said. "The communication parchment you provided has already been put to use in the Ministry."
"I have to say, it's much more convenient. At least when riding the elevator, you don't have to worry about a paper airplane suddenly appearing in your hair."
"The parchment is just a prototype," Kyle laughed. "I plan to improve it further and make it look like a telephone."
"That's great!"
Mr. Weasley's eyes seemed to turn into a bright lamp.
