Chapter 80: We Still Don't Know Where the Mysterious Figure Was Hiding That Day
Chapter 80: We Still Don’t Know Where the Mysterious Figure Was Hiding That Day
Hermione and Ron were even more worried. Seeing the scene, they thought Ivan and Harry had already made the ultimate sacrifice.
After all, such a battle was far beyond what two first-year Young Wizards could handle.
"Ivan, Harry!" Hermione's sharp eyes caught sight of the two lying on the ground, their fates unknown, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Don’t worry, they’re fine. Harry has some minor injuries, and Ivan just fainted from magical exhaustion", Dumbledore approached and examined them, then reassured them.
The events of today were indeed unexpected. Dumbledore never thought Voldemort would sneak in while the Ministry of Magic was conducting an inspection.
It wasn’t until the small magic he placed on the Philosopher’s Stone was triggered that he learned a battle had erupted. Unfortunately, Fudge was still at Hogwarts at that time, so Dumbledore had to spend some time persuading the power-hungry fool to leave quickly.
Walking to the Mirror of Erised, Dumbledore looked at the tattered wizard robes lying on the ground and gently lifted them with his wand. The remaining ashes at the bottom gradually dissipated in the wind.
"Professor, where’s Quirrell?" Ron looked around the room but saw no sign of the enemy and asked.
"Didn’t you just see him?" Dumbledore gave Ron a sidelong glance.
Ron thought of the ashes and shuddered, unable to imagine what kind of magic could cause such a terrifying result.
Dumbledore, however, knew this was the effect of the protective charm within Harry, just as he had expected. But the battle process was more intense than he had anticipated.
Surveying the thoroughly destroyed scene, Dumbledore was taken aback by the intensity of the battle.
Just as Dumbledore was about to put down the wizard robes, he caught a faint scent. He leaned in and sniffed the robes, and his usually calm face suddenly showed a mix of emotions.
Where had Voldemort been hiding all this time?
Why did the clothes smell like feces?
Dumbledore pondered, no wonder he couldn’t find him.
Hermione had already rushed to Ivan’s side. Although Dumbledore had assured her that Ivan and Harry were not in danger, she still couldn’t help but feel worried.
Noticing Ivan’s pale face and the bruises from falling debris, Hermione felt a deep sense of regret. If she had been faster, maybe she could have done more.
In fact, Hermione didn’t know that if she hadn’t been dragging Dumbledore by the sleeve, he could have moved much faster.
"Alright, let’s head back. We need to get them to Madam Pomfrey as soon as possible", Dumbledore waved his wand and used the Levitation Charm to lift Ivan and Harry.
In the Hospital Wing at Hogwarts,
Ivan opened his eyes wearily, staring at the white ceiling. The white bedsheet covering him felt familiar, almost making him think he had traveled back in time.
But the ancient decor and the peculiar scents of various magical potions reminded him that he was in the Hospital Wing at Hogwarts.
Clutching his throbbing head, he sat up, feeling as if he were waking up after a night of heavy drinking. Ivan decided that no matter what, he would never again deplete his magic completely; the experience was too unbearable.
Looking around, he saw a table piled high with gifts, mostly candies and small trinkets, as well as several cards with heartfelt messages.
There was no sign of Harry on the neighboring bed; he must have been discharged before Ivan woke up.
"So, how long have I been asleep?" Ivan felt his stomach was completely empty. If a whole Roast Lamb were placed in front of him, he would surely devour it all.
"Wait, where’s my Philosopher’s Stone?" Ivan searched his entire body but couldn’t find it, his face falling.
Dumbledore must have taken the Philosopher’s Stone he had struggled to obtain while he was unconscious.
This made Ivan worry if his mission was considered complete. He hurriedly opened the System’s task list to check.
He remembered that he should have taken the head.
Task: Vengeance Promised
Objective: Kill Quirrell (Completed)
Description: Your trustworthy behavior has earned Cecilia's favor and trust. Although you did not witness your enemy’s death firsthand, which is somewhat regrettable, she is still willing to fight for you—if you know how to summon her.
Task: Steal the Philosopher’s Stone
Objective: Hold out for five minutes or kill Quirrell (Completed)
Reward: Relevant Alchemy knowledge (Unclaimed)
Description: Apart from those shoddy obstacles, you managed to turn the tide in the final asymmetric battle through luck and shameless tactics. Although the process is not commendable, it was still an epic victory!
Seeing that both tasks were completed, Ivan sighed in relief. It seemed that losing the Philosopher’s Stone wouldn’t affect the outcome of his mission.
However, the description of the task to steal the Philosopher’s Stone left Ivan rather depressed.
What did it mean by relying on luck and shameless tactics?
That was clearly a result of wisdom and courage!
Ivan looked at the task description with dissatisfaction. If he hadn’t used various tactics to enrage Voldemort, causing Voldemort to lose his composure during the battle, he would have certainly died in the final Magic Power showdown.
Claim reward.
Ivan muttered in his mind, and the next moment, a flood of knowledge surged into his head. After sorting through it for a while, Ivan realized that the relevant knowledge from the task reward referred to the method of creating the Philosopher’s Stone.
It seemed that the task of holding out for five minutes might not only be related to Dumbledore’s support but also to the time needed for the System to analyze the Philosopher’s Stone.
However, receiving this reward left Ivan unsure whether he should feel happy or depressed.
On one hand, the Philosopher’s Stone, known as the legendary Philosopher’s Stone, had at least two terrifying abilities: creating the Elixir of Life and Philosopher's Transmutation. Possessing it was equivalent to having infinite life and wealth.
On the other hand, from the information in his head, to create the Philosopher’s Stone, he would need various precious materials, and his Alchemy skills would have to be at least level seven.
Currently, Ivan glanced at the System’s magic knowledge section and saw that his Alchemy was only at level two. Given that each level-up required double the proficiency, reaching level seven would be an incredibly long process, not something that could be achieved in a short time.
And the Magic Item Crafting skill had disappeared from the System list. Ivan guessed it might have been merged into Alchemy, as making magical items is a significant branch of Alchemy.
But how exactly does one improve proficiency in Alchemy?
