Chapter 80: The Battle Alongside the Ship
Chapter 80: The Battle Alongside the Ship
"Engine Brake!"
Renitia's hands spark with electricity as she forcefully slams her hands onto the deck, causing the Death Omen to surge forward and directly ram into one of the three naval ships, crushing its bow and sending wood splinters and metal shards flying.
While it is possible to dodge the cannon fire from the naval ships and approach them under normal sailing conditions, having the capability to do so faster is advantageous.
Boom!!
Before the three naval ships could adjust their angles, the oversized Death Omen collides with the front end of one of the ships, creating a dent and sending debris flying.
The materials used for the Death Omen are, of course, superior to that of the standard naval ship, ensuring that the impact causes no damage to their vessel.
Renitia extends her tool hammer into a halberd and leaps down from the front of the deck, sweeping it horizontally at the group of navy sailors.
Boom! Driven by the power of the engine, the hammer's head releases a burst of energy as it sweeps across, sending the front row of sailors flying into the sea.
Landing on the deck, Renitia bares her tiny fangs. "Blow them out of the water!"
Excluding those unfortunate crew members knocked unconscious by Sag, the remaining five hundred pirates draw their weapons and jump towards the naval ship.
The naval ships belong to the Navy Headquarters, but they are not large vessels. They are the signature cruise ships of the Grand Line, typically staffed with over three hundred personnel. With three ships, there should be about a thousand sailors—five hundred against a thousand.
"The advantage is ours," Sag says as he steps out of the captain's room with a wine glass in hand. He walks to the front of the deck and sits on the edge, overlooking the battle below.
From this angle, he can't see much, so he decides to come out for a better view.
"The Starry Sky Pirate Flag! A black ship! It's the Disaster Pirate Crew!"
"It's the Disaster Crew!!"
The navy sailors also spot Sag above and raise their long flintlock rifles, ready to pull the trigger.
Clang! Puff!
Just then, the first row of flintlock rifles is cut, and a cold light flashes by, slicing through a sailor's chest and spraying blood.
Lily appears at the navy's side, her feet touching the ground for only a moment before she disappears again. Her White Lightning is like a bolt of thunder, slashing through the chests of another row of sailors and spraying blood.
The five hundred pirates engage in close-quarters combat with the navy sailors, who are gradually gathering on the ship. The clash of blades and the roar of gunfire fill the air as they battle fiercely.
Watching the exchange, Sag tilts his wine glass and takes a sip, a look of surprise on his face. "Oh, they're quite decent. As expected of the Navy Headquarters' sailors."
The slave workers from the Kingdom of Bridges endure the most intense physical labor daily. They haul building materials that exceed their strength, and any misstep results in a beating. The weather on the massive bridges is also bitterly cold.
Those who survive in such harsh conditions and still possess the stamina to jump onto the ship when Sag arrives are undoubtedly tough.
However, they are only holding their own against these sailors.
Sag vaguely recalls that the Navy Headquarters' sailors undergo rigorous basic training. For instance, they are required to perform two thousand push-ups, climb ropes a hundred times back and forth, and run two hundred laps in an hour, pushing their physical endurance to the limit. Only then do they proceed to combat training, which doesn't end until they faint.
The training regime is indeed rigorous.
Each naval ship typically carries over three hundred personnel, and with three ships present, the sailors from the other two vessels also rush over during the boarding battle. Ship sides are pressed together to allow more navy sailors to join the fray.
In terms of numbers, the situation seems unfavorable.
However,
"Is it a bit naive to rely solely on numbers in a battle at sea?" A sly smile plays at the corners of Sag's mouth.
"Open fire!"
A naval officer leads his troops towards the battleground, about to give the order when a black shadow smashes into him.
Boom!!
The impact sends the officer flying into the sailors behind him, and the force of the collision creates a large hole in the deck, through which he falls.
Marika's face softened into a gentle smile, and she threw the other solid bullet in her hand once more. With immense strength, she turned it into a blur as it slammed into the approaching Marine battalion, scattering them in all directions as if she were bowling a perfect strike. Some collided with the deck structures, while others were sent tumbling into the sea.
"Now, now, one at a time, please. It's not fair if there are too many of you," Marika teased, watching the Marines continue their charge. She reached out and embraced the thick mast, and in the span of a single breath, a dull thud reverberated as she yanked the massive mast out by its roots, holding it firmly in her arms.
This spectacle caused the oncoming Marines to freeze in their tracks, their teeth clenched and eyes wide in disbelief.
"That's just not fair!"
Boom!!
The enormous mast was hurled forward like a giant spear, piercing through the Marine battalion and pushing them back. Many were sent flying by the force of the throw.
On the other side, a group of about ten Marines surrounded Ajin, their swords and knives drawn as they lunged and stabbed at him.
"Paper Art," Ajin whispered, and his body became as light as paper, swaying with the force of the incoming blades but avoiding all cuts. His body straightened, and the iron balls at the ends of his crutch spun in a whirlwind, crashing into the heads of his attackers and sending them toppling to the ground.
In the same instant, he lowered his body, resembling a charging cheetah. With each step on the deck, his feet moved several times, increasing his speed. He swiftly reached a group of Marines, and the iron balls attached to his crutch spun in a circular motion, delivering a powerful blow.
Boom!!
The ground cracked open, forming a large dent, and the battalion was sent flying in all directions by the force of the impact.
Bang bang bang! A Marine battalion pulled their triggers, firing at their target, only to hit an iron shield and create sparks.
Palu flicked his hair, which was shaped like a crescent moon on his forehead, and laughed heartily. "Give up! You can't hurt me! I'm a handsome man, an invincible man, the unstoppable Palu!"
"Die!"
Two Marines attacked from behind, their blades slicing into Palu's neck, an area unprotected by his iron shield.
"Iron Block."
Clang!
The blades struck the iron-like flesh, unable to penetrate even slightly.
"Hmph, do you think I only have a shield? My body is also incredibly strong now!" Palu snarled, baring his teeth. He brandished the small round shields on his fists and slammed them into the heads of the two Marines, knocking them unconscious with white eyes and sending them falling to the ground.
"I am the invincible Palu!" he declared.
Spreading his limbs wide, he snapped his fingers, sending a few fireflies flying in all directions and igniting flames on the deck.
"I am also the fiery Palu! How about it? Pretty cool, huh?"
Boom! Renitia's hammer struck the back of his head, forcing his mouth open as he spat out a mouthful of blood. His head slammed into the deck.
"Re... Renitia..."
He struggled to lift his head, looking pitifully at Renitia, who had just attacked him.
"You idiot!" Renitia scolded. "Why are you using fire? What if you burn the ship? We're still on board! Do you want to ruin Sag's robbery plan? Get your head straight, or else dunk it in the seawater and let the parasites bore into your brain! Maybe after they feast on your brain juice, you'll start thinking clearly!"
"S... Smimase!" Palu cried out.
Sag took another sip of wine and turned his attention to a Marine who was fighting off a few pirates and making his way towards them. This Marine wore a cloak of justice, and from his aura, he seemed to hold a position of authority.
Sag glanced at Lily and the other executives and smiled faintly. "Sa, don't disappoint me."
