Chapter 80: Shock and Requests
Seeing Lu Qing behead someone with a single stroke of his sword, Ma Gu and the others couldn't help but gasp in shock.
The sight of corpses littered all around, blood flowing freely, and heads rolling on the ground was horrifying.
"What could have possibly happened here?" Ma Gu wondered aloud, unable to fathom the brutality that had unfolded.
Little Tian, his eyes darting anxiously around, suddenly cried out, "Look over there, Master Ma!"
Following his gaze, Ma Gu spotted a head rolling on the ground, its eyes wide open in terror even in death—a chilling sight.
"Heart-Plucking Wolf... Even he's dead?" Ma Gu's heart skipped a beat as he recognized the owner of the head.
Hearing the exclamation, Lu Qing turned his head, his gaze as cold and emotionless as ice, causing Little Tian and the others to take several steps back in fear.
Even Ma Gu, a strong Jin-Bone Realm cultivator, felt his heart pound, a chill running up his spine, and his body going numb.
"Brother Lu! It's us!" Ma Gu quickly called out, afraid that Lu Qing might slash at them without hesitation.
He had good reason to be fearful; Lu Qing's current appearance was truly terrifying.
The murderous aura emanating from him was like that of a soul-reaping messenger from hell, striking fear into their hearts.
Lu Qing stared at them for a while, his gaze so intense that Little Tian and the others began to tremble. Gradually, the murderous intent in Lu Qing's eyes faded, and he returned to his usual calm demeanor.
He didn't ask Ma Gu and the others why they had come here. Instead, he said, "Now that you're here, it's perfect timing. Brother Ma, there's something I'd like to ask of you."
"What is it, Brother Lu?" Ma Gu asked, relieved to see that Lu Qing's murderous aura had diminished.
Without saying a word, Lu Qing used his sword to pick up a pouch of money from the ground and started walking forward.
Ma Gu was taken aback for a moment before hurrying to catch up, with the others slowly following behind after a brief hesitation.
Lu Qing kept walking straight ahead, and as Little Tian and the rest trailed behind him, they couldn't help but glance at the corpses lying on either side, their hearts filled with dread.
They recognized that most of the corpses were from Happy Fort, but there were also quite a few gamblers and patrons who had come to the fort for entertainment.
What could have possibly driven Lu Qing to unleash such a massacre? Little Tian and the others looked at Lu Qing's back with a mix of awe and fear.
They couldn't believe that the usually polite and courteous Lu Qing had such a ruthless and violent side to him.
Ma Gu, too, was shocked as he surveyed the bodies on the ground.
He could tell that most of them had been slain with a single sword stroke while trying to flee.
Some, however, had clearly been killed while kneeling and begging for mercy.
The fact that even those pleading for their lives hadn't been spared gave a glimpse into the depth of Lu Qing's fury.
Without pausing, Lu Qing made his way straight to a particular house.
Ma Gu's eyes narrowed as he noticed that this house was different from the others in the fort; it was built from stone.
As Lu Qing pushed open the door, Ma Gu's eyes widened again.
With the help of the light from outside, he could see three more corpses inside the house.
However, compared to the gruesome scenes outside, where bodies were often decapitated, the deaths of these three were relatively more dignified.
At the very least, their bodies remained intact.
Ma Gu was puzzled as to why Lu Qing had brought them here. Was there some secret hidden within these three corpses?
Then he noticed that Lu Qing didn't even spare a glance at the three bodies and instead continued further inside, toward a barred door. With a single stroke of his sword, he severed the iron chain securing the door.
Only then did Ma Gu hear faint cries of surprise and realize that there were others hiding in the dimly lit corners.
It wasn't surprising, given the numerous shocks they had encountered since entering the fort.
Chapter: The Massacre
"Otherwise, with his Jin-Bone Realm cultivation, he should have discovered the people inside earlier."
"Master Ma, there are a few poor girls here, and in the wooden tower in the middle of the fort, there are also some unfortunate souls. If possible, I hope you can help take care of them," Lu Qing said.
"As for the expenses..." Lu Qing paused before continuing, "I think there should be quite a bit of silver in this fort, which should be enough to take care of them."
Ma Gu lifted a lantern by the door, stepping into the house. With its light, he finally saw the scene in the dimly lit corner.
Looking at the several emaciated little girls shackled in iron chains, their eyes wide with terror fixed on Lu Qing, he finally understood why Lu Qing had flown into such a rage, unleashing a slaughter.
Even he, upon witnessing this scene, felt his anger welling up inside.
"The Black Wolf Gang has gone too far." Ma Gu's voice was heavy with anger. "Rest assured, Lu Qing, I will find a way to take care of these poor children."
"It's not just these few," Lu Qing shook his head. "There are also some girls in the wooden tower, most of whom were sold to this fort against their will. I hope you can help take care of them too. It doesn't have to be anything grand, just ensure they have food to eat and can survive."
Lu Qing knew that with his capabilities, it would be impossible to take care of these girls by himself.
He also didn't have the energy or time to do so.
Only someone like Ma Gu, with his family's influence and resources, would have the connections and power to help them.
Ma Gu pondered for a moment before finally nodding in agreement. "Don't worry, I'll do my best to make arrangements."
"Thank you."
Pushing open the barred door, Lu Qing stepped inside. In the frightened gazes of the girls, his blades flashed, severing the iron chains binding them without so much as scratching their skin.
This display caused Ma Gu's eyes to twitch.
In such dim lighting, Lu Qing's precision in cutting through the chains without harming the girls was astonishing.
Even he wouldn't dare claim he could easily achieve such a feat.
No wonder Lu Qing was able to single-handedly destroy the entire Happy Fort.
Even the Black Wolf Gang's ninth leader, Heart-Plucking Wolf, had been slain by him.
With such sword mastery, who in the fort could have possibly been his match?
"You girls don't have to worry anymore; the bad people outside have all been killed by me. Soon, you'll be leaving with this uncle, who will take care of you from now on. Rest assured, you won't go hungry again," Lu Qing said to the girls in the corner.
At that moment, Lu Qing paused as he noticed the girl who had been brought in last. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a pouch of money.
"This is the money your father received for selling you. Take it and buy medicine for your mother. As for your father..." Lu Qing paused, "...he's already dead by my hand."
The girl's eyes widened in shock as she stared at Lu Qing, unable to speak.
Unconcerned with her reaction, Lu Qing placed the money in her hands and turned to leave.
Ma Gu followed him out and instructed Little Tian and the others to comfort the girls and clean up the mess.
After they finished, Ma Gu saw Lu Qing walking out of the fort and quickly called out, "Lu Qing, where are you going?"
"I have some matters to ponder over by myself. After a couple of days, I will pay you a visit to express my gratitude, Master Ma," Lu Qing replied.
Hearing this, Ma Gu's steps faltered as he glanced at the corpses strewn around. Ultimately, he decided not to follow Lu Qing any further.
He watched as Lu Qing, his back to him, slowly walked away from the fort, his battle sword slung across his back.
