Chapter 80: Shock and Request
Seeing Lu Qing slash off a man’s head in one clean stroke, then glancing at the surrounding scene—bodies scattered across the ground, blood pooling everywhere, severed heads lying like discarded fruit—Ma Gu and the others couldn’t help but inhale sharply.
They couldn’t fathom what had happened here, nor could they imagine the horror that had unfolded to leave such a gruesome aftermath.
Xiao Tian scanned the area frantically, then suddenly pointed, voice tight with urgency: “Ma Ye, look over there!”
Ma Gu followed his gaze. There, rolling on the dirt, was a severed head. The lifeless eyes were wide open, frozen in terror, the expression still etched with sheer dread—deeply unsettling.
“Zhai Xin Lang… even he’s dead?” Ma Gu’s heart skipped a beat. He recognized the face.
At the sound, Lu Qing turned his head slowly toward them.
That gaze—cold, emotionless, utterly devoid of warmth—sent a wave of icy dread through the group. Xiao Tian and the others stumbled back several steps. Even Ma Gu, a Jin Gu Jing-level cultivator, felt his chest tighten. A chill crept up his spine, his entire body going numb.
“Lu Xiao Brother! It’s us!” Ma Gu forced himself to speak, his voice strained, desperately trying to calm the rising fear. He couldn’t let Lu Qing strike them down without reason.
There was no way around it—Lu Qing looked terrifying. The killing intent radiating from him was like that of a demon risen from the depths of hell, utterly merciless.
Lu Qing stared at them for a long moment, his eyes unblinking, making Xiao Tian and the others tremble in place. Only when the murderous aura began to recede, and his expression softened into cold calm, did he finally speak.
He didn’t ask why they were here.
Instead, he said, “You’ve come. Good. Ma Ye, I have a request.”
“What is it, Lu Xiao Brother?” Ma Gu exhaled slowly, relieved to see the bloodlust fading. He asked cautiously.
Lu Qing said nothing more. He simply lifted a money pouch from the ground with the tip of his blade and began walking forward.
Ma Gu blinked in surprise, then followed. The others hesitated a moment before slowly trailing after.
Lu Qing moved without pause, walking straight ahead. Along the way, Xiao Tian and the others kept glancing at the fallen bodies on either side of the path—each one a grim reminder of the massacre.
They recognized most of the corpses: villagers from Kuai Hua Village. But among them were others—clearly not locals—men who had come here seeking pleasure, gamblers, prostitutes, drawn by the village’s infamous reputation.
What could have driven Lu Qing to unleash such merciless slaughter?
They watched his back with a mix of fear and awe. None of them could reconcile this image with the Lu Qing they knew—polite, kind, always courteous to everyone.
Ma Gu, too, felt a knot tighten in his chest as he studied the bodies.
He could tell most had been cut down while fleeing—slain in mid-stride, their heads severed cleanly. Others had been killed while on their knees, begging for mercy. Even then, no mercy had been shown.
The sheer ruthlessness of it all spoke volumes about the rage that had consumed Lu Qing.
Finally, Lu Qing stopped before a house unlike the others. It stood apart, built not of wood but of stone.
Ma Gu’s eyes narrowed. He could feel the difference in energy—this structure was different, more solid, more deliberate.
Lu Qing pushed the door open. Ma Gu’s gaze snapped to the interior—and his eyelid twitched.
Through the dim light from outside, he saw three more corpses inside.
But unlike the carnage outside, these deaths had been… dignified. At least their bodies remained whole. No heads severed. No limbs torn.
Ma Gu frowned. What was the purpose of bringing them here? Was there some secret in these bodies?
Then he saw Lu Qing walk past them without even glancing at the corpses. He moved deeper into the room, stopped before a barred gate, and with a single, swift slash, severed the iron chain binding it.
A soft gasp escaped Ma Gu. Then came a series of faint, terrified cries.
Only then did he realize—there were more people in the dark corner.
He should’ve sensed them earlier. But the shock of the scene had clouded his perception. He was a Jin Gu Jing cultivator, yet he’d failed to detect them. No wonder he’d been so shaken.
“Ma Ye,” Lu Qing said, voice quiet but clear, “there are several innocent girls trapped here. And in the wooden house at the center of the village, there are more. Most of them were sold here against their will. If you can, I’d ask you to help settle them.”
He paused, then added, “As for the cost… I believe there’s still quite a bit of silver in this place. It should be enough to care for them.”
Ma Gu picked up a lantern from the entrance and stepped inside, the flickering light revealing the horror in the shadows.
There, chained to the wall, were several girls—thin, emaciated, their faces pale with terror, eyes wide with fear as they stared at him.
And then he understood.
Why Lu Qing had gone mad with fury. Why he had wiped out the entire village.
Even Ma Gu, hardened by years of cultivation and battle, felt a surge of rage in his chest.
“The Black Wolf Gang’s cruelty knows no bounds,” Ma Gu said, voice low and grim. “Don’t worry, Lu Xiao Brother. I’ll make sure these children are taken care of.”
“No,” Lu Qing shook his head. “Not just these. There are more girls in the wooden house—many of them forced here. I only ask that you help them survive. Not luxury. Not comfort. Just food. A chance to live.”
Lu Qing knew full well he couldn’t do it alone. He lacked the time, the resources, and the influence. Only someone like Ma Gu—someone with a powerful family and connections—could see them properly settled.
After a long silence, Ma Gu nodded. “I’ll do my best.”
“Thank you.”
Lu Qing pushed open the gate and stepped inside. In the dim light, the girls flinched, terrified. But with a few swift motions, the air shimmered—then a series of sharp flashes.
The chains binding their wrists and ankles fell away, severed cleanly.
Ma Gu’s eyes widened. In such darkness, with no sight of the blade’s path, Lu Qing had cut through the iron without harming a single one of the girls.
That level of control—precision so absolute—was beyond even Ma Gu’s skill.
No wonder Lu Qing had destroyed the entire Kuai Hua Village by himself. No wonder the Nine Deputy Leader of the Black Wolf Gang, Zhai Xin Lang, had fallen to his blade.
In all of Kuai Hua Village, who could stand against him?
“Don’t be afraid,” Lu Qing said softly to the girls. “The evil men outside are all dead. You’ll be safe now. Follow this man—he’ll take care of you. You won’t go hungry again.”
His gaze lingered on the last girl to be brought in.
He paused.
Reaching into his robe, he pulled out a small money pouch.
“This is the money your father sold you for,” he said. “Take it. Buy medicine for your mother. Get her well. As for your father…” He hesitated, then continued, “He’s already dead. I killed him.”
The girl’s eyes widened. She stared at him, frozen, her face blank.
Lu Qing didn’t wait for her reaction. He placed the pouch into her trembling hand and turned away.
Ma Gu followed him out.
He turned to Xiao Tian and the others, giving quick instructions to calm the girls, gather the dead, and clean up the mess.
When all was done, he watched Lu Qing walking slowly toward the edge of the village.
“Lu Xiao Brother,” Ma Gu called after him, “where are you going?”
“I need to be alone for a while,” Lu Qing replied without turning. “I’ll come back in a few days to thank you properly, Ma Ye.”
Ma Gu stopped mid-step.
He looked around at the field of corpses, the blood-soaked ground, the silence that now hung over the village like a shroud.
He said nothing more.
He simply watched as Lu Qing, the War Blade slung over his back, walked away into the darkness.
