Chapter 80: Setting Up
Chapter 80: Setting Up
Li Qian was well-versed in the intricacies of setting up the Frostfire Array and the details to pay attention to.
He had practiced it several times before, all under the guidance of Bull Vigor.
This time, setting it up alone held a different significance, and Li Qian hoped to succeed in one go, which he was confident about.
The first step in setting up an array is to outline the array patterns, which are the foundation of the array. Using the human body as an analogy, they are like meridians.
Li Qian began outlining the array patterns, taking out the jade talismans that had been pre-carved into rectangular shapes. He used a sharp tool to carve intricate designs on them.
The shape he was carving was one of the fifteen array patterns of the Inferno Array, which he had long memorized.
It didn't take long for the energy talismans to be carved. The intricate patterns on them exuded a mysterious aura.
Initially, Li Qian was curious about the origin of these runes.
After Bull Vigor's explanation, he gained a general understanding.
As he expected, these runes indeed originated from the dimensional rift.
Archaeologists had risked their lives to excavate them from ancient ruins within the rift.
By deciphering these runes, they created the earliest arrays.
To this day, this remains the primary source of various array techniques.
Apart from this, another source of arrays is array masters themselves.
Some array masters, by studying existing arrays, can innovate and create new arrays.
The Frostfire Array was created in this manner. Initially, Bull Vigor had to exert considerable effort to learn this array.
With one energy talisman completed, Li Qian used his mental power to communicate with the array patterns within.
As the connection was established, a faint aura appeared on the energy talisman.
This aura was proof that the talisman had met the required standard.
If the array patterns were incorrectly outlined, causing the energy flow to be disrupted, the energy talisman would not emit an aura, or the aura would be dim.
Li Qian was satisfied, nodding in approval, as the first energy talisman was successfully outlined.
After completing the first talisman, he quickly moved on to the second...
In about three hours, he finally finished outlining all thirty energy talismans.
"Phew, only two wasted energy talismans. Not bad at all!" He exhaled a long breath after completing all the talismans.
The two wasted talismans still satisfied him, as this outcome exceeded his expectations, leaving him pleasantly surprised.
After finishing all the talismans, he didn't immediately proceed to the next step but instead paced around, observing the area.
On one hand, he was scouting the area for the formal setup, and on the other, he was taking a break to relax and adjust.
After about ten minutes, when he felt his state was adequately adjusted, Li Qian continued with the setup.
He first selected all fifteen energy talismans and arranged them on the ground following a specific pattern. Then, at seven key nodes, he added fire attribute energy stones.
After completing these steps, he used his mental power to communicate with the array patterns within the talismans, activating the array.
As the array activated, crimson light began to permeate the area, signifying the successful setup of the Inferno Array.
With the Inferno Array in place, at least half of the work was done.
Next, he just had to replicate the process with the Frost Array and then link them together to complete the Frostfire Array.
Things went smoothly, and after another half an hour or so, Li Qian had also set up the Frost Array.
After finishing all this, it was already noon, and Li Qian didn't continue. He made a phone call.
A moment later, An Fatso came trotting over with a smile on his face and food in his hands.
"What's making you so happy?" Li Qian took the food from An Fatso's hands and asked casually.
An Fatso chuckled and replied, "Coalhead is about to evolve, so I'm naturally happy."
Without pausing, he continued, asking with a hint of regret, "By the way, Qianzi, aren't you considering letting Coalhead evolve into a Frostfire Salamander?"
"I don't recommend it." Li Qian shook his head and then explained, "Evolving into a Frostfire Salamander has a fifty percent chance of failure, but evolving into an Azure Scaled Serpent is a sure thing. With Coalhead's talents, there's no need to take the risk."
There were two more reasons Li Qian didn't mention.
First, Coalhead had already completed all the training required for evolution, and his goal was the Azure Scaled Serpent. Changing the evolution path at this point would render the previous training useless.
Second, and most importantly, Coalhead's mental attributes were not as outstanding as Ah Long's.
After Little Six and Ah Long's evolutions, Li Qian had accumulated some experience and could almost confirm this.
The evolution path from a koi to a Frostfire Salamander was indeed influenced by willpower.
The stronger the willpower, the higher the chance of a successful evolution.
Whether it was Little Six or Ah Long, with their willpower, even without Liu Changfeng's soul bond assistance, the success rate was far more than just half.
But with Coalhead, it was hard to say.
Given that the path ahead was clear, there was no need to take this risk.
"Ah, that's a bit of a pity," An Fatso couldn't help but feel regretful after hearing Li Qian's words. He then muttered to himself, "I heard that the Frostfire Salamander has the chance to evolve into the Icefire Dragon, which is a Holy Spirit Level Companion Beast!"
Li Qian smiled and reassured An Fatso, "The evolution method from Frostfire Salamander to Icefire Dragon hasn't been figured out yet."
He wasn't making this up; the entire Beastmaster world currently had no research on the evolution method from Frostfire Salamander to Icefire Dragon.
Even whether the Icefire Dragon truly evolved from the Frostfire Salamander was just a guess in the breeding world.
Currently, human breeders had not witnessed the evolution process; they had only seen some small groups where Icefire Dragons and Frostfire Salamanders lived together.
Moreover, whether it was the Icefire Dragon or the Frostfire Salamander, their attributes were both ice and fire, which was hard to ignore.
Of course, it was also possible that this information had already been confirmed, or even that some breeders had already researched the evolution method but had not yet announced it.
After a pause, following this train of thought, he continued, "Even if a breeder has figured it out, the cost would probably be enough to make people hesitate."
"Most importantly, if the Frostfire Salamander can evolve into the Icefire Dragon, then doesn't the Azure Scaled Serpent have no further evolution? I don't believe that."
"If you still want a Frostfire Salamander, you can reconsider when your strength reaches the Elite Level and you have a second Beastmaster Space." Seeing that An Fatso was still reluctant, Li Qian compromised, "Anyway, whether it's the Azure Scaled Serpent or the Frostfire Salamander, it's not a difficult task for us!"
