Chapter 8: A Crushing Victory
Chapter 8: A Crushing Victory
A towering figure stood before a three-headed wolf guarding a wooden treasure chest.
The Champion-level Sprite wore a sinister grin, unlike the smaller Sprites, this one exuded a fierce and brutal aura, clearly a force to be reckoned with.
The three-headed wolf seemed intimidated at first, but it quickly regained its composure and lunged at the Champion-level Sprite.
But things were different now. The Champion-level Sprite, no longer the easy target he once was, caught the wolf mid-charge and used it as a weapon, sweeping it across the area.
The other two wolves were caught off guard and flew backward.
Crack!
The attribute gap between the wolf and the Champion-level Sprite was too great. The captured wolf’s head was torn off, and its spine ripped out as it was used as a weapon.
The remaining two wolves let out a whimper and turned to flee, their morale shattered.
But the Champion-level Sprite wasn’t about to let them go. He chased after them, grabbing one by the tail and slamming it into the other fleeing wolf.
With a few more swift moves, he crushed their heads underfoot.
[A crushing victory, you have gained 46.5 experience (30 + 15 + 1.5).]
[You have looted the following:]
[Common Resources: 5 units of wood, 5 units of ore, 5 units of grain]
[Special Resource: 1 unit of mercury]
[30 gold coins]
Qin Muye looked at the rewards. Each wolf gave 10 experience points, so three wolves totaled 30 points. With his experience bonus, he gained an additional 16.5 points, which was decent. However, the fractional experience points made him feel that this "Lord Era" was a bit too nitpicky.
The resources were fine, but they weren’t the main focus. The wooden treasure chest was the real prize.
[You have opened the wooden treasure chest.]
[You have obtained:]
[100 gold coins]
[Blueprint: Lumber Mill]
[Basic Treasure: Standard Longsword]
[Special Resource: 5 units of sulfur]
The chest’s contents were satisfactory. Qin Muye didn’t open the chest himself; he had the Champion-level Sprite do it because the Sprite had 1 point of luck, while he had none.
[Lumber Mill Blueprint: After learning, you can build a Lumber Mill. Requirements: 10 units of ore, 50 units of wood]
[Standard Longsword]
[Level: Basic]
[Attributes]
[+2 Attack]
Qin Muye casually handed the Standard Longsword to the Champion-level Sprite, and the Sprite’s attack power increased by 2 points.
The Standard Longsword was nothing special, but the Lumber Mill blueprint was a true surprise. With this building, he might be able to produce wood on his own.
"Let’s keep going. We’ll clear all the monsters today and see if we can find more building blueprints," Qin Muye said as he immediately learned the Lumber Mill blueprint without considering further research.
His current focus didn’t allow for such studies, unless it was a Sprite Workshop blueprint, which he had already used.
However, there was still a chance. The Sprite Workshop was only a Tier 1 building, not a rare item. He could always try for it again in the future.
He had already decided to focus on Sprites for his development. They were weak now, but their potential was strong.
"Understood, Lord." The champion-level sprite, wielding a standard longsword, took the lead.
Qin Muye, however, was deeply engrossed in studying the Magic Eye spell. His current magic points were limited, accumulated through brief meditations during their journey, specifically to handle this magic scroll.
He had already grasped much of the spell, but he felt something was still missing—like a medium for casting.
This reminded him of the spellbooks in Heroes of Might and Magic. This world shared many similarities with that game, especially in terms of skills.
The group suddenly halted, and three sprites formed a protective circle around Qin Muye.
Startled, he looked up to see the champion-level sprite charging into a group of about ten skeleton soldiers, sword in hand.
With a single sweep of his blade, the skeleton soldiers' heads exploded, and the ten of them were instantly annihilated.
[A crushing victory. You have gained 155 experience points.]
[You have looted the following:]
Qin Muye didn't bother to check the resources. These were 1st-tier wild monsters, and their drops were predictable: three basic resources and gold. Each 1st-tier monster typically provided 10 experience points, 10 gold, and 5 units of basic resources, with occasional special resources.
Despite this, the loot was still substantial, far better than waiting to die in his territory.
If not for the fact that the champion-level sprite he had modified only had a three-day lifespan, it would have been a 2nd-tier champion-level unit.
Though classified as a 1st-tier unit, its attributes were genuinely 2nd-tier champion level.
After just two battles, Qin Muye's experience bar had already increased by twenty percent, and he was close to leveling up.
He was quite excited to see what changes would come with the next level.
With the champion-level sprite leading the way, they made quick progress, especially since Qin Muye had already explored and memorized the locations of many wild monsters. This saved them a lot of time.
As his experience bar filled, Qin Muye smoothly leveled up to Level 2.
[Your level has increased to LV2.]
[You have gained 1 free attribute point.]
[Choose one of the following three skills:]
[1. Intermediate Enlightenment (Gain an additional 15% experience points when leveling up)]
[2. Basic Offensive Technique (Increase melee attack damage by 10%)]
[3. Basic Pathfinding (Reduce terrain movement penalties by 10%)]
Was there even a choice? He immediately selected Intermediate Enlightenment.
He then allocated his 1 free attribute point to Knowledge. Since he had decided to play to his strengths, there was no reason to allocate points to other attributes.
"Pity, enlightenment skills can't stack." Qin Muye had hoped for both Basic and Intermediate Enlightenment, which would have given him a 20% experience boost. Unfortunately, Intermediate Enlightenment replaced Basic Enlightenment, effectively costing him 5% experience.
"Lord, there seems to be a tree ahead," the champion-level sprite suddenly said.
A tree? He had seen plenty before. What could be so special? Nevertheless, Qin Muye looked up and was surprised by what he saw.
The tree was not only massive but also seemed to have a face.
"Intriguing. It seems your luck is at work again. This reminds me of a certain fortuitous encounter," Qin Muye said, narrowing his eyes as if a memory had surfaced.
