Chapter 799: Can I Have the Child?
Chapter 799: Can I Have the Child?
The little girl saved by Kanako and Hachioki was, of course, the future Aburame Shino, Hachioki's stepson.
A highly gifted young girl, her natural talent even surpassed that of Hachioki and Kanako. At just fifteen years of age, she had already reached the level of a pillar, possessing a burst of explosive power that could significantly enhance her combat strength in a short period. Even among the pillars, she was a formidable fighter.
Of course, at this moment, Shino was like a lifeless doll, having almost completely suppressed her emotions. She allowed herself to be led by Kanako and Hachioki, her large eyes staring blankly as she followed.
She showed no initiative, made no movements, and reacted not at all to her surroundings.
Swish Swish!
Kanako and Hachioki, holding onto Shino, ran for a while and reached the edge of the busy market area.
The crowd gradually thinned out.
The two slowed their pace.
"Looks like we might have overdone it a little..."
Kanako, with her crescent-shaped eyes, glanced at the little girl they were holding and then at the dirt and smell on her, and said pitifully, "But this child is really pitiful."
Hachioki also glanced at Shino and said, "Since we've saved her, let's take her back and adopt her. Let's go back first and take good care of her."
After rescuing the little girl, Hachioki didn't hesitate to take her in. Both she and her sister had experienced the murder of their parents at a young age and could empathize with Shino's situation.
Kanako felt the same way. Although it was a spur-of-the-moment decision to save her, now that they had, they had also decided to adopt her.
"Mhm."
"Would you like to come with us?"
Kanako looked at the little girl again and asked softly.
But the little girl still stared blankly, like a puppet, showing no response at all. Her eyes were devoid of any luster, and her body remained motionless.
Seeing her like this, Kanako gently stroked her little head and then looked at Hachioki and said, "Let's go back."
"Mhm."
Hachioki nodded and, holding the little girl, prepared to return.
As they walked toward the outskirts of the town, the crowd thinned out even more. By the time they reached the outskirts, only a few scattered houses could be seen in the vicinity.
After walking a little further.
Kanako and Hachioki stopped.
A person appeared in front of them.
The man stood in the middle of the road, wearing a plain kimono and wooden clogs. His hair was a striking silver-white, and his appearance was exceptionally handsome.
Normally, even if someone stood in the middle of the road, Kanako and Hachioki wouldn't have stopped. But this silver-haired young man was different.
They both felt the same way.
He was there because of them!
They couldn't explain the source of this feeling, but it was their keen perception and instinct as extraordinary people.
Just as the two stopped unconsciously, the silver-haired young man spoke.
His voice was gentle and calm.
"Can I have the child?"
Feng Ye stood there, looking at the butterfly sisters in front of him and speaking softly.
Hearing Feng Ye's words, Hachioki and Kanako's eyes widened, and they both looked at the little girl they were holding. Then, they looked at each other, a trace of surprise in their eyes.
Although they instinctively felt that he was there because of them, they were seasoned fighters, so they were only slightly on guard. But they hadn't expected that his first request would be for the little girl they had just rescued.
They were momentarily at a loss.
However, even though they didn't know why Feng Ye wanted the little girl, Hachioki and Kanako, who had just rescued her, naturally wouldn't just hand her over.
"Sorry, we don't plan to sell her, no matter what price you offer."
Hachioki stared at Feng Ye and spoke coldly.
Feng Ye didn't answer but looked at her with profound eyes, making Hachioki feel uncomfortable. Just as she was about to lose her patience, she finally heard Feng Ye speak.
Feng Ye's words caused Butterfly Ninja's expression to freeze.
To her, such words were akin to flirtation, and she couldn't help but feel annoyed. She balled her tiny fists, ready to unleash her anger.
But before she could act, Kanae stepped forward, positioning herself in front of her sister and preventing her from lashing out.
With a gentle smile, Kanae looked at Feng Ye and said softly, "You're right, Ninja looks beautiful when she smiles. But now, may we ask you to step aside?"
Throughout her speech, she maintained a warm and soft smile.
Feng Ye offered a slight smile in return, his gaze drifting past her to Butterfly Ninja behind. "At least hear me out on the price I'm willing to pay."
"I've already said no matter the price, I won't hand her over," Butterfly Ninja replied, her face still cold.
Feng Ye remained unmoved, his expression calm and gentle. "What if the price I offer is a chance to change her destiny?"
"..." Butterfly Ninja furrowed her brows, now convinced that Feng Ye was a few cards short of a full deck.
Since she believed he wasn't in his right mind, she saw no point in continuing the conversation. She turned her head away and looked at Kanae. "Sister, let's go home."
"Mhm," Kanae nodded, still smiling.
She, too, felt that Feng Ye's mental faculties might be a bit compromised, but she maintained her pleasant expression and even gave a slight nod to Feng Ye. "We have matters to attend to, so we'll be on our way."
As they spoke, the sisters began to walk forward, pulling the little girl with them.
Even though Feng Ye was still standing in the middle of their path, they didn't bother to go around him. They sensed no ghostly aura from him.
Since Feng Ye wasn't a ghost, there was no need for excessive concern, especially since Kanae was a pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps and an accomplished swordswoman in her own right.
One step,
Two steps,
Three steps,
and the sisters, with Kanaho in tow, were about to brush past Feng Ye.
But just as they were about to pass each other, Kanae and Butterfly Ninja's steps abruptly halted, and they turned their heads in unison, their faces reflecting their astonishment.
Feng Ye remained in his original spot, seemingly having made no move, but the little girl they had been holding was now gone from between them and standing by Feng Ye's side!
Kanaho's expression remained unchanged, her large eyes devoid of any reaction to what had just transpired. She stood there like a puppet, unmoved by the turn of events.
"What's going on?!" Kanae and Butterfly Ninja exchanged glances, both seeing the bewilderment in the other's eyes.
Just moments ago, they had been walking with Kanaho between them, each holding one of her hands as they passed Feng Ye.
What had just happened? Neither Kanae nor Butterfly Ninja could maintain their composure any longer, their hearts stirred by the unexpected turn of events.
Butterfly Ninja, in particular, wore a look of shock and disbelief.
It was one thing for her to be caught off guard, but the fact that Kanae, a pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps, also seemed to have no idea what had just transpired was truly unnerving!
After all, Kanae was a formidable fighter!
Even an upper-rank Demon Moon wouldn't have been able to snatch someone away from right under her nose without her noticing!
Who was that silver-haired youth?!
