Chapter 796: Catwoman's Revenge (First Update)
Chapter 796: Catwoman's Revenge (First Update)
"Egyptian Cat Goddess, I died, resurrection, this..."
Hearing Jerry's explanation, Catwoman instinctively thought he was making it up. But at that moment, some long-buried memories suddenly flooded her mind.
It was the scene she had seen when she nearly drowned and her soul was about to leave her body.
She saw the tabby cat Jerry had mentioned, the same one that had been on the air conditioner. It stood on her lifeless body, meowed at her, and she woke up.
In one swift motion, Catwoman leaped from the bed and landed gracefully on the chair in front of the desk. She no longer feared Jerry and began to search the internet quickly.
Soon, she found a wealth of information about the Egyptian Cat Goddess and the various legendary stories of previous Catwomen.
"What do you plan to do?"
Jerry reached out to lick his paw but quickly regained his composure, suppressing the instinctive action.
Catwoman, after a moment of stunned silence, slowly replied:
"If that's true, then I need to find the person who's been hunting me down and figure out why they want to kill me. They will pay for this."
"I can help you. Consider it payment for the next few days of lodging."
Jerry responded.
From the information he had gathered, he already knew that the person who killed Catwoman was her boss at the cosmetics company, Laurel.
Laurel's company had created a miraculous anti-aging cosmetic with severe side effects. Long-term use would cause the skin to lose all sensation. If usage was discontinued, the skin would begin to rot.
Helping Catwoman bring down Laurel, reveal the truth, and stop the sale of the toxic cosmetics would be a significant good deed. The red stars he would receive should be substantial.
"That's great!"
Catwoman's eyes lit up at Jerry's willingness to help. Having a magical cat on her side would make things much easier, even though she had never believed in magic before last night.
"What kind of cat food do you like? I'll go buy some for you."
"No need, thank you. I don't like cat food. I prefer chicken legs, braised ones."
Jerry flicked his tail, and a plate of braised chicken legs appeared in front of him.
"Here, this is yours."
He picked up a chicken leg, looked at the stunned Catwoman, and flicked his tail again. A glass of milk, a sandwich, and a plate of fish jerky appeared on the table.
The transformation spell, especially when creating small, non-magical items, consumed very little of Jerry's magic power.
He could sustain himself by absorbing energy and converting it into magic power through his Fasting Technique. However, the purpose of the Fasting Technique wasn't to avoid eating but to survive in harsh, food-scarce environments without starving.
Under normal circumstances, he still had a great interest in food. With a certain base of magic power in his body, using a bit of it to enjoy a nice breakfast in the morning was a very worthwhile trade-off.
"Wow, I never thought your magic could do that."
Catwoman, watching the food materialize out of thin air, couldn't help but cover her mouth in amazement.
"Hey, are you really going to return all of this?"
Across from the jewelry store, surrounded by police and onlookers, Jerry stood on Catwoman's shoulder, asking with a hint of amusement.
Catwoman hid behind a large pillar, looking at her newly acquainted police boyfriend Tom inside the jewelry store, and then at the jewels in the bag. Her expression was one of deep reluctance.
"I really want to keep them. They are so beautiful, especially this necklace!"
"A necklace from Egypt, no wonder you like it."
Jerry understood immediately as Catwoman took out the necklace with Egyptian hieroglyphs from the bag.
Resurrected by the power of the Egyptian Cat Goddess, Catwoman had already been influenced by the divine power, causing her personality and preferences to align more with those of an Egyptian cat.
So many of her likes were similar to those of a cat, such as enjoying the fish jerky Jerry conjured for her in the morning, a fascination with Egypt-related items, a strong curiosity, a love for adventure and thievery, and a particular dislike of getting wet in the rain.
Catwoman was now human, but she was becoming more and more like a cat, especially at night.
Jerry, on the other hand, was the opposite. His body was that of a cat, but in all other aspects, he was human, including his dietary habits.
"Alright, let's get this over with!"
Seeing Catwoman still hesitating, Jerry shook his head, flicked his tail, and duplicated the Egyptian necklace.
For items without magical power, turning one stone into another or into a diamond didn't require much difference in magical power. The amount of magical power consumed largely depended on the size and complexity of the object being transformed.
Thus, the magical power Jerry used to duplicate the Egyptian necklace was less than what he used to conjure breakfast that morning.
"Jerry, are you the Egyptian Cat Goddess Bastet?"
Catwoman's eyes widened as she watched Jerry duplicate the necklace.
While she was surprised by his ability to conjure breakfast, she could accept it since she could make breakfast herself with some effort. But duplicating a priceless Egyptian necklace was a different matter entirely.
After all, the description of the Egyptian necklace stated that it was the only one of its kind in the world, a non-saleable display item in the jewelry store, and extremely valuable.
So she was now very suspicious that Jerry might be the Egyptian Cat Goddess who had resurrected her.
"No, Bastet is a tabby cat, and I'm a tortoiseshell. We are different breeds."
Jerry perched on Catwoman's shoulder, flicked his tail at the back of her head, reminding her not to overthink and to return the items and get on with their business.
Catwoman happily put the Egyptian necklace into her purse, then placed the duplicated necklace in the bag. She bought a box of small cakes from a nearby bakery and quietly made her way to the back door of the jewelry store.
Avoiding the cameras, she jumped over the high wall, placed the bag of jewels and the cake at the back door, and then left with Jerry, heading to the company's product production base where she had been pursued earlier.
An hour later, in a corner of the Meiling Cosmetics production base.
"That's him, the one who shot at me with a gun."
Catwoman pointed at a bulky man in a suit patrolling ahead, explaining to Jerry with a snarl:
"That day, I overheard a researcher in the base saying that Meiling Cosmetics were toxic. I made a bit of noise, and this guy chased me with a gun.
I want to know why he was chasing me and who was behind it all."
