Chapter 795: Three Words That Made People Spend...
Chapter 795: Three Words That Made People Spend...
As Kuro escorted Charloss away, just outside the main gate, a green-haired man gripping an Iron Mace stood watching the scene unfold.
"Guess I'm not needed here", he muttered, his gaze shifting between the gradually recovering Shirahoshi and the now-composed Neptune, who had loosened his grip on the Iron Mace.
"Better this way. I have no face to show them anymore."
The green-haired man smiled faintly and turned, vanishing into the distance.
Inside the gates, Kuro glanced outside and caught a glimpse of his retreating figure, frowning slightly.
"Another World Noble? Looking to join the chaos?"
"It's Donquixote Mjosgard", Lucci said, approaching with a neutral tone. "Unlike most World Nobles, he doesn’t seem to enslave others."
"Donquixote", Garp echoed, his voice laced with recognition.
David also turned to watch the fading silhouette. "The Donquixote Family of Mariejois?"
As the former master of the Pansha Family eight centuries ago, the Donquixote name carried weight for David. But those ties had long since frayed—Pansha had found a new master after eight hundred years of abandonment.
The Donquiotte who chose to become a god instead of protecting their people no longer deserved their legacy.
"Thank you", King Neptune said, gliding forward with a fish-tail flick, his gratitude evident.
"Never thought a Navy officer would help us", Shirahoshi added, rushing to bow hastily before Kuro.
Kuro waved a dismissive hand. "Don’t flatter yourselves. I did it for the Navy’s reputation, not you."
Garp barked a laugh. "Hah! That’s right! You’re under the old man’s protection. If anything happened, it’d ruin his reputation too!"
"Then why didn’t you stop them, Garp?!" Kuro snapped, irritation flashing.
Garp clapped Kuro’s shoulder, grinning. "You’ve got more clout than the old man now."
"Regardless, thank you", Neptune bowed again, his voice softening. "I never wanted to betray Otohime’s wishes."
Shirahoshi peeked up shyly at the smoke-cigar-chewing Navy officer.
He didn’t seem as fearsome as Luffy’s crew had described. Maybe he’s a good person after all…
"Save the speech, Neptune", Kuro cut in, folding his arms. "Just keep your fishmen out of the Grand Line, and we’ll call it even."
Did Neptune think him a naive pushover? The fishmen terrorizing the Grand Line weren’t just pirates—they were puppets Neptune could rein in if he truly tried. Even Blackbeard had reported to him before ascending to the Four Emperors.
Kuro knew Neptune’s inaction stemmed from resentment. With so many fishmen storming the surface, how could Neptune claim helplessness?
Back in the G-3 Sea Area, Kuro’s crew had lost a ship to a fishman ambush. If he’d arrived any later, they’d have been wiped out. That debt still burned.
Neptune chuckled awkwardly, scratching his head. "Subjects have their own minds. I can’t control their every move."
"Fine", Kuro said, biting his cigar. "I’ll show you respect if you do the same."
"I’ll try", Neptune nodded.
Kuro turned away, scanning the banquet. The departing World Noble hadn’t unsettled the royal families—platters clinked, drinks poured, business as usual.
"Three words made a man spend 30 million Berry!"
A woman’s voice rose above the crowd. At the center, a plain-looking woman basked in the attention of a group of aristocratic ladies.
"I’m a lecturer on understanding humanity, specializing in how to make men open their wallets!"
Kuro’s eyebrow twitched.
"Understanding humanity"? Typical buzzword—people only called themselves "understanding humanity" when they meant "pathetic".
"Sounds fascinating!" Lida perked up, edging toward the crowd before Kuro snagged his collar.
"Are you trying to get scammed? Only two kinds of people can make others spend so recklessly—lovers or kidnappers."
Kuro rolled his White Eye. "Those women aren’t here for advice. They’re gathering tricks to fool their own clueless, greedy citizens. Let them have their fun."
"Princess Vivi!" A tattooed figure rushed to her side. "I heard the commotion. Are you alright?"
"Just a minor disturbance", Vivi said. "Handled already. Where’s the King?"
"He’s in a meeting with Admiral Vegapunk about some urgent matter", the messenger replied.
Kuro’s gaze sharpened toward the palace, sensing the faint aura of a familiar presence. "We should leave, Garp."
Garp laughed. "Right! Staying too long might look suspicious. Time for a royal meeting!"
The Four Kings’ summit would exclude the attending nobles, leaving little reason for the families to linger.
"David", Kuro called, waving his cigar. "Discuss my proposal before the meeting."
"Understood, Lord", David bowed formally, ignoring the nobles’ shock. "I’ll handle it."
"Appreciate it", Kuro said, turning to leave.
"Wait", Luo Wei hesitated, watching Lida follow Kuro. After a long pause, he muttered, "You could’ve stayed…"
"Already gone, King Luo Wei", King Alexander Francis interjected.
Luo Wei turned—Lida had vanished.
"Unforgivable!" he hissed. "Damn Kuro! Kidnapping my sister again!"
"Esteemed Kings", David bowed, addressing the remaining rulers. "Since you’ve all met Lord Kuro, let’s strengthen our bonds. Discuss his proposal over tea?"
"Fine by me", Luo Wei grumbled, masking his frustration. His sister was in Kuro’s hands—opposition wasn’t an option.
"Agreed", Alexander Francis said, his grin widening. Kuro had saved his life and throne.
The North Blue Kings nodded too, their mix of fear and admiration for Kuro leaving no room for refusal.
