Chapter 793: Why Does This Handwriting Look So Familiar?
Chapter 793: Why Does This Handwriting Look So Familiar?
"Which department is responsible for Protective Arrays and the Sealed Fireplace?" Ivan asked.
"It's the Department of Mysteries and the Department of Magical Transportation..." Umbridge replied without hesitation.
"Very good..." Ivan thought about the information on these two departments for a moment, then suddenly raised his wand and pointed it at Umbridge's forehead.
"Obliviate!"
A bright white light flashed before Umbridge's eyes.
Umbridge felt her mind grow hazy, as if she had forgotten something. She sat there, dazed and motionless.
After about three seconds, Ivan slowly lowered his wand and returned it to Umbridge's waist. He then focused his mind, took the black quill from her hand, and kindly used healing magic to mend the wounds on her hand.
After finishing all this, Ivan snapped his fingers, and Umbridge snapped out of her daze.
"What just happened?"
Umbridge shook her head, feeling dizzy, and her memories flooded back.
She remembered that she was punishing Ivan Hals, trying to force him to help correct Dumbledore. However, this stubborn child refused to give in even after over two hours of needle-like pain, stubbornly filling the entire parchment. She had been staring at it, almost falling asleep.
After piecing together the events, Umbridge looked down at the parchment on the table, which she remembered Ivan Hals had just handed her.
But why does this handwriting look so familiar?
Umbridge furrowed her brow, but a voice in her mind kept telling her that this was indeed Ivan Hals' handwriting, and she was just overthinking it...
Umbridge hesitated for a moment, then casually tossed the parchment into the roaring fireplace. She then smiled at Ivan and said, "That's all for today, Hals. Think over my proposal. For the next week, you must come to my office every evening until you have 'Obey School Rules and Regulations' ingrained in your mind, understood?"
"Every evening? You must be mistaken, Professor Umbridge. I think once a week is enough." Ivan shook his head; he didn't want to waste so much time chatting with Umbridge.
Seeing Ivan dare to defy her, Umbridge's face darkened, but she quickly regained her composure. She suddenly realized that his argument had some merit. She had seen Ivan's stubbornness before, and mere writing wouldn't make him comply.
So, it would be best to spend some time convincing the Ministry of Magic to allow her to use those outdated punishments from the last century, like hanging misbehaving students and whipping them!
Sensing Umbridge's thoughts, Ivan's lips twitched slightly, but he didn't interrupt the middle-aged witch's musings. Instead, he stood up and took his leave.
As he walked out of the office and made his way down the corridor toward the Gryffindor Common Room, Ivan organized the information he had obtained from Umbridge.
It's worth noting that to avoid any suspicion due to her sudden change in behavior, Ivan didn't use the Imperius Curse to control her actions. Instead, he gave her a significant degree of autonomy, retaining only minimal control.
To be safe, he also modified Umbridge's memory, removing the part about discussing the Ministry of Magic and replacing it with her supervising him as he wrote "Obey School Rules and Regulations."
With these two layers of preparation, only a Legilimency Master like Dumbledore or Voldemort would have a chance of uncovering any clues by thoroughly examining Umbridge's memories...
"Ivan, are you alright?" "Did Umbridge punish you?"
As soon as he stepped through the door of the Common Room, the young wizards of Gryffindor immediately surrounded him, bombarding him with questions.
Hermione was the first to grab Ivan's right hand to check it. Only when she saw no scars on the back of his hand did she breathe a sigh of relief.
"I told you, Hermione. Umbridge just wanted to chat. She can't do anything to me", Ivan said with a smile, gently holding the young witch's arm.
"Should we continue with the meeting this week?" a voice suddenly called out from the crowd.
The noisy Common Room fell silent instantly. Everyone looked at Ivan with unease. According to the Ministry of Magic's latest regulations, being caught at a large gathering could result in expulsion...
"Of course... we'll continue! But we need to change the format slightly", Ivan said firmly, scanning the crowd.
...
A few days passed in the blink of an eye. After dealing with Umbridge, Ivan returned to his normal studies, continuing to research and familiarize himself with the Philosopher's Stone's power to avoid any mishaps during battles.
As for the operations against the Ministry of Magic, he instructed Dobby to assign the tasks to Dawgert and the others. Ivan only provided a general outline; the detailed planning and execution were left to the Imagination Monsters. This gave them something to do, so they wouldn't sit around idly all day...
Apart from these two important matters, Ivan dedicated one to two hours each day to teaching the young wizards who had joined the Dark Magic Defense Association.
The meeting location had shifted from the remote Shrieking Shack to the Training Room in the Room of Requirement. After creating the Philosopher's Stone, there was no longer a need to hide it. To make things easier, Ivan decided to hold the meetings here, changing the frequency from once a week to every day, with each session limited to about forty participants. This rotation system reduced the risk of discovery.
Although the castle could overlook the occasional disappearance of people, Umbridge's mind would automatically filter out such anomalies. However, they still needed to maintain a facade.
"Miss Edgecombe, Protego is a very practical spell. It can block and even deflect an opponent's spell. You need to wave your wand gently, like this, and then say, 'Protego.'"
On Saturday evening, inside the Room of Requirement, Ivan slowly waved his wand, demonstrating the spell. An invisible magical barrier immediately appeared around him.
"Is it like this? Protego!" Marietta Edgecombe stood beside Ivan, mimicking his movements and casting the spell. A faint magical barrier appeared but quickly shattered.
Clearly, the spell had failed. Marietta sighed, feeling disappointed. She had practiced for over an hour with little progress.
