Chapter 793: Cat Woman (Second Update)
Chapter 793: Cat Woman (Second Update)
"Alohomora!"
Jerry's tail pointed at the lock on the cage, and a blue light shot out. The lock, under the power of the Unlocking Charm, clicked open.
However, just as Jerry reached the door of the cage, a meow came from behind.
It was the cat mother, awakened by the sound of the lock opening. She noticed Jerry trying to escape and lunged to bite the back of his neck, intending to carry her misbehaving kitten back to sleep.
"Stupefy!"
Jerry's newborn body was no match for the cat mother's strength, so he reluctantly cast another Stunning Spell to put her back to sleep.
"You'll stay here for now. I'll come back for you later."
Leaving the cat cage, Jerry glanced at the cat mother and his three siblings from this life before turning and walking toward the pet store's entrance.
Domesticated tabby cats might not be valuable in his home country, but they were still quite expensive abroad. The cat mother and the other three kittens would have a comfortable life in the pet store.
Before leaving, Jerry marked each of the four cats. Once he regained some of his strength, he would return to take them away.
"Smokescreen!"
As he approached the range of the pet store's security cameras, Jerry cast another Smokescreen Charm to block their view, then used Alohomora to unlock the door and leave the store.
If he had enough magic power, he could have simply Apparated out of the pet store.
Unfortunately, the magic power he had gained from a day's worth of practice was only enough to cast a few basic spells. Spells like Apparition, which involved spatial manipulation, required a significant amount of magic power.
"This is Salt Lake City."
Walking through the city streets, Jerry quickly recognized his location from the signs around him.
Earlier in the store, he had overheard the two employees' accents and knew he had been reborn in the United States, though he was unsure which city.
"Has anything significant happened in Salt Lake City?"
Salt Lake City, the capital and largest city of Utah, is known for its proximity to the Great Salt Lake and is a relatively economically developed city.
However, Jerry's memories did not include many stories related to this city, so he couldn't determine which world he was in.
"I'll stay here for now!"
After a quick exploration of the area, Jerry found a quiet place suitable for his practice.
It was a large park with plenty of plants and trees. He found a secluded corner where he wouldn't be discovered for a while.
What he needed most was a quiet, undisturbed environment to recover some of his magic power.
He slipped deeper into the park, found a dense patch of grass, and used his small paws to draw a Warding Array on the ground. Then, he entered a meditative trance.
"Fuck, which lunatic uses a smoke grenade to steal a cat!"
The next day, the two employees discovered a missing China tabby cat kitten and checked the security footage. Seeing the white smoke cloud, one of them couldn't help but swear.
Pet theft wasn't unheard of, but using a smoke grenade to steal a cat was a first.
A month later, the palm-sized Jerry woke from his meditation, jumped out of the grass, and stood up.
"I should be ready now."
After a month of meditative trance, the magic power in his feline body had significantly improved, and his physical strength was on par with that of an average adult cat. It was time to explore this new world.
The weaker one is, the less efficiently they absorb magic power. The stronger one is, the more efficiently they absorb magic power.
Having reincarnated as a cat, his efficiency in absorbing magic power was already much lower than that of a human. If he were to solely focus on intense cultivation, it would take an unknown amount of time to restore his strength to match that of his main soul.
Therefore, he needed to explore this new world and see if there were any valuable items that could help him recover his magic power. He also planned to earn some red stars to aid his cultivation.
In Jerry's mind, the owner of the Panel was extremely powerful, far beyond his current capabilities. He dared to engage in a certain level of competition with the owner.
It wasn't that he believed his strength could resist the owner, but rather that the owner clearly couldn't personally intervene.
Like the energy exchanged for red stars in the Panel, it could be directly absorbed into the body without conversion. This universal energy was something Jerry still couldn't comprehend.
"Looks like this world isn't entirely peaceful, which is good for earning some red stars."
Shortly after leaving the park, Jerry planned to find a random house, use a computer to go online, and gather information about this new world.
Suddenly, he heard the sound of glass being shattered from a nearby jewelry store that had already closed for the night.
Clearly, someone was taking advantage of the darkness to rob the store, and it was the most expensive jewelry shop.
So, he changed direction and headed straight for the jewelry store.
He could go online anytime, and it wouldn't hurt to earn some red stars first.
"These short legs are too slow."
After walking for a while, Jerry realized that even though his body had become stronger due to the magic power cleansing, his legs were still too short. Even at full speed, he couldn't run very fast.
Deciding to use a simplified flying spell, he gave his back a pair of small wings.
The Phantom Shift spell was too costly due to its involvement with spatial laws, but the flying spell, especially the simplified version he had improved, was very efficient for his current weight.
Flapping his wings, Jerry quickly flew through the gap in the jewelry store's broken door.
Inside the store, two black-clad robbers, armed with rifles, were rapidly smashing the glass of each counter and stuffing the valuable gold and silver jewelry into their bags.
"Thoss, there's... there's a cat!"
The fatter robber, who had just finished looting one counter and was about to smash the next, suddenly saw Jerry at the entrance and let out a cry of alarm.
The thinner robber, who had just taken the most eye-catching necklace from the display case, heard the cry and impatiently cursed:
"What's so surprising about a cat? Hurry up, just because the alarm is off doesn't mean we're safe."
"But, that cat... it has wings."
Hearing this, the thinner robber looked up at the entrance, his pupils contracting, and the beautiful necklace in his hand fell to the ground.
"It really is a cat with wings!"
"Stupefy, Obliviate!"
Jerry, seeing the two robbers staring in shock, flicked his tail and cast two spells in quick succession, knocking both of them out.
However, after casting the spells, he didn't leave. Instead, he looked up at the stairs leading to the second floor of the jewelry store, where a woman dressed in leather and wearing a mask, resembling a cat, stood.
