Chapter 792: Persistence
Chapter 792: Persistence
Gu An did not rush to intervene; instead, he continued to watch Li Xuemiao battle the Demonic Fiend. Although Li Xuemiao was not the fiend’s match, the fight would hone his skills.
After observing for a while, he shifted his gaze to Li Ya.
Though he often joked about Li Ya always getting beaten, he genuinely admired him. Gu An had invested far less in Li Ya’s cultivation than in his disciples. Despite the hardships Li Ya faced, his rate of progress was impressive, and few of his peers could match him.
Li Ya’s fate had been in constant flux, and even without Gu An’s intervention, he could alter his destiny through opportunities. Once, his fate was to become the greatest cultivator under heaven. Now, it extended beyond the Heavenly Spirit Great World.
This perilous encounter had also changed Li Ya’s fate.
He now had a causal fate line leading to immortality.
This battle would fuel his obsession with immortality. Once Li Ya was fixated on a goal, he would spare no effort to achieve it. It was this determination that had brought him to where he was today.
In a way, Li Ya was like the protagonist of a novel from Earth’s past. Gu An would often follow his progress during his leisure time, as if watching an engaging series.
By dusk, Li Xuemiao’s battle with the Demonic Fiend was still ongoing. They had fallen into a Great Dao River, which, coincidentally, was the River of Fate.
Lu Qiuxian, though still in the River of Fate, had already freed himself from its influence. He had been cultivating in the river’s depths and seemed to be creating a grand technique related to the Causal Dao.
Lu Qiuxian had sensed Li Xuemiao’s battle but was indifferent. He knew that Immortal Deities were virtually indestructible and had no interest in getting involved in Heavenly Court affairs.
Gu An stood up and stretched in the courtyard. Recently, he had rarely stayed in the bamboo grove. He decided to take some time to relax and stop dwelling on that mysterious state of mind.
If he couldn’t figure it out, why not let it go?
Gu An wished he could be as persistent as Li Ya, but if he couldn’t, he would have to let it go.
If all else failed, he would use his trump card!
With the ability to evolve his lifespan, he could not afford to discard it.
He always felt he wasn’t a genius. His current achievements were entirely due to his lifespan evolution ability. Even though he had become powerful, he never denied this and had no pretensions about giving it up.
He cultivated to find something to do during the years he stored his lifespan.
He could take shortcuts to grow stronger, but he needed to understand his power thoroughly.
Gu An chatted casually with Shen Zhen by the alchemy cauldron before returning to his room alone.
As the moon set and the sun rose, a new day began. Gu An walked out of his room, holding a flute and heading towards the courtyard’s entrance.
The training ground was a picturesque landscape of rolling hills and lush greenery, with spirit mists drifting through the air, making the world seem like a celestial realm. Though Gu An was accustomed to the training ground’s scenery, he always felt a sense of satisfaction whenever he stepped out of the courtyard.
He could see much of the world, but the training ground was truly his own little world. Everything here made him content.
He walked into the forest, enjoying the morning breeze.
The flowers and plants along the path were vibrant, and faint traces of spiritual entities, formed by Dao Intent, occasionally passed by. These entities had some level of consciousness but could not interact with living spirits or communicate. They existed in the same training ground but in a different space.
As he advanced, Gu An reached a cliff on the hillside. From a distance, he saw a group of disciples practicing sword techniques by a river in the mountains, guided by a fifth-generation disciple.
Such scenes were common in the training ground. The Primordial Dao Tradition had established its own rules and order, requiring no intervention from Gu An.
Over time, the Primordial had become more than just Gu An’s training ground; it was the disciples’ pride. The second-generation disciples had built a positive reputation for the Primordial during their travels, earning it the title of a sacred immortal cultivation site in the mortal world.
Each year, many people came to the edge of the Nine Spirit Continent, hoping to join the Primordial, but even becoming a citizen of the Nine Spirit Empire was difficult.
Gu An raised his flute, spinning it in his hand, and his gaze fell on Li Xuemiao.
Li Xuemiao was now at a disadvantage!
In the vast River of Fate, the mysterious Demonic Fiend was entangled in black chains formed by the Causal Dao. He wielded a spear, attacking Li Xuemiao with increasing ferocity, forcing him to retreat step by step.
Li Xuemiao’s hair was disheveled, and though his armor had not yet broken, he looked disheveled and seemed to be on the brink of defeat.
Li Xuemiao frowned. The demonic creatures spewed from the fiend’s mouth were eroding his magical power, and the black chains around the fiend’s body were also disrupting his spells.
He had exerted all his efforts, using every technique and secret arts he knew. The best he could do was to disperse the fiend’s physical form, but it would quickly re-form, leaving him feeling powerless.
"Am I going to lose?"
Li Xuemiao thought, unwillingly. As an Immortal Deity, he could be revived in the Heavenly Court, but he was unwilling to let his first battle as an Immortal Deity end in defeat.
The hundreds of cultivators in the fiend’s grasp were once again plunged into despair.
"His movements are slowing down. I can barely make out some of his techniques..."
"Even a Heavenly Court Immortal Lord can’t overcome this demon. We’re truly doomed."
"Is the Heavenly Court, where Immortal Deities gather, sending only one Immortal Lord?"
"Do you know what an Immortal Lord represents? All the Immortal Deities currently warring in the Three Thousand Great Worlds are of a lower rank than him."
"Damn it, to die at the hands of an unknown demon is truly pathetic."
The cultivators murmured, many in silence, their eyes filled with fear.
More than death, they feared the torture that awaited them.
This demon was so powerful yet did not kill them, taking them to some unknown place, clearly not intending to let them die easily.
Li Ya had already regained his composure from his complex emotions. Now, he was only worried, fearing that Li Xuemiao might suffer an unfortunate fate.
He didn’t think it was a coincidence. With his cultivation, he could sense the karmic connections between people, and as an Immortal Lord, Li Xuemiao could do the same.
He believed Li Xuemiao had come specifically to save him, even though they weren’t close, they were still of the same clan.
"Don’t be foolish. You’ve just achieved immortality; there’s no need to fight to the death for us..."
Li Ya whispered, hoping Li Xuemiao could hear him.
At that moment, the Demonic Fiend roared, and the chains around him quickly intertwined, forming a black coffin.
The black coffin’s appearance caused the surrounding Great Dao energy to surge towards it, and Li Xuemiao felt a powerful suction force.
Seeing the massive black coffin, larger than the fiend itself, Li Xuemiao felt a strong sense of unease.
Whatever was inside that coffin was extremely dangerous!
