Chapter 791: Ivan: Yes, I'm Going to Take on the Ministry of Magic!
Chapter 791: Ivan: Yes, I’m Going to Take on the Ministry of Magic!
"Of course, strictly speaking, you haven’t violated any school rules, hmm... yet!"
At this point, Umbridge couldn’t help but emphasize her words, "However, this is predicated on you dissolving that so-called study interest group as required and telling me... who exactly is behind all this?"
"No one is behind me, Professors. If I must say, this was a decision I made on my own", Ivan shrugged and said.
"Lie!" Umbridge shouted, her eyes fixed on Ivan’s face as if trying to read something from it.
She couldn’t believe that a fifteen-year-old Young Wizard would spontaneously organize a gathering of a hundred people and make statements against the Ministry of Magic.
"Is it Dumbledore? It must be him, secretly instructing you to do all this, right?" Umbridge asked, her voice tinged with urgency and a hint of anticipation.
Ivan looked at Umbridge with a peculiar gaze and then asked with sudden interest, "Well, if I say yes, what would you do to him?"
"So, you’re willing to cooperate with us as a witness, Halsmaster?" Umbridge was visibly excited, her face full of surprise.
"You haven’t answered my question yet, Professors..." Ivan replied noncommittally.
Umbridge managed to calm her excitement and said, "If everything you say is true, then our Headmaster Dumbledore is likely trying to force Hogwarts students into military training, forming a group of child soldiers to plot against the Minister of Magic..."
"According to the Ministry of Magic’s regulations, this is a serious offense! If nothing unexpected happens, he will be stripped of his headmaster position and spend the rest of his life in Azkaban..."
Umbridge cast a threatening glance at Ivan as she spoke.
Ivan paid no attention to Umbridge’s gaze and continued, "If nothing unexpected happens? But what if something does?"
"For example, if Dumbledore decides to use magic to resist the Ministry of Magic... what would you do then?" Ivan added.
He had always been curious about how Fudge in the original timeline had the nerve to lead a group to arrest Dumbledore. Was he out of his mind?
"The Ministry of Magic has over a hundred Aurors!" Umbridge glared at Ivan and then continued arrogantly, "Dumbledore can’t and won’t dare to oppose us. He must follow the Ministry of Magic’s regulations and accept punishment, unless... he’s prepared to go against the entire Wizarding World!"
Ivan nodded, understanding the situation. It was the bureaucratic mindset at play.
These people were used to enforcing order and regulations, and subconsciously believed that an individual couldn’t stand against the collective will.
Moreover, Dumbledore usually appeared very gentle and law-abiding, even tolerating being smeared by the Daily Prophet as a mad old man or a fool. This is why Fudge and Umbridge had the illusion that they could arrest Dumbledore as soon as they found a reason.
"I hope you’ll think carefully, Hals!" Umbridge’s face darkened after Ivan’s questioning, and she continued, "Your mother, Asia, hasn’t been very quiet recently. The Ministry of Magic is well aware of her activities in Knockturn Alley."
But if you cooperate with the Ministry of Magic and testify against Dumbledore, Minister Fudge might consider sparing your mother and not holding her accountable for this incident..."
"Not holding her accountable?" Ivan almost burst out laughing, then he sighed, unsure whether he was feeling relieved or exasperated. "I think I understand. The Ministry of Magic has no way to deal with a Wizard who exceeds the norms and doesn't follow the rules..."
"It seems you're determined to follow Dumbledore and oppose the Ministry of Magic, is that right?" Umbridge stood up abruptly, her face twisted in a frightening expression as she gripped her wand with her right hand.
"Not exactly, you got one thing wrong from the start!" Ivan shook his head, pointed at himself, and looked at Umbridge, speaking with certainty. "The student gatherings and the preparations to resist the Ministry of Magic were organized by me!"
Umbridge's face was filled with astonishment. She seemed to suddenly realize something but still had lingering doubts. Nevertheless, she immediately drew her wand.
However, Ivan was faster. He didn't need a wand or a spell; he simply extended a finger, and the Alchemical Device on his wrist glowed faintly.
A red light flashed in the air, and before Umbridge could cast a Protective Charm, she felt a powerful force collide with her body. The wand she was gripping flew out of her hand, spinning in mid-air, and landed in Ivan's grasp.
In an instant, Umbridge lost her ability to resist.
Looking at the fifteen-year-old Young Wizard before her, Umbridge felt an overwhelming sense of fear. Only then did she remember that he had faced a Dragon head-on last year, far beyond her capabilities.
Despite this, Umbridge refused to back down and instead shouted harshly, "I am the High Inquisitor appointed by Minister Fudge, and you dare to lay a hand on me..."
Ivan didn't respond, merely waving the wand he had just taken lazily.
"Imperio~"
The moment the spell was cast, Umbridge let out a terrified scream.
But in the next second, the fear and anger on her face slowly faded. Her mind became empty, her body felt weightless, and a voice in her head kept telling her that the Young Wizard before her was the person she trusted and respected the most.
"Sit!" Ivan casually placed the wand on the table and pointed to the chair in front of him.
Umbridge quickly moved and sat back down as Ivan had instructed.
For a moment, it seemed everything had returned to the beginning, but this time, the roles were completely reversed.
Ivan didn't rush to ask questions. Instead, he focused on the table in front of him, where a roll of parchment and a long, thin, sharp-tipped black quill lay.
"Is this meant to be used against me?" Ivan asked curiously.
"Yes, Halsmaster..." Umbridge nodded and explained in the gentlest tone she could manage. "This quill is enchanted to carve the words you write into the wrist of the writer. My original plan was to have you copy 'Obey School Rules and Regulations' until you had it engraved in your heart..."
"I see..." Ivan nodded in understanding, picked up the quill and parchment, and placed them in front of Umbridge. "So what are you waiting for? Start copying! And while you're at it, tell me who told you about the Dark Arts Defense Association."
