Chapter 791: Dark Hero
Chapter 791: Dark Hero
"My turn, draw."
Decade drew a card but didn't play it immediately. Instead, he bowed his head, deep in thought or hesitation.
Choukyo Zetsu taunted, "What's the matter? Are you already scared? Hey, if you surrender now, I might even go easy on you."
Decade ignored him.
"Decade."
Shin Yasha's figure appeared beside him once more.
"Power itself has no distinction between good and evil," Shin Yasha said, "The key is to wield it with a heart of justice."
"Shin Yasha."
Decade turned his head, meeting his gaze, and his spirit nodded, giving him a thumbs-up.
Decade closed his eyes lightly, letting out a relieved smile.
"That's true. Power is just power; it depends on the user. I've understood this for a long time. And I've also decided that no matter how heavy or dark the past is, I will carry it and move forward."
He pressed the button on the card covering the back row of his Duel Disk.
"Activate Set Card, Spell Card—
—Dark Fusion!"
The Set Card flipped, releasing a powerful dark vortex and an astonishing chaos, with thunder and lightning surging within!
Choukyo Zetsu: "!"
This card... such a powerful darkness! In that instant, he seemed to understand why this boy deserved the attention of the Light of Annihilation, why he was said to be the opposite of light and must be defeated at all costs.
"Fuse 'Elemental Hero Thunder Giant' and 'Elemental Hero Mudman' from my hand using dark power!"
Decade declared.
"A hero who transforms into a demonic body to gain the power of protection, appear—
—Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem!"
Thick dark clouds gathered, like the deepest ink splattered across the sky. Black lightning tore through the heavens, and black thunder snakes intertwined like living creatures, as if pure darkness and lightning formed an indestructible body, a massive figure like a black fortress calling for thunder.
Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem, Summon!
[Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem, ATK 2400]
"Thunder Golem? I've never heard of such a hero."
Staring at the towering figure before him, the surging lightning and the suffocating pressure made Choukyo Zetsu feel as if he couldn't breathe for a moment.
Even the aura emanating from the boy in front of him was like a dark giant, an imposing presence that made one tremble as if they were a superior being.
"Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem's effect, once per turn, destroy one monster on the field." Decade said, "Destroy one of your 'White Knight Corps Swordsman'!"
The dark giant's right palm emerged, and the lightning in its palm turned into a surging dark current, instantly shattering one of the swordsmen into pieces."
"Then, 'Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem' attacks!"
Dark lightning gathered again, surging and erupting in the golem's palm!
Choukyo Zetsu quickly recovered from the oppressive aura of the malevolent hero and shouted, "Activate Set Card, Trap Card 'Chaos Explosion'!
When an opponent's monster declares an attack, sacrifice one of your monsters to destroy the attacking monster and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the destroyed monster's ATK!" (Original Effect)
This trap also appeared in the GX Anime, but its effect was weakened in the real card game. The initial effect remains the same, but the damage effect was modified to deal a fixed 1000 points of damage to the opponent instead of damage based on the destroyed monster's ATK.
"I sacrifice the second 'White Knight Corps Swordsman' on the field!" Zetsu Choukyo cackled, "Destroy the 'Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem' immediately!"
"Destroy the 'Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem' and inflict 2400 points of damage to your opponent!"
The second Swordsman vanished as a sacrifice, and the released energy filled the Trap Card like ammunition, transforming into a golden light stream that surged towards the Thunder Golem!
But it was completely useless.
The domineering light stream hit the Thunder Golem's chest directly, but it only brushed past the indestructible steel armor, leaving not even a trace.
"Nani!?" Zetsu exclaimed in shock.
"The effect of Dark Fusion," Decade explained, "The Malevolent Hero summoned by Dark Fusion cannot be destroyed by the opponent's Magic or Trap effects this turn." (Original Effect)
The actual card Dark Fusion retained its resistance, but the destruction resistance was modified to immunity from being targeted by the opponent's card effects this turn, each with its advantages and disadvantages.
"So I'm sorry, but Chaos Explosion is ineffective against the Thunder Golem," Decade said, "The attack of the Malevolent Hero·Thunder Golem continues."

"Attack the last remaining 'White Knight Corps Swordsman' on your field!"
Zetsu clenched his teeth.
The three Swordsmen he summoned this turn had now been reduced to just one.
"Then, the effect of 'White Knight Corps Swordsman'," Zetsu explained, "When this card is in the graveyard, all monsters on the field with the name 'White Knight Corps' gain 300 attack points."
He raised his Duel Disk, and a golden light blossomed from the graveyard.
"Now I have two 'White Knight Corps Swordsmen' in my graveyard, and their effects stack, increasing the attack of the White Knights on the field by a total of 600!"
[White Knight Corps Swordsman, Attack 1200 → Attack 1800]
Of course, it was still no match for the Thunder Golem. The pitch-black lightning pierced through its chest, and the Swordsman's heart bloomed with joy as a hole was blasted open in its chest.
But this Swordsman was surprisingly resilient; despite the gaping hole in its chest, it stood firm, and the black lightning that pierced through its body only struck a transparent white shield, failing to harm Zetsu himself.
"At this moment, I banished 'White Knight Corps Guardian' from my graveyard," Zetsu explained, "When a White Knight Corps monster on your field is in battle, banish 'White Knight Corps Guardian' from the game, allowing the battle damage inflicted by White Knight Corps monsters to become 0, and they cannot be destroyed in battle."
In the anime, Manjome described it as "battle damage becomes 0," but during actual gameplay, the monster seemed to not be destroyed. Perhaps it was just an oversight in the description, or it could be that in this season of the anime, monster destruction was included in the concept of "battle damage."
"Not bad, catching the Thunder Golem's attack," Decade smiled, "Then, I'll set a card and end my turn."
"My turn, draw!"
If Zetsu wasn't entirely sure about his objective when he arrived, he now had a clear understanding. No wonder this person was considered their top enemy; he seemed to be a formidable opponent indeed.
"Excellent. Then, let me show you the might of the White Knights this turn!"
