Chapter 790: Battle in Godric's Valley
Chapter 790: Battle in Godric's Valley
Where was Dumbledore... Ron wasn't the only one with this question. Everyone else remembered meeting Dumbledore and speaking with him, yet he had suddenly disappeared.
But aside from Kyle, no one could provide an answer.
The moment the Death Eaters appeared, Kyle tensed up, not paying attention to the arguing Harry and Hermione, and instead searched intently among the Death Eaters.
After a moment, Kyle breathed a sigh of relief.
Fortunately, they were all wearing masks... a trademark of the Death Eaters. Since they were Death Eaters, it meant the most troublesome person hadn't arrived.
With that, there was nothing to worry about.
By the time Kyle came to his senses, the battle had already begun. Magic flashed from all directions, and the protective spells around them lasted only briefly before being destroyed.
Everyone was exposed to the Death Eaters. The sky seemed shrouded in thick darkness as they descended, appearing around each person with their numerical advantage.
Harry's group was the largest.
Just as Hermione was about to lead Harry away, she was interrupted. Various spells flew from all directions, making it difficult for her to concentrate on using Apparition.
Reluctantly, Hermione made a quick decision. She pushed Harry away and dove in the opposite direction, narrowly avoiding the incoming spells.
Ron, standing beside them, was a step too slow. A spell hit his shoulder.
Ron cried out in pain, clutching his shoulder, as blood gushed from the wound, soaking his robes.
"Ron, Ron! Are you okay?" Hermione asked, her voice trembling. But her voice was quickly drowned out by louder explosions.
She wanted to go to Ron, but the descending Death Eaters blocked her path.
"Expelliarmus!" Harry shouted, waving his wand.
Although he successfully disarmed one Death Eater, this advantage was insignificant against so many enemies.
"Kyle!" Cedric called out. "Go help Harry. I must assist Lupin and Tonks. They won't last long!"
"No, stay here!" Kyle appeared in front of Ron, waving his wand. A silver shield appeared, blocking the incoming spells and protecting Ron.
At the same time, the ground beneath Harry and Hermione rose, lifting them out of the Death Eaters' encirclement.
In an instant, the three of them were temporarily out of danger.
"Go to Cedric," Kyle glanced at the disheveled trio and shouted, "I'll handle this. Protect yourselves!"
With that, Kyle disappeared again.
"Apparition in battle?!" Hermione, now alert, was startled. "That's too dangerous!"
"I think we should consider our own safety first," Cedric said gravely as he approached them. "You don't need to worry about Kyle. He mastered this spell in his fifth year... Ironskin!"
Cedric blocked an incoming spell from the side with the Ironskin Charm, and retaliated with a Stunning Spell.
Harry and Hermione also began their counterattacks. The three of them formed a circle, protecting the injured Ron.
Meanwhile, Kyle appeared in the center of the battlefield, where Lupin and Tonks were.
Facing Bellatrix and the relentless attacks of seven or eight Death Eaters, the two could barely hold on. If it weren't for Sirius's timely assistance, they might not even last a single round.
"Water Arrow!"
A stream of water shot out from the tip of Kyle's wand, twisting and transforming into arrows in midair, swiftly flying towards the densest area of Death Eaters.
Cries echoed through the crowd, and the intense spell attacks momentarily paused.
Kyle immediately used Transfiguration on the ground beneath Lupin and Tonks, using the same method as he did to save Harry, throwing them out of the encirclement.
"You!" Bellatrix glared at Kyle, her arm covered in a wound from the 'arrow.' "How dare you ruin my fun!"
"Yes, but what can you do? Kill me?" Kyle shrugged.
"As you wish!" Bellatrix raised her wand in a frenzy, and a green light flew straight towards Kyle.
But in the next second, Kyle disappeared with a 'crack', dodging Bellatrix's Killing Curse and appearing behind her.
"Wind Veil!"
The howling wind transformed into the sharpest of blades, and its range was even wider than the previous Water Arrow.
In an instant, several Death Eaters closest to Kyle fell like harvested wheat, screaming and collapsing. Blood sprayed from their wounds, turning into blood mist that splattered onto the surrounding Death Eaters.
"Tsk..." Kyle frowned, dissatisfied with the result.
This was the modified Wind Veil Curse. Well, the range had indeed increased significantly, but the effectiveness was not as desired, only capable of affecting one row.
If only there was a meat shield nearby, then one could completely avoid being affected.
"There's still room for improvement," Kyle shook his head.
At this moment, Bellatrix had just snapped back to her senses. She couldn't believe that after just one encounter, half of her forces had been lost.
"You must die!" Bellatrix instantly made her judgment. Taking advantage of Kyle's engagement with the other Death Eaters, she swiftly raised her arm, and a beam of red light shot towards Kyle.
The curse moved at incredible speed, reaching Kyle in the blink of an eye. It was a sneak attack, and Bellatrix had excellent timing. She believed that Kyle would not be able to dodge it, not even with Apparition.
However, Kyle showed no intention of evading.
When the red light approached, the exquisite silver shield appeared once again, deflecting the curse back towards one of the Death Eaters on Kyle's side. The Death Eater didn't even have time to react before he fainted.
By this time, Kyle had already returned to Lupin's side, standing shoulder to shoulder with Sirius.
What they found strange was that Bellatrix did not launch another attack.
She just stood there, suddenly becoming dazed.
"This is impossible!" She screamed at Kyle, "This can't be! How can you use the Dark Lord's magic!"
She clearly remembered that during the fight over the Prophecy Sphere in the Department of Mysteries, Voldemort and Dumbledore had engaged in a fierce battle in the Ministry's atrium. At that time, the Dark Lord had used this Ironskin Charm, a shield-like spell, to block Dumbledore's attacks.
Bellatrix had thought that this was a spell only Voldemort could perform. She never expected to see it again, and on Kyle, no less.
Why Kyle? How could it be him? Bellatrix couldn't accept it.
She suddenly went crazy, frantically casting curses towards Kyle's location without any rhyme or reason.
For some unknown reason, Kyle didn't counterattack. He just stood there, smiling at Bellatrix. But whenever a curse came near, the silver shield would appear just in time, deflecting the attack onto a lucky Death Eater.
Kyle was so delighted that he almost laughed out loud. The more pleased he was, the more frenzied Bellatrix became, and the more curses she sent his way. These curses were all deflected onto other Death Eaters.
Now, Kyle was even happier.
It was as if a cycle had formed. He just stood there, and the surrounding Death Eaters were quickly eliminated by their own spells.
Until the Death Eaters realized what was happening and scattered to a safer distance, Kyle finally heaved a sigh of relief.
At this moment, Sirius had already taken the opportunity to rescue the injured Tonks couple and returned.
"Where's Professor Dumbledore?" He asked as he approached Kyle. "Wasn't he attending the wedding at noon? How come he's suddenly gone?"
"Professor Dumbledore had an urgent matter and has already left," Kyle replied without turning his head, sidestepping a green light.
Avada Kedavra, an extremely special Dark spell, greatly suppressed the effect of the Ironskin Charm due to its dual power of magic and malice. Kyle wasn't sure if he could block it, so it was better to be cautious.
But when he dodged, Bellatrix's eyes lit up. She seemed to have regained her senses and let out a scream, calling out to the surrounding Death Eaters.
At least twenty hooded figures flew over, forming a huge circle around Kyle, Sirius, and the others.
"Avada..."
Led by Bellatrix, the light from the Killing Curse almost illuminated the entire sky.
"It's over!" Lupin desperately grabbed Tonks' hand and turned to Kyle. "Run! Don't worry about us!"
With so many Killing Curses attacking together, there was no way they could escape. Even if they dodged the first wave, they wouldn't be able to avoid the second or third. Without support, it was only a matter of time before they were hit.
But Kyle was different. Lupin had also noticed that Kyle could freely use Apparition during the battle.
In other words, a situation that would be deadly for other wizards was nothing to him. He could easily jump out of the encirclement.
Unfortunately, among those present, only Kyle could do this. The others could only delay by constantly changing their positions.
The only consolation was that the Killing Curse wasn't as easy to use as other spells, and it took longer to cast, giving them some breathing room.
"I can't do it," Kyle shook his head.
"Listen, Kyle, this isn't the time for stubbornness!" Sirius said urgently. "Go! If we keep this up, we'll all die here."
"No, I can't," Kyle shook his head again, then added, "I mean it literally. The Killing Curse carries too much malice. In this situation, it's almost impossible to use Apparition, not even Professor Dumbledore."
"It's over!" Sirius felt a wave of despair.
He didn't mind his own fate; twenty years ago, he had already prepared himself for death. But Kyle was different. With his exceptional talents, his future achievements were limitless, and it was a shame for his journey to end here.
"Moony Face, get ready to fight!" Sirius clenched his teeth. "No matter what, we must get Kyle out of here!"
"No problem," Lupin said calmly, understanding Sirius's unspoken plan.
The three of them, including Tonks, instinctively moved to Kyle's side, ready to shield him from the Avada Kedavra curses.
With Kyle's abilities, the three of them had three chances to escape the encirclement.
"Don't be so tense," Kyle said. "We have reinforcements."
"Reinforcements?" Tonks' eyes lit up. "Yes, the Ministry of Magic should have received the message by now, and the Aurors will be here soon."
"No, I'm not talking about the Aurors," Kyle shook his head.
"Not the Aurors? Then who? Dumbledore?"
"Something like that," Kyle looked up. "Oh, it's here. Remind me to prepare for the transformation."
What? Transformation?
Tonks hadn't processed what this meant when a golden-red figure suddenly appeared above them.
The Phoenix extended its claws, grabbing Lupin and Tonks by their shoulders.
At the same time, three Avada Kedavra curses sped towards them.
But the light of the curses only passed through a flame that appeared out of nowhere, and Lupin and Tonks, who were just there, disappeared in the firelight.
"Good, we made it in time," Kyle sighed in relief, grabbing Sirius' shoulder. "Get ready..."
"Huh?" Sirius turned to Kyle in confusion, only to find himself in a different place.
In the distance, he could see the cottage and the partially destroyed decorations, but there were no Death Eaters around. A rough estimate suggested they were already a mile away.
"Apparition!" Sirius was stunned. "But you just said..."
"Yes, I can't use it," Kyle nodded. "But I have a tool."
He extended his hand, showing Sirius an unassuming ring on his finger.
The ring was so tightly fitted that it looked painted on, and one might not notice it unless they looked closely.
It was a birthday gift from Diana when he was in his first year, a magical tool that could store Apparition spells.
The greatest advantage of this tool was its immunity to external influences. As long as there was no anti-Apparition spell, it could be used freely, and the malicious intent of the Avada Kedavra curse was no exception.
"A magical tool?" Sirius blinked.
"What's wrong with that? If you're not strong enough, you equip yourself. It's like kryptonite. What's the problem?" Kyle gave Sirius a disdainful look. "You're a Black, and you need me to remind you of such a simple truth?"
Sirius felt his face heating up.
Using magical tools when you're outmatched was a valid strategy, and Kyle was right. Even a wizard like Godric Gryffindor had a sword forged by fairies that was indestructible. This was a normal occurrence in the magical world.
More common tools were things like Invisibility Cloaks, Flying Brooms, and the like, also meant for convenience.
These items could be said to have no flaws other than their high prices.
And the Blacks had an abundance of Galleons.
"Or," Kyle looked at Sirius with a smirk, "you think using these tools is dishonorable, and you want a fair duel with the Death Eaters?"
"Of course not!" Sirius quickly shook his head. "I just didn't know you had such a great tool... The Black family has never had a magical tool that could store Apparition. If word gets out, people will be fighting over it."
Kyle shrugged, neither confirming nor denying.
The Teleport Ring, let's call it that for now, was famous, even if it couldn't compare to the legendary Deathly Hallows.
But this wasn't the time to discuss such things.
Kyle looked at a few small black dots in the distance. "It seems the Death Eaters have spotted us. They'll be here soon. You should leave this place quickly."
Sirius was jolted awake by Kyle's words, ready to head back.
"No, you should leave. I need to save Harry and the others."
"There's no need."
Kyle stopped him. "What do you think Fawkes was doing when we were surrounded by Death Eaters? Having dinner?"
"The fact that it came to our side means that Harry and the others have already been rescued, and Lupin and Tonks were the last ones."
"As for where Fawkes sent them, I'm not sure, but it's definitely far from here."
