Chapter 79: Xuan Ming Fu Jun She You Wei
Chapter 79: Xuan Ming Fu Jun She You Wei
Time rarely waits for people.
As Lv Yang pondered, the darkness surrounding the distant Yellow Robe Elder had already spread to his side, carrying a fierce corrosive force.
Lv Yang lifted his head, observing his opponent with interest.
“So this is a Soulbound Wraith?”
The Wugui Sect had been an ancient demonic sect, where every disciple cultivated a personal Soulbound Wraith as the foundation for their future cultivation. However, when the Golden Core Sword Qi emerged, the Wugui Sect was annihilated. Without their masters’ control, these Soulbound Wraiths began wandering the Secret Realm, their ranks divided by the strength of their former hosts—White-Robed, Yellow-Robed, Black-Robed, and the most fearsome, the Red-Robed Ghosts.
The living inhabitants of the Secret Realm had complex origins. Some were descendants of the Wugui Sect’s former servants, while others were disciples who had abandoned their cultivation to survive the calamity.
The Secret Realm forbade cultivation entirely. The Golden Core Sword Qi targeted the Wugui Sect’s legacy, slaughtering anyone who practiced cultivation—even those at the Refining Qi stage. This was why Lv Yang, as an outsider, became a target of the Sword Qi. He narrowly escaped death upon entering the Secret Realm, though his current avatar remained trapped here indefinitely. To all intents and purposes, he was as good as dead.
The Wugui Sect’s fate was bitterly ironic. The ordinary survivors, unable to cultivate, became prey for the rogue Soulbound Wraiths. Those who once controlled spirits were now devoured by them.
“Yet humans always find a way through hardship.”
Over a thousand years, the Secret Realm’s mortals discovered a method to resist Soulbound Wraiths: “Harnessing ghosts to serve Yanluo.”
In essence, they used secret techniques to merge with a Soulbound Wraith, gaining its power even as they were consumed. The system’s founder, self-styled the Yanluo Patriarch, established the Tingyou Sect, which now dominated the Secret Realm with a structured hierarchy. Disciples were ranked by the ghost they controlled:
White-Robed Ghosts made “Ghost Enforcers,”
Yellow-Robed Ghosts produced “Luosha,”
Black-Robed Ghosts created “Wuchang,”
And those who mastered a Red-Robed Ghost became elders of Tingyou Sect, known as “Yanluo Walkers.”
“Quite the elaborate system.”
Though most practitioners died within a year, those alive wielded power rivaling even Refining Qi Perfection. The Yellow-Robed Ghost before Lv Yang was at the mid-stage of Refining Qi—a formidable foe.
Yet what intrigued Lv Yang most was sensing a faint, enigmatic energy from the ghost, akin to a Status Rank fragment.
“It feels like… a fragment of a Supreme Divine Ability.”
Similar to the shards composing a Supreme Divine Ability, though vastly weaker. Lv Yang seized the ghost, instantly refining it.
“Definitely tied to Status Rank, but not yet at Foundation Building.” He deduced that the Soulbound Wraiths in the Wugui Secret Realm were fragments of a Supreme Divine Ability.
With a thought, he summoned the Ten-Thousand Spirit Banner. The Yellow-Robed Ghost was absorbed into the banner, becoming a new banner spirit. A strange expression crossed Lv Yang’s face.
“An unexpected boon indeed!”
The Soulbound Wraiths carried traces of Status Rank energy linked to Supreme Divine Abilities. With his Ten-Thousand Spirit Banner, he could assimilate them, reassembling these fragments into a full Supreme Divine Ability to aid his breakthrough to Foundation Building.
Excitement surged within him.
“The people here suffer endlessly from these ghosts. Being a compassionate soul, I’ll graciously relieve them of this burden.”
He turned to the unconscious boy. Extracting memories from a mortal left no lasting harm, and he even left behind a martial cultivation technique as compensation.
“Truly, a man of virtue.”
Suddenly, a voice echoed from the distant sky.
Lv Yang looked up to see a black-robed figure riding a cloud, flanked by two pages, a dozen concubines, and a procession of black-and-white-clad attendants playing music and dancing.
“You there—where are the Soulbound Wraiths?” the Black Robe Daoist demanded. “Are you the informant? Where is the Ghost Enforcer?”
Lv Yang glanced at him. “Dead.”
The Ghost Enforcer had been slain by the Yellow-Robed Ghost, forcing the boy to hide in ruins.
The Daoist frowned, signaling a page to produce a mirror that shone on Lv Yang. Unfazed, Lv Yang let the light strike him, knowing it revealed his true nature.
The Daoist sneered. “An outsider! You killed the Ghost Enforcer and stole his Soulbound Wraith. Today, I’ll end you!”
“I’m the heretic?” Lv Yang mused. “A minor sect’s disciple dares call me a rogue? How absurd!”
The Daoist, however, saw outsiders as weaklings. Many wanderers had entered the Secret Realm, but none surpassed Refining Qi Mid-Rank. Facing the mighty Tingyou Sect, they were mere insects.
Confident, he summoned his Black-Robed Ghost, the “Namehunter Wraith.” Once it locked onto a target, it divined their true name, allowing the Daoist to call it out and steal their soul.
Lv Yang felt the divination attempt.
“Testing fate?” He obscured his karma with a spell.
“What’s happening!?” The Daoist panicked as his Wraith failed.
“Pathetic,” Lv Yang sighed. “Not even Foundation Building-tier opposition. I prefer crushing weaker foes.”
Realizing his defeat, the Daoist invoked a red-wax statue, igniting three incense sticks. Green flames erupted, and the statue transformed, radiating divine power.
“Who dares defy our sect?” the statue boomed.
Lv Yang studied it. To ordinary eyes, it was a living deity. To him, the true power was the arcane light beneath his feet, inscribed with seven ancient characters forming the Supreme Divine Ability he sought:
[Xuan Ming Fu Jun She You Wei]!
