Chapter 79: Return to the Camp
Chapter 79: Return to the Camp
At the Konoha camp on the front lines in the Land of Grass, after annihilating the Sand Ninja's ambush, Feng Ye had no intention of further exploration within the Rain Country. Although he was curious about Nagato's Rinnegan, it wasn't something he could afford to focus on at the moment.
After all, Uchiha Madara was still alive and keeping a watchful eye on the Ninja World, and Nagato was under similar surveillance. It wouldn't be wise to get involved with the hidden secrets of this world prematurely.
"Feng Ye, it seems your mission was a success," said Orochimaru, who was studying something in his tent. He noticed the Kusanagi sword hanging at Feng Ye's waist as he entered and smiled.
Feng Ye nodded, "Your intelligence was spot on, Master."
Orochimaru fixed his gaze on the Kusanagi sword at Feng Ye's waist for a few seconds before asking, "May I have a look at that Kusanagi sword?"
Feng Ye drew the Kusanagi sword and handed it to Orochimaru.
Orochimaru took the sword, known as the Amenomurakumo, and examined it with interest. He infused it with a thread of chakra and tested it with a few swings before commenting, "It's the real deal. There's no doubt about it."
Feng Ye asked thoughtfully, "How many Kusanagi swords are there in total?"
Kusanagi wasn't the name of a specific sword but a collective term for many blades.
Feng Ye had heard of the name Amenomurakumo and believed it to be the sword Sasuke held, which also matched its appearance. Orochimaru's words confirmed his previous suspicions.
Orochimaru returned the Amenomurakumo to Feng Ye and explained with a light smile, "Legend has it that there were originally eleven Kusanagi swords, but eight of them were lost, leaving only three. However, this rumor cannot be confirmed, and for now, we can only be certain of the existence of these three."
"They are the Sword of Totsuka, Amenomurakumo, and the Kubikiribocho."
Feng Ye was not surprised by Orochimaru's answer as this information was already known to him. The only unexpected detail was that only three swords existed, just like in the original story, with no others.
Orochimaru continued, "The Sword of Totsuka is in my possession, as you've seen. It has the power to freely transform and adjust its length, and it can be manipulated according to the owner's will."
"The one you have is the Amenomurakumo, renowned for its exceptional durability and sharpness. It is also highly compatible with chakra flow, making it adaptable to almost any ninjutsu."
"The last one is the Kubikiribocho, also known as the 'Wine Cutter.' According to records, it's a sealing sword capable of sealing away anything it pierces..."
Feng Ye was already aware of this information.
He gently ran his finger along the sword's edge.
Of the three Kusanagi swords, the sealing technique of the Kubikiribocho posed a certain threat, and the Sword of Totsuka was a bit flashy. However, the Amenomurakumo in his hand was the most suitable for him.
Ever since his battle with Kiba, he had felt that the Amenomurakumo's capacity for Lightning Release chakra was even higher than that of the White Fangs, a Ninjato!
What he meant by capacity was the level of depletion.
When ordinary kunai were infused with Lightning-attribute chakra, due to the poor quality of the metal, this portion of the Lightning chakra could only unleash less than 20-30% of its power.
On the other hand, the White Fangs, when infused with Lightning-attribute chakra, could unleash 70-80% of its power, making its chakra utilization efficiency comparable to that of directly casting ninjutsu.
The Amenomurakumo was even better!
It could achieve over 90% efficiency, with minimal depletion!
This was also one of the reasons why Feng Ye was still able to use the 'Flash' technique even after obtaining the sword, despite his Hatake Clan swordsmanship being affected.
While his swordsmanship had been impacted by the change in weapon type, the increased chakra efficiency meant that the overall effect on his strength was negligible.
"I see..." Feng Ye responded with a look of enlightenment, even though he already knew what Orochimaru was telling him.
A slight curve formed at the corners of Orochimaru's mouth as he said, "That Kusanagi sword suits your abilities well, but you may need to make some adjustments to your Hatake Clan swordsmanship."
Feng Ye nodded, "Yes, it's a bit uncomfortable switching from a short dagger to a longsword, but since they're the same type of weapon, making some alterations shouldn't be too difficult."
This was just a casual question. Given Feng Ye's swift return, it seemed his journey had been smooth, without any unforeseen incidents.
However, after asking this question, Orochimaru saw a thoughtful look on Feng Ye's face, as if he was choosing his words carefully. "Well..."
A moment later, Orochimaru stared at the pile of metal tags on the table, his eyes widening in surprise.
Feng Ye had tossed all the metal tags onto the table and spread his hands helplessly. "...That's the gist of it."
Silence fell in the tent.
The two Konoha jonin standing beside Orochimaru were stunned.
There were almost a hundred metal tags on the table. If these weren't forgeries, it meant that Feng Ye had single-handedly taken down a hundred Sunagakure ninjas!
Even if they were all genin, the number was still staggering.
"...If the situation is as you judged, your achievement this time is even greater than your previous battle," Orochimaru said softly after a few seconds.
Single-handedly annihilating a surprise attack unit from Sunagakure, which had attempted to bypass the Rain Country and strike the rear of the Konoha frontline camp, was an act worthy of a hero, even without considering anything else.
But Feng Ye didn't show any signs of pride or arrogance. "It was just a coincidence."
In his eyes, none of the achievements on the battlefield mattered as much as improving his strength. That was the key to everything.
"By the way, there's one more thing."
Feng Ye threw a scroll to Orochimaru. "I collected some blood samples from the Scorch Style ninja. I thought you might want them."
Ordinarily, Orochimaru would have been very interested in bloodline limit samples, but ever since he learned of Feng Ye's ability, his enthusiasm for researching other bloodline limits had diminished significantly.
However, he was a collector at heart.
And the blood sample from a Scorch Style bloodline limit user was one of the few he lacked.
"Well done. I'll inform the village of your accomplishments," Orochimaru said, taking the scroll and smiling. "By the way, the Third Hokage gave you new orders a day ago. You're to head to the frontline camp in the Wind Country. You can leave now if you're ready."
Feng Ye shrugged helplessly. "No rest for the weary, huh?"
He wasn't surprised by the order.
Unless Namikaze Minato suddenly went on a rampage, crushing Sunagakure and forcing them into a devastating defeat, he would likely be sent to the Wind Country as long as the situation remained stalemated.
In fact, he wanted to leave the battlefield temporarily and find a quiet place to cultivate for a while. But doing so during a time of war would be considered desertion, and he wasn't ready to leave Konoha yet.
On the one hand, there was Kakashi, Kurenai, and the others.
On the other hand, the only threats to him in the ninja world at present, aside from the half-dead Uchiha Madara, were right here in Konoha—Namikaze Minato, with his annoying combination of the Dead Demon Consuming Seal and Flying Thunder God, and the already-weakened Uchiha Obito.
Moreover, he had his own plans for staying in Konoha.
"Taking out a surprise attack unit from Sunagakure is no small feat. Some rest and waiting for new orders from the village won't be a problem," Orochimaru assured, rolling up the scroll.
Feng Ye exhaled. "Then I'll take my leave and get some rest."
He hadn't been able to sleep soundly on the journey, and he felt a bit weary. He needed to catch up on his sleep.
