Chapter 79: Quidditch Match
Chapter 79: Quidditch Match
Saturday morning,
Wearing a green and white Slytherin scarf, Jerry walked into the Great Hall as usual.
As soon as he stepped inside, his eyes lit up, and the rich aroma of grilled sausages filled his nostrils.
Among all the breakfast options at Hogwarts, he favored the sizzling, meaty sausages the most. They were packed with real meat.
He used the "Brain Booster" function extensively every day, which not only consumed Little Red Stars but also drained his energy.
So, if possible, he hoped to have meat at every meal, along with high-sugar snacks and drinks to replenish his daily energy expenditure.
If other young wizards observed Jerry closely during meals, they would notice that, despite maintaining an elegant demeanor, he consumed several times more food than a typical adult.
Even the voracious eaters like Goyle and Crabbe ate far less than half of what Jerry consumed.
This often resulted in Jerry being the last to leave the table if there were no pressing matters.
"Jerry, are you going to watch the Quidditch match today?"
As Jerry sat down, just before he could grab a sausage, Daphne across from him asked with anticipation.
"Of course, today's match is Slytherin versus Gryffindor!"
Jerry smiled and gave a definitive answer.
In truth, given his personality, he would prefer to spend that time studying Unforgivable Curses rather than watching young wizards play Quidditch on brooms.
He had had the Unforgivable Curses for a week but still couldn't successfully cast them.
However, he had no choice. As the Seeker for the Slytherin team, and since one of the teams in today's match was Slytherin, he had to participate.
Moreover, a couple of days after joining the Slytherin team, Snape had gifted him the latest Nimbus 2000, as promised.
Additionally, Snape's private tutoring had helped him resolve many doubts, significantly accelerating his magical progress.
"Here, take this. It's our Slytherin flag. We can wave it together to cheer for Slytherin!"
Upon hearing that Jerry would attend the match, Daphne immediately pulled out a green flag she had prepared and handed it to him with enthusiasm.
In most cases, when the house team was playing, almost no young wizard would miss the match.
However, Daphne still asked Jerry in advance.
This was mainly because Jerry's behavior sometimes suggested he might skip such events.
To all the Slytherin young wizards, Jerry was exceptionally outstanding, excelling in almost every subject and treating everyone with politeness, making him nearly perfect.
The only flaw was that Jerry rarely, if ever, participated in the collective activities organized by the Slytherin young wizards.
Except for the times he slept in class, whenever you saw Jerry, he was always reading a book.
The location varied—sometimes in the library, sometimes in the common room, and sometimes on the grass by the Black Lake at sunset.
In short, apart from studying, Jerry seemed to have no other hobbies.
It was precisely this attitude that earned Jerry the admiration of many Slytherins, including Draco Malfoy, who had been somewhat annoyed with him.
This led Daphne to believe that Jerry might not necessarily come to watch the Slytherin Quidditch match.
"Alright, thank you, Daphne!"
Jerry paused for a moment, then naturally took the green flag.
He would be playing in the match soon and wouldn't need the flag, but he had promised Marcus to keep his role as Seeker a secret, so he couldn't explain much.
At eleven in the morning, almost all the professors and young wizards had gathered at the Quidditch pitch.
On the stands surrounding the pitch in the east, west, north, and south, the young wizards of each house stood with their respective scarves.
Gryffindor's scarves were red and yellow, with red representing fire and symbolizing bravery.
Slytherin's scarves were green and white, with green representing water and symbolizing pure blood.
Hufflepuff's scarves were yellow and black, with yellow representing earth and symbolizing kindness.
Ravenclaw's scarves were blue and white, with blue representing air and symbolizing wisdom.
To ensure the young wizards could see the match clearly, some stands were lifted into the air using powerful levitation charms, though many still brought binoculars.
In the middle of the stands, there were some wooden towers that were a bit taller than the regular stands. These towers housed the professors, commentators, and some wizards from Hogsmeade Village who had come to watch the match.
"Looking for someone?"
On the Slytherin stands, Pansy noticed Daphne looking around, seemingly searching for someone.
"Jerry. He said he would come to watch the match this morning, but I haven't seen him yet!"
Daphne frowned.
She had been looking forward to cheering for the Slytherin team with Jerry.
Pansy chuckled, covering her mouth.
"Jerry? You know him, he might have gotten lost in a book again. Remember the Halloween Feast?
Don't worry, Quidditch matches usually last two or three hours. He'll definitely show up before the match ends!"
"Alright!"
Daphne nodded, turning her attention to the center of the pitch.
Meanwhile,
In the Slytherin team changing room, Jerry, already dressed in his green Quidditch robes, stood calmly at the entrance.
"Jerry, don't be nervous. As long as you can perform at a fraction of the level you did last time, we'll definitely win!"
Captain Marcus, who looked somewhat anxious, encouraged Jerry.
While Jerry's previous performance had stunned Marcus, he knew that private training and actual match conditions were different.
After all, on the real pitch, with so many people watching, it was easy for one's performance to drop significantly if they lacked mental fortitude, or even to become too nervous to play.
And Jerry was just a first-year, no matter how talented. Having never played in a match before, Marcus was still a bit worried.
Especially since Jerry had never attended their training sessions.
"Captain, you look more nervous than I am. Don't worry, I won't let you down!"
Jerry gave Marcus a reassuring look.
He didn't have time to waste two or three hours. The sooner the match was over, the sooner he could get back to his magical studies.
