Chapter 79: Iizumi and Obito (Extra Chapter – Request for Continued Reading)
After a few seconds of silence, Uchiha Obito let out a sudden, stifled laugh, shaking off the unwarranted doubts clouding his mind.
He hadn’t expected to run into Uchiha Iizumi so soon.
After all, every time he returned to Leaf Village, he’d always remained undetected.
The so-called tightly monitored Leaf Village was, in reality, nothing more than a massive sieve.
Given enough time, he’d eventually uncover the true nature of Uchiha Iizumi’s Mangekyō Sharingan.
Yes.
Obito had already marked Uchiha Iizumi as a prime target for surveillance.
The grudge from that near-fatal encounter with the man—still fresh in his memory.
“Rin…” Obito murmured, voice low and distant. “Everything is unfolding exactly as I planned. Not much longer now, I’ll forge a new world. A world so beautiful, it will surpass anything you’ve ever known. A world far, far better than this rotten Ninja World.”
His gaze flickered toward the withered white flower he’d discarded.
“In that new world, you’ll live. And our bond… it will be deeper than anything we have now.”
“Wait for me, Rin.”
…Hmm?
Suddenly, Obito’s expression shifted. His eyes snapped sharply to the left.
He felt it clearly—the two White Zetsu Clones he’d stationed around the area had just died.
That was impossible.
Not even Root ninjas or Anbu Ninja had managed to detect the White Zetsu Clones embedded in Leaf Village.
Who was this intruder?
Obito’s guard instantly rose.
Tap… tap… tap…
Light footsteps echoed through the night. The intruder wasn’t hiding.
Obito surmised the figure knew that killing two clones would inevitably expose him.
So instead of sneaking, he chose to appear openly.
Beneath the moonlight, a silhouette emerged—slowly stepping into view.
Obito’s pupils narrowed. A flicker of genuine shock flashed across his eyes.
Uchiha Iizumi?!
“Hoho…”
In an instant, Obito shifted his voice—low, gravelly, and distorted.
“I thought it was someone important… turns out it’s just a young Uchiha.”
He was currently posing as Madara Obito.
But then—
“Uchiha Obito,” Iizumi said softly, voice like a whisper from the grave, “after all this time… your sins have grown so deep, they’ve turned black.”
How… how did he recognize me?!
The thought screamed through Obito’s mind. Without thinking, he instinctively glanced toward the nearby tombstone.
Was it because of Rin’s grave?
“Child,” Obito sneered, already activating Kamui—his body flickering into a semi-transparent state.
He couldn’t afford to underestimate Iizumi’s eyes.
From the reports of the White Zetsu Clones, Danzō had been utterly broken—tormented beyond endurance.
That was the fate Obito feared most.
Only with Kamui could he feel secure.
But Iizumi was slightly taller. Obito disliked looking up at someone.
So—
He leapt lightly onto a nearby tombstone. Not Rin’s.
Now towering over Iizumi, he looked down with cold disdain.
“Old man, you’re speaking nonsense. I am no Uchiha Obito. I know of you—Leaf Village’s self-proclaimed guardian of justice, the beast of Molten Release in the Third Ninja War, the once-in-a-thousand-years genius of the Uchiha Clan… Uchiha Iizumi.”
“Hoho…”
Obito chuckled, deliberately revealing one of his Mangekyō Sharingan eyes.
“Don’t you wonder who I am, boy? A mere child of the Uchiha?”
But Iizumi’s expression remained unnervingly calm.
Obito’s bluff failed completely.
Instead of being fooled, he felt like a clown performing alone on stage.
Damn it!
Why won’t this guy play along?!
His identity as Madara Obito had even fooled the members of Akatsuki!
“Hmph. A child of the Uchiha Clan, yet so disrespectful?”
Obito sneered. “I am your ancestor—Madara Obito. You should know that name.”
Iizumi replied slowly, “You’re a monkey in a hat.”
“…What?” Obito frowned. He’d been a genin at nine—never received a full ninja academy education.
“Mrow~” Tachibana Jiro licked his paw, smirking. “Iizumi-sama says you’re a monkey wearing a hat, pretending to be human.”
He lifted his head proudly.
“In the presence of Iizumi-sama’s eyes, no disguise holds any weight! When he called your name, it meant he saw through your pitiful lie from the start!”
Obito’s forehead twitched. A vein pulsed violently.
His face flushed crimson.
—
Meanwhile, Hatake Kakashi—exhausted, his Anbu mask finally removed—had finally managed to track down Uchiha Iizumi’s whereabouts after questioning a Leaf Village ninja.
“Uchiha Iizumi? I saw him head that way not long ago. Probably went to the cemetery.”
The ninja eyed Kakashi curiously.
He couldn’t understand why anyone would seek out the Uchiha Demon willingly.
Didn’t they fear being targeted in return?
Leaf Village Cemetery…
Kakashi’s gaze dimmed. His thoughts drifted somewhere far away.
He shook his head slightly.
“Thank you.”
—
“…I don’t understand what you’re saying,” Obito muttered, mind racing.
How was my identity exposed?
Could it be Iizumi’s eyes?
But Sharingan wasn’t Byakugan—how could he see through the mask?
Coldly, he said, “Uchiha Iizumi, I admire your spirit. If you serve me, I’ll reveal the secrets of the Uchiha Clan… and the truth behind the Ninja World.”
Then—
“How long can Kamui’s distortion last?”
Iizumi’s sudden question made Obito’s face pale instantly.
Iizumi continued, voice calm and piercing:
“You activated Kamui before even meeting me. So you already know about my Mangekyō. I see… You hide your body in another dimension as your defense mechanism.”
…You!!
Obito froze. His heartbeat spiked. His breath caught.
His face was ashen, as if he’d seen a ghost.
How… how did he know about Kamui?!
That was his greatest secret—the ace up his sleeve across the entire Ninja World.
And now, it was laid bare—like a girl stripped of her dress.
A wave of dread surged through him.
His earlier arrogance shattered.
His palms were slick with cold sweat.
“Uchiha Iizumi…” Obito forced his voice steady, his eyes now blazing with murderous intent.
“Knowing too much… is death. You fought Danzō, didn’t you? You must be drained.”
