Chapter 789: She's Got It Going On
Chapter 789: She’s Got It Going On
Except for Kuro, the royal family members concentrating outside the main gates were all staring at Shirahoshi. Whether male or female, their eyes practically glowed with fascination.
“F-Father Officer…”
Shirahoshi felt dizzy under the intense scrutiny. Shrinking back instinctively, she curled her hands close to her chest, wanting to turn away.
“Holy crap!”
As she turned, Kuro caught sight of the movement and blurted out.
“What?” Lida, walking behind him, asked cluelessly.
“Hmm,” Kuro mused, chewing his cigar. “Back home, that’s how we express surprise. Roughly translates to…”
He stared at Shirahoshi. “She has this refined, gentle charm that stirs compassion. It’s different from Boa Hancock’s confidence. Boa Hancock perfectly lives up to her epithet, but this princess—her subtle smile and occasional shyness evoke a protective instinct. She’s like your neighbor’s maiden, smiling innocently by the window. That clean, pure vibe? It’s really something.”
Lida: “….”
Can two words really stretch into that much explanation?
Is Kuro’s hometown really that weird?
Shelz Town didn’t seem to have that many oddballs. She’d lived there too, and aside from Kuro himself, she’d never met anyone else who spoke like him.
Still, she couldn’t deny…
Shirahoshi really was stunning.
“Puhahaha! Kuro, you came too!”
Beside Shirahoshi stood a giant fishman officer nearly her height—tall enough to rival her—and he had bright orange hair and beard, along with a crown. Next to him, an old man in a navy uniform wearing a hooded cloak casually munched senbei from a snack bag.
“Garp,” Kuro acknowledged. “You’re assigned to escort the Fishman Kingdom?”
“Puhahaha, want some?” Garp offered him a senbei without answering.
“I’ll pass,” Kuro muttered, a blue vein throbbing on his temple.
You think I’m a monkey? Feeding me random snacks.
Lida, however, grabbed it and took a bite, crunching loudly.
“This is great!” Her eyes lit up.
“Right?!” Garp boomed. “If you want more, just tell the old man later—I’ll grab some from Sengoku.”
Why ask Sengoku?
Can’t you just get them yourself?
“Who’s this?”
The mermaid with orange hair and beard approached curiously.
“Oh, haven’t introduced him yet. This is Kuro,” Garp said casually.
“Kuro?” King Neptune narrowed his eyes. That name… sounded familiar.
“Oh! Jinbei mentioned him!” Neptune suddenly realized. “You’re Golden Lion!”
“G-Golden Lion?”
Shirahoshi clapped her hands over her mouth, stepping back. Her eyes widened in shock and fear, pupils turning into tiny circles.
“You mean… the Golden Lion everyone talks about?” The one who made Luffy swear, “I’ll beat him someday”? The man who made Nami and Robin smile tightly, their fear hidden but palpable.
“Huh?” Kuro noticed Shirahoshi’s strange expression. “What’s with this mermaid? Scared of me?”
“I-I…” Shirahoshi retreated further, tears welling up. She looked on the verge of crying.
“Cry?!”
Three oddly-shaped but otherwise normal mermaids rushed forward. “Sister! You mustn’t cry!”
Neptune turned sharply, alarmed. “Shirahoshi!”
“I-I’m fine, Father Officer. Brother Officer… I just…” Shirahoshi whimpered.
Kuro raised an eyebrow. Shirahoshi’s near-tears reminded him of something.
Oh right—she’s like a weapon.
But not a threat to him.
First, they were in Mariejois, too far from the sea. Second, he could fly himself out.
“Puhahaha! Kuro, you scared the mermaid!” Garp laughed. “Careful—the royal family might not like you if their princess gets upset.”
“Not my problem,” Kuro said, blowing smoke. He glanced at Shirahoshi again. “Though… she really is stunning.”
“Right? Right? Puhahaha!” Garp crunched senbei, grinning. “They say she rivals Boa Hancock’s ‘Snake Princess’ title. And the rumors about her beauty spreading topside? Totally justified! She’s even got… y’know…”
“??” Kuro blinked. “Garp, what exactly are you saying?”
The old man’s words again…
“Huh?” Garp asked innocently.
Kuro shifted his gaze to Shirahoshi’s chest, then shook his head.
Yeah, she’s got it going on.
In terms of sheer size, she’d beat Boa Hancock hands-down. But Garp, being an idiot, probably meant height.
“Why aren’t we going in?” Kuro asked, eyeing the closed gate.
“Waiting,” Garp shrugged. “Old man doesn’t know either—haha!”
“Hey, you’re Golden Lion?”
A man in a prince’s outfit emerged from the crowd—sleazy-looking, with a pouty mouth like a cheap inflatable doll and a bob haircut.
“I’m Stelly, King of Goa Kingdom in East Blue. I’ve heard of you—you’re a legend back home.”
Stelly? Kuro’s eyes narrowed, scanning him. “Who?”
“I’m a king of East Blue, a King!” Stelly barked. “You’re from East Blue too—shouldn’t you show some respect to your king? Even Garp’s my subject!”
“Puhahaha, old man’s from Goa Kingdom, yeah!” Garp scratched his head, laughing.
“So what?” Kuro bit his cigar, glancing at Stelly once before dismissing him.
A king? What’s that supposed to mean?
Stelly’s jaw tightened. Garp, this navy officer… they all treated him like trash. But whatever—he wasn’t here for that.
“Cutting to the chase!” Stelly leaned in, whispering. “Garp refused to help me. You’ll do it, right? Let’s both be world nobles. As fellow East Bluesmen, a little help? I’ll make it worth your while.”
Is this inflatable doll an idiot?
Kuro blinked, stunned. “What’s wrong with you? You wanna throw that away to become trash?”
Stelly paled, cold sweat drenching him.
What the hell?!
Are navy officers from East Blue just suicidal?
Back in Sabaody, Garp said the same thing. Now this navy guy too?
This was a death sentence for treason!
“Hey, Kuro, you can’t say stuff like that!” Garp roared, laughing.
“Oh? My bad,” Kuro shrugged, exhaling smoke. “Forget I said anything.”
The navy officers behind him nodded—it was routine.
Lida didn’t care. She’d heard this before. But Klah wiped his forehead nervously—this was Mariejois, after all.
Kas and Wilbur exchanged glances, eyes burning.
David clenched his fist, resolve hardening.
Ajitan, meanwhile, looked like a ghost—pale and trembling.
That was… a World Noble?!
