Chapter 786: Trelawney is Fired
Chapter 786: Trelawney is Fired
"Did you defeat the Dark Lord?" Luna stopped in her tracks, her voice tinged with surprise.
"Yes!" Ivan nodded, then teased, "What? Don't you believe me?"
"No, I believe you can do it..." Luna gently shook her head, her beautiful light blue eyes fixed on Ivan. In a dreamy tone, she continued, "That's truly remarkable! Father said the Dark Lord is probably the most terrifying wizard Britain has ever seen. Only the most courageous and fearless person could defeat him!"
Ivan rubbed his nose. He didn't feel he deserved the title of courageous and fearless; his victory over Voldemort was largely due to the System's assistance.
"Don't praise me, Luna. That day, I only managed to wound him. I couldn't kill Voldemort, so I'm worried he might target my family or close friends to exact revenge or threaten me", Ivan explained.
"Oh, I see. I'll be careful..." Luna nodded seriously.
"Just being careful isn't enough", Ivan said, his tone more serious. "I learned a type of Magic Mark that can establish a connection between two wizards."
"Regardless of the distance, we can communicate at any time. Additionally, if necessary, I can sense your location and Apparate to you..."
Ivan explained the various functions of the Magic Mark in detail. After some hesitation, he also mentioned the drawbacks, candidly telling Luna that he could exert a certain degree of control over those who bore the mark. Since Luna was one of his few close friends, Ivan didn't want to deceive her. He wanted to give her the choice—especially for her own safety.
However, after explaining the Magic Mark's effects, Ivan felt somewhat uneasy. The most famous Magic Mark in the Wizarding World was the Dark Mark, and the similarities were too striking. He was concerned that Luna might make the connection...
This was why he hadn't told Hermione about the Magic Mark until now.
Luckily, Luna didn't seem to mind the potential restrictions of the mark. Instead, she asked with interest, "So, if the Dark Lord comes after me, you'll help me drive him away, right?"
"Of course! No matter who it is, if you're in danger, you can activate the mark, and I'll appear right in front of you!" Ivan promised firmly.
"Then what are we waiting for?" Luna, delighted, rolled up her right sleeve and extended her pale wrist to Ivan.
The process of imprinting the mark went smoothly. A vibrant diamond pattern soon appeared on the girl's fair wrist.
Luna, fascinated, touched the Magic Mark, which felt like a tattoo, and followed Ivan's instructions to input magic, trying to communicate with him telepathically.
On their way to the Great Hall, the two of them communicated silently in this manner.
Ivan found this mind-to-mind conversation equally intriguing.
As they neared the start of class, the young witch finally lost interest and broke the mental connection.
Due to the O.W.L. exams, the fifth-year students had a particularly heavy course load each week.
Despite Ivan's lack of enthusiasm for exams, he still filled his schedule to the brim to maximize his House Points.
The long morning passed smoothly, and the only thing that surprised Ivan was that Umbridge had been discharged from the hospital early. Even with the lingering redness and swelling on her cheeks from her fall, she insisted on returning to work, her dedication almost embarrassing.
Of course, in Ivan's view, Umbridge was likely unwilling to relinquish her important position as High Inquisitor. If she were to take an extended leave, the Ministry of Magic would undoubtedly send someone else to replace her.
The mysterious fall down the stairs clearly infuriated Umbridge.
Adding to this, the castle was abuzz with rumors that Trelawney had cursed her. As soon as she returned to Hogwarts, Umbridge swiftly concluded her review of the professors, distributed a questionnaire to all the students, and announced that the Ministry of Magic would fire the worst teacher!
However, Trelawney herself seemed entirely oblivious to this, perhaps not believing she would be considered the worst.
Unfortunately, the results of the questionnaire were released the next day, and Trelawney was overwhelmingly voted the worst teacher by the majority of the students.
Umbridge was extremely satisfied with this outcome and, without delay, burst into the Divination classroom, enthusiastically informing Trelawney in front of everyone that she could pack her bags and leave immediately!
"No, this can't be... sixteen years... sixteen years of dedicated service... you can't humiliate me like this!" Trelawney screamed in shock, her eyes wide and her body trembling with sobs as she received the notice.
"Clearly, you didn't foresee your dismissal, did you? This shows that your Divination isn't as useful as you claim..."
Umbridge sneered, feeling a twisted sense of satisfaction at Trelawney's distress. She continued in a shrill voice, "Perhaps you have no real talent and only managed to secure your position at Hogwarts by deceiving the headmaster..."
"How dare you slander my Inner Eye!" Trelawney glared at Umbridge with such intensity that, if looks could kill, Umbridge would have been torn to pieces.
However, Umbridge paid no heed and forcibly escorted Trelawney out of the classroom.
Sitting in the corner of the room, Ivan watched Trelawney being led away, feeling a bit surprised.
While he had anticipated that his prank on Umbridge might affect Trelawney, he hadn't expected Umbridge to act so quickly, managing to bypass the Ministry of Magic's cumbersome procedures and obtain Fudge's authorization to fire a Hogwarts professor in just one day.
"Let's go, we should see what happens next!" Ivan stood up and said to Hermione and the others.
Although he knew Trelawney would still be fired even if he did nothing, he felt some responsibility for the situation and couldn't just sit by and do nothing.
Hermione, Harry, and Ron hurried after him. By the time they reached the Great Hall, it was already crowded with onlookers, a sea of heads, and even a few professors who had received the notice had come to see what would happen.
