Chapter 786: The Imminent Sacrifice Demon
Chapter 786: The Imminent Sacrifice Demon
"The effect of the Sacrificial Demon!" Bercas laughed loudly, "Absorb the Red-Eyes Black Dragon as well!"
In the anime, the Sacrificial Demon had no limit to the number of monsters it could absorb, but it could only absorb once per turn. Furthermore, the attack power of all absorbed monsters would be added together. And each time it was destroyed in battle, one of the equipped monsters could be used as a shield.
This was truly an all-rounded monster, Bercas' proudest creation.
With the power of the Red-Eyes Black Dragon before him, his Sacrificial Demon would become even more invincible!
"That's a nice thought!" City Within's interruption, "I activate my Set card!
Continuous Trap Card, 'Dimensional Gateway'!"
The Set card on City Within's field flipped. As the trap activated, a massive blue dimensional vortex appeared on his field, capturing the Red-Eyes with its powerful gravity, trying to suck it in. The deep blue waves seemed to lead to an unknown dimension.
"The effect of Dimensional Gateway allows me to select one face-up monster on my field and remove it from play!" City Within explained, "I choose to remove the Red-Eyes Black Dragon from the game!"
"Oh?" Bercas narrowed his eyes with interest, "You're willing to give up your ace so easily to avoid my Sacrificial Demon? Are you that afraid of it?"
He was well aware of City Within's plan. Monsters removed by Dimensional Gateway were not permanently banished to another dimension; as long as this Continuous Trap left the field, the monster could return.
And when the opponent directly attacked, the face-up Dimensional Gateway on the field could be sent to the graveyard, allowing the banished monster to revive.
The effect of the Sacrificial Demon could only be activated during the Main Phase, not the Battle Phase. So, as long as Bercas attacked City Within's empty field, he could re-summon the Red-Eyes as a shield.
No matter if Bercas chose to directly attack and destroy the Red-Eyes or waited for the Main Phase 2 to absorb it, this turn would still be considered a close call.
"Heh, not bad for a defensive strategy."
Bercas chuckled softly.
"But you're still too inexperienced!"
With a wave of his arm, the Set card on his field responded.
"Quick-Play Spell, 'Cyclone'!" Bercas revealed the spell card in his hand, "Destroy one Spell or Trap Card on the field!
I destroy the Continuous Trap, 'Dimensional Gateway'!"
A black storm engulfed the dimensional vortex, and black lightning struck, reducing the Dimensional Gateway to nothing.
"Although sending Dimensional Gateway to the graveyard would allow the banished monster to return, as a Continuous Trap, destroying it before its effect activates is enough."
Bercas smirked.
"Therefore, the effect of Dimensional Gateway is not processed, and it is directly destroyed."
"Nani?" City Within was shocked.
Damn you, Bercas, for being so troublesome, even sealing off the escape route of banishment. "Hahahaha—"
Bercas laughed triumphantly.
"Nice try, City Within Boy, but accept it! The Red-Eyes is mine!"
In the end, City Within's defense was broken, and the Red-Eyes Black Dragon was completely absorbed into the Sacrificial Demon. After a final dragon's roar, the Red-Eyes was also devoured by the chaotic black mist, its roars abruptly cut short, and it became a part of the Sacrificial Demon's power, like a puppet on a string.
"This is truly the end. But dying at the hands of your soul, the Red-Eyes, and your friend, the Black Demon Dragon, is a fitting end.
Rest in peace, City Within Boy."
Bercas closed his eyes, paused mysteriously, and then smiled coldly.
"And then, as the messenger of light, be reborn once more."
"What?" City Within frowned.
But Bercas had no intention of explaining further. He shouted, "Sacrificial Demon, deliver the final blow to Akane Boy!"
The Sacrificial Demon's single eye opened, and a sinister green light burst forth. The Red-Eyes and Malevolent Devil Dragon, bound by dark chains, flew out together. Black flames and hellfire intertwined, and in an instant, it was as if City Within was about to be melted away.
The towering flames, spreading shockwaves, and flickering fire cast sinister shadows on the walls and ceiling, as if demons were laughing maniacally.
But just as the flames were about to reach City Within...
"Now, activate a Set card!" City Within's response is "Continuous Trap 'Monster Box'!"
A huge box appeared on the field in front of City Within, with several holes on top, like a whack-a-mole game.
"Monster Box, every time the opponent's monster attacks, you must guess the coin toss!" City Within explained, "If you guess correctly, the attacking monster's attack becomes 0!"
This was one of City Within's early survival traps, part of the Gambler's Coin Set.
To be honest, if it wasn't necessary, City Within wouldn't even want to use this card.
Because he had already made up his mind to prove himself.
But in the end, it still came down to the coin.
He realized that it had always been like this. Every time he encountered an opponent of a certain level, he would use all his skills, engage in a battle of wits, and when it came down to the crucial moment, he would always have to pull out dice and coins, like some kind of curse.
Read the Perfect Edition in Book 69! 6 = 9 + Book, the first release of this novel on the bar.
Perhaps this was the legendary "Desperation Dice" situation.
Oh well, coins be coins, he thought.
"Come on, Bercas!" City Within challenged, "Do you have the guts to compete with me using coins?"
"Finally, the legendary coin appears." Bercas chuckled, "But unfortunately, I'm not in the mood today, so I won't be playing your coin game."
"Nani?"
"Counter Trap 'Trap Interferer'." Bercas explained, "Can only be activated when the opponent activates a Trap Card during the Battle Phase. Negate the activation and destroy it!"
City Within: "!"
The only remaining defense on his field, the giant Monster Box, had a magical array-like pattern floating beneath it. The Monster Box gradually dissolved within the array until it disappeared without a trace.
"With this, it's truly over." Bercas declared, "Disappear, City Within Katsu!"
Boom!
The flames swept through like a burning storm, as if a tornado had passed by. City Within's figure, along with half of the field, was swallowed up, and the black flames soared into the sky.
"Well, not bad. But it's a pity." Bercas chuckled, "My duel is perfect. As I said, there's no change in the gap in strength since the Duel Kingdom."
Bercas's expression changed slightly.
Because he saw that as the black flames dissipated and the smoke cleared, City Within Katsu was still standing, stubbornly.
"What?" Bercas was taken aback, "Why? All your defenses should have been..."
"Not all of them."
City Within smiled and gestured to the next trap card.
"In the previous turn, I sent more than just the Red-Eyes to the graveyard. I also had this card.
'Light Guarding Sword'."
City Within waved the trap card.
"During your opponent's turn, remove this card from play. For the rest of this turn, your opponent cannot perform a direct attack!"
