Chapter 783: The Choice Between Wisdom and Family
Chapter 783: The Choice Between Wisdom and Family
[That makes sense!]
Bronze Eagle suddenly spoke, his gentle voice echoing in the confined space. Moments later, the heavy Bronze Door slowly opened.
Seeing the open door before him, Ivan was completely stunned, feeling a sense of absurdity.
He had spent over a week scouring the Restricted Section and couldn't solve the problem, yet Luna had solved it so easily?
And the answer was so... simple?
Luna, noticing Ivan's confusion, quickly explained, "Bronze Eagle's questions usually don't have fixed answers... as long as it thinks what you say makes sense, it will open the door for you..."
Listening to Luna, Ivan felt a mix of amusement and frustration. He realized he had been thinking about it the wrong way from the start. Bronze Eagle hadn't been deliberately targeting him.
He had been intimidated by the difficulty of the question and confidently believed he had the ability to explore the essence of Magic, so he had treated it as a test from Ravenclaw, a thousand-year-old challenge!
But the reality told him he had just been fighting a phantom battle...
Perhaps the person who set the question just wanted the Students to come up with various interesting answers?
Maybe even Ravenclaw herself hadn't understood the true essence of Magic, otherwise, the Restricted Section would have had related records.
"Helena was right, I really don't fit in Ravenclaw..." Ivan said with a sigh.
After this "test", Ivan realized one of his flaws: he lacked the Magic mindset, his brain didn't work the same way as Rowena Ravenclaw's, who lived a thousand years ago.
For example, if Bronze Eagle asked: What is the Essence of Water?
He would have given a scientific answer: Water is an inorganic compound made of hydrogen and oxygen!
But the actual correct answer—Water is the source of life!
At this, Ivan could only think, "Damn it!"
"Shall we go in, Ivan?" Luna looked at the open Bronze Door, her eyes full of curiosity, and asked.
"Sure, let's go in together!" Ivan gathered his thoughts, pushing aside the chaotic notions in his mind, and stepped in first.
Inside the Bronze Door was a very large study room, surprisingly well-preserved despite the thousand years that had passed, though it was covered in thick dust.
On the central old Redwood Table, there were many research manuscripts and Magic materials. The walls were lined with various Magic books.
Additionally, Ivan noticed that the Magic in this room was unusually active. With a thought, a flame appeared in his palm.
Although he had long mastered Wandless Casting, he had never felt such smoothness in casting Magic before.
"Exceptional Wisdom is humanity's greatest wealth..."
A dreamlike murmur echoed in the study room, interrupting Ivan's thoughts. He turned back and saw that it was Luna who had spoken.
The little witch was standing before a bluish-white stone tablet, gazing intently at the inscriptions.
Ivan took a few steps closer and realized the inscriptions were in Ancient Runes, and the text was incomplete, so he couldn't fully understand it.
However, combining Luna's words, it was clear that the inscription was Ravenclaw's famous quote—Exceptional Wisdom is humanity's greatest wealth!
However, what made Ivan feel a bit strange was that the surface of the stone monument had a deep crack, almost splitting it in two.
Ivan was certain this was not the result of natural weathering but rather the mark of a Magic attack.
This was quite thought-provoking. If no one had come later to vandalize it, then it must have been Ravenclaw herself who damaged the monument.
"Perhaps Rowena Ravenclaw didn't agree with the inscription in her later years..." Luna reached out and gently stroked the crack on the stone, speaking softly.
"Why do you say that?" Ivan looked at Luna with interest and asked.
"No particular reason, it just must be so..." Luna shook her head and said. "Otherwise, I can't think of any reason why Rowena Ravenclaw would have destroyed the monument..."
Ivan was at a loss for words.
Intuition, I suppose that's what it is...
If someone else had said this, Ivan would have thought they were talking nonsense, but Luna was an exception. Her intuition was almost a gift!
Moreover, Ivan had his own suspicions, so he nodded in agreement. "You might be right, Luna. The reason could be because of Helena..."
"You mean Lady Grey?" Luna asked curiously.
Ivan didn't intend to hide anything, so he immediately told the story of Ravenclaw's daughter, Helena, who had stolen the Crown to become smarter and more famous than her mother, leading to a near-breakdown in their relationship and ultimately a tragic end.
According to the legend, after her daughter went missing, Rowena Ravenclaw devoted all her energy to Magic research.
Ivan suspected that Rowena Ravenclaw, seeing the monument every day as she entered and left her laboratory, would think of her daughter who had betrayed her for superior Wisdom and, in a fit of anger, cast a spell at it.
"It seems Rowena Ravenclaw found something more important than Wisdom..." Luna gazed at the damaged monument, murmuring to herself. "Family!"
At this, Luna's mood became slightly somber.
Ivan understood that the Little Witch must have thought of her mother, who died in a Magic experiment, so he quickly changed the subject and invited Luna to search the laboratory together.
Due to the passage of a thousand years, many of the alchemical manuscripts in the laboratory had become blurred and illegible, making their search much more difficult.
Fortunately, the most critical research notes were stored in a jade box by Ravenclaw, and the ancient English and Ancient Runes on them were something Ivan had studied beforehand. With Luna's help, they quickly translated the relevant research notes.
"Here it is!" Ivan followed the description in the manuscript and found a large empty space at the back of the laboratory. He crouched down and began to channel some Magic.
Ahead, the pale blue floor tiles suddenly glowed, gradually forming a complex and intricate Alchemical Array.
With his knowledge of Alchemy, Ivan could see that the purpose of this array was to harness the Magic of the entire castle, likely used by Ravenclaw for high-intensity Magic experiments in the past.
This saved him a lot of preliminary work. With a bit of modification and the right materials for the Philosopher's Stone, he could create one of his own!
