Chapter 783: Charles's Castle (Second Update)
Chapter 783: Charles's Castle (Second Update)
"Jerry, what do you think?"
In the common room, Charles and Erik, who had been arguing, turned to look at Jerry.
Jerry pointed at Raven and the other six.
"I think we should ask for their opinions on this matter."
"We are willing to participate in this mission!"
Raven and the others exchanged glances and then spoke in unison.
All in their early twenties and living a hidden life, they also wanted to prove themselves and show that they were valuable.
"I hope you won't regret it."
Charles ultimately respected everyone's decision.
"Pack your things, we leave for the Soviet Union in half an hour to capture Shaw!"
"Good luck to you all!"
Watching everyone rush back to their rooms to pack, Jerry lounged on the sofa and offered his blessings.
Half an hour later, as Charles and the others departed in the supersonic plane developed by Hank, Jerry also vanished from the base.
When he reappeared, he was in Queens, New York.
He hadn't been deliberately evading Charles when he said he would go to New York; he truly needed to make a trip there.
Every time he entered a new universe, if he wasn't too busy, he would visit Queens, New York, to check if Has and Aisha existed there.
If they were living well, he would leave after a brief look.
If they were struggling, he would help them, providing whatever assistance he could.
Though the Has and Aisha in different universes weren't the same as those in the main universe, their souls were fundamentally the same. Jerry wouldn't hesitate to lend a hand if he could.
After all, it didn't take much effort on his part.
Two days later, when Jerry returned to the base, Charles and the others had already completed their mission. They hadn't captured Shaw, but they had caught the White Queen, Shaw's right-hand woman.
From the White Queen, they learned that Shaw planned to initiate the nuclear plan in the Caribbean Sea at the end of October, provoking the United States and the Soviet Union into a nuclear war to mutate humans through radiation.
However, during the two days Jerry and Charles's group were away, Shaw and his followers had raided the Cia base.
Shaw's original goal was to eliminate Charles and Erik, who might interfere with his plans. Not finding his targets, he killed several Cia agents, made some threats, and left.
This action thoroughly enraged the Cia's top brass, leading to the swift approval of Charles's request to take all the mutants to a secret location for training.
Jerry was aware of this situation but didn't intervene.
The Cia agents weren't his friends; their deaths were of no concern to him. As for Shaw, he couldn't kill him yet. Doing so could alter the outcome of the Cuban Missile Crisis, potentially affecting Jean's birth.
His presence and actions would certainly change some people's futures, such as Hank, Mystique, Logan, and the mutant Armand, who was supposed to be killed by Shaw last night.
But these were individual changes with no immediate impact on the world.
Shaw, however, was different. If Jerry eliminated him now, it would not only affect Charles and Erik's perception of the human government's upper echelons but could also erase a major historical event like the Cuban Missile Crisis.
The butterfly effect instantly spread across the globe.
If by some mischance, Jean's parents happened to meet and marry that year, resulting in Jean's birth, but were affected by the butterfly effect and missed each other, that would be awkward.
In front of a remote private estate in Victoria, Canada.
Erik looked at the massive castle and couldn't help but roll his eyes at his good friend Charles:
"My dear Charles, this is what you call a hellish life? It seems you really struggle to make ends meet!"
When choosing a training base for mutants, Charles turned down several secret training facilities offered by the Cia and insisted on using his family's estate.
What they didn't expect was that the abandoned house Erik referred to turned out to be such a large castle, complete with forests, lakes, and vast lawns.
"This is one of the legacies my mother left me. I rarely stay here."
Charles shrugged.
As a descendant of British nobility and the last remaining member of his family, the inheritance and wealth he inherited could rival most of the world's billionaires.
As everyone was about to carry their luggage into the castle, Jerry suddenly flew up and appeared above the entire castle.
"Shield!"
With a wave of his hands, a special wave of energy radiated from the castle, spreading outward until it completely covered the entire area before gradually dissipating.
"You can actually fly too?"
Jerry returned, and Erik's face was full of surprise. He had learned from Raven that Jerry seemed to have the ability to restore broken items, but he hadn't expected Jerry to also have the ability to fly. How many more unknown abilities did this mutant possess?
"You can fly too."
Jerry smiled.
Erik was momentarily speechless. He could indeed fly, but that was due to his ability to control magnetic fields, similar to magnetic levitation, and he hadn't fully mastered it yet. So, his control over metals and flight both stemmed from one ability.
Jerry's flight, on the other hand, was a completely different ability from his telepathy and item restoration.
"Jerry, what did you just do?"
Charles interjected, curious.
He wanted to know what Jerry had done by suddenly flying above the castle. Given his understanding of Jerry, Jerry wouldn't do anything without a purpose.
"You can consider it a special ability I cast over this area. Under its influence, only those with the dominant X gene can see this castle.
Those without the X gene, or those with a recessive X gene that cannot be awakened, will never see this castle and will be instinctively driven away when they get close."
Jerry briefly explained the effect of the shielding magic he had cast over the area.
In reality, he had temporarily modified the Muggle Repelling Charm and applied it to the castle. The Muggle Repelling Charm primarily drives away ordinary people who lack magical power, but the modified spell identifies X genes instead of magical power, which works on the same principle.
Considering that the mutant school was frequently invaded by government forces and students were often captured for experiments, Jerry thought adding a repelling spell to the school would provide some protection.
Jean Grey would spend a significant part of her life at this school in the future, and safety was essential.
