Chapter 781: Logan Howlett (Second Update)
Chapter 781: Logan Howlett (Second Update)
The passionate music and fiery dancing were a bit overwhelming for ordinary people.
However, after the initial curiosity, Jerry found the noise a bit too much. This environment wasn't particularly to his liking, but he had never experienced it before, so it felt interesting at first.
"Let's get down to business!"
Seeing Eric and Charles enjoying themselves, Jerry reminded them.
Charles nodded at Eric, who grinned and pulled out two dollar bills from his pocket, waving them at the attractive woman dancing in the center.
The woman's eyes lit up immediately, and she swayed her hips as she walked over, crouching in front of the three of them like a sinuous water snake.
"Big spenders can enjoy a private dance in the Vip Room!"
She emphasized the word "private", hinting at something more.
"Then let's go to the Vip Room."
Jerry increasingly felt the noise here was too much. A quieter place to talk business would be better.
The woman's face lit up with a smile. She flipped gracefully off the table and led the three men to the bar's large Vip Room.
Unlike the ordinary restaurant Vip Rooms with large tables and sofas, this characteristic bar's Vip Room was decorated with a lot of "mood." There was a bright red bed in the center and various drinks placed around it.
Even the glass opposite the bed was one-way, or semi-one-way.
Jerry could see everything happening in the main hall from the bed's opposite glass, but no one outside could see what was happening in the Vip Room.
At that moment, he understood the true purpose of this Vip Room. It seemed to be more than just a place for private dances, as the black-clad woman had suggested.
"Do you want to go one by one, or all three together? If all three, that will cost extra!"
The woman entered the Vip Room, walked to the red bed, and smiled at Jerry and the others.
"Never mind, you two can handle it. I'll wait outside the bar."
Jerry smiled, handed the task of recruiting the black-clad woman to Charles and Eric, and left the Vip Room.
Recruiting a mutant like the dance girl was actually quite simple. A job with a national government agency was already very attractive.
Thus, in the following days, Jerry, Charles, and Eric visited various nearby cities, looking for mutants who met their recruiting criteria.
There was a black driver who could evolve his body according to the environment, a young man who had locked himself in prison out of fear of hurting others with his powers, and a college student who could emit ultrasound.
However, just as Charles and Eric thought everything was going smoothly, they encountered their first setback.
"What's wrong? You two look unhappy. Didn't you find anyone?"
At the entrance of a small street bar, Jerry looked at the unhappy faces of Charles and Eric, showing a hint of surprise.
He had stayed out of the bar because he found it too noisy.
"We found him, but the guy doesn't want to join us."
Charles shrugged helplessly.
Jerry raised an eyebrow, and his telepathic power quickly covered the entire bar. Seeing the rough, bearded man sitting inside, he immediately understood the situation.
The only person who could make the telepathic professor Charles eat humble pie was probably Logan Howlett, who had lived for 130 years and experienced the Civil War, World War I, and World War II.
No matter how eloquently you speak, if I don't want to, I just don't want to. If you keep pushing, I'll kill you.
The young Charles, encountering the memory-retaining Logan, was like a scholar facing a soldier—reason couldn't be reasoned with.
"If his claws were made of metal, I would have taught him a lesson just now!"
Eric let out a cold snort.
When the two of them found their target drinking and invited him to join their team, the man told them to get lost. Before they could continue persuading him, two sharp bony claws appeared under their chins.
"His name is Logan, or rather, James Howlett, born in 1832. Not only can he grow sharp bony claws from his hands to kill enemies, but he also has an extremely powerful healing factor, making him virtually indestructible.
And he has extensive combat experience. I think you should try harder to recruit him."
Jerry shared Ron's intelligence with Charles and Eric.
He felt that if Logan joined Charles's team at this point, his fate would change, and he wouldn't have to endure such a miserable old age.
Awakening his powers by killing his biological father, then constantly getting dragged into wars with his half-brother Sabretooth, being deceived by Striker, losing his memory, and every woman he loved dying. In his later years, the Adamantium poisoning caused his healing factor to disappear, and he was brutally killed by a clone.
Wolverine's life was even more tragic than Thor's, a true born under an unlucky star.
If Charles had Logan at this point, Logan's superior combat skills and experience would be a significant asset in the upcoming battles.
Don't underestimate Logan's combat ability just because he hasn't been implanted with Adamantium and become the true Wolverine. With his will, experience, and healing factor, most mutants are no match for him.
Some mutants have powerful abilities, but without a strong mind to control them, they might even be subdued by ordinary people.
"Jerry, you really know a lot about many mutants' experiences and abilities."
Charles's eyes held a hint of something indescribable after listening to Jerry's account.
The reason he always tried to bring Jerry along when searching for mutants was that Jerry could casually provide crucial information they didn't know.
"Maybe it's because I've lived a long time."
Jerry shrugged and gave a casual excuse.
Charles, being a smart man, didn't press further and instead pulled Eric back into the bar.
Currently, Charles's telepathic ability could only roughly read people's surface thoughts. To access deeper memories, he needed to place his hand on their head.
So, when Charles tried to recruit Logan earlier, he didn't know Logan's personality or history.
Now, with Jerry having revealed all of Logan's background, the master psychologist Charles knew exactly how to persuade him.
Sure enough, twenty minutes later, Jerry saw Logan walking out of the bar with Charles and Eric.
