Chapter 78: Unforgivable Curses
Chapter 78: Unforgivable Curses
Descending the ladder, Jerry's feet soon landed on the soft, green grass.
He looked around the space within the Box and couldn't help but exclaim:
"Perfect!"
Above, a glowing orb floated, illuminating the entire Box. It was likely a magical item created using alchemy, similar to a small sun, combining the effects of Lumos.
The ground was covered in a lush green lawn, with designated areas for growing various precious herbs. Some of these herbs he recognized from A Thousand Magical Herbs and Fungi, while others were completely unfamiliar to him.
Next to the herb garden was a clear pond, and the surrounding area was dotted with trees, making it look like a mini mansion with a large yard.
Walking along the green lawn into the mini mansion, Jerry found himself in a classic English-style villa, typical in the wizarding world, with a hint of Victorian influence.
The entrance led to a long foyer, the floor covered in a purple carpet. Walking through the foyer, he entered the main hall, where a beautiful fireplace and intricately carved furniture caught his eye.
Clearly, Professor Quirrell was a fairly wealthy wizard.
The villa had two floors. The ground floor consisted of the foyer, main hall, kitchen, dining room, and potion laboratory.
The potion laboratory, or more accurately, the potion brewing room, was equipped with a complete set of expensive potion-making tools and a large cabinet storing various potion ingredients.
There were also several potions, both familiar and unfamiliar to Jerry, already brewed and stored.
It seemed that while Professor Quirrell wasn't a master potioneer, he had a considerable level of proficiency in potion brewing.
It made sense, as wizards who dabbled in Dark Magic usually had a high level of skill in potion brewing.
The second floor primarily housed three bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom.
After a thorough search, Jerry found a stash of a thousand gold galleons and a notebook containing Professor Quirrell's research on Dark Magic.
What surprised Jerry the most was that the notebook included Professor Quirrell's insights and notes on learning the Unforgivable Curses: the Cruciatus Curse, Imperius Curse, and Killing Curse.
It also contained information on the highly unpredictable Fiendfyre and some less common curses.
This was a truly valuable find.
In the Main World, Jerry had never worried about money, as his magical abilities made it relatively easy to earn.
However, in the wizarding world, where everyone had magic, and he was still a novice, obtaining a large amount of gold galleons was a bit more challenging.
He had considered using some financial and economic strategies to make money,
but he lacked expertise in these areas, and his age, time, and strength were not conducive to such endeavors.
As a first-year young wizard, his main focus was on learning magic, and he couldn't afford to leave the school.
Furthermore, disrupting the existing rules without sufficient power and support could have dire consequences.
Later, he thought about the Acromantulas in the Forbidden Forest. Their venom was a precious item, worth 100 gold galleons per pint.
However, considering that the Acromantulas were marked as Xxxxx-level dangerous in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them textbook, and their numbers, he decided to hold off for now.
While Harry and Ron managed to escape unharmed from the Acromantulas in the movies, they were the protagonists.
An Xxxxx-level danger rating was equivalent to that of a dragon, meaning that even a skilled wizard could face serious trouble if they encountered one alone and didn't react quickly enough.
Although Acromantulas may not be as powerful as dragons, they possess intelligence on par with humans and are highly social, with their venom being extremely lethal.
So, finding a thousand gold galleons in Professor Quirrell's box was a huge relief for Jerry.
Of course, compared to a thousand gold galleons, Professor Quirrell's Dark Magic notes were far more valuable.
Gold galleons could be earned with time and effort, but Unforgivable Curses, Fiendfyre, and Professor Quirrell's insights into advanced spells were priceless.
With Professor Quirrell's Dark Magic notes, Jerry believed that even without guidance, he could gradually master these spells with the help of Brain Boosters and time.
The Cruciatus Curse for interrogating, the Imperius Curse for mind control, the Killing Curse for eliminating threats, and Fiendfyre for clearing the battlefield—mastering these four Dark Magic spells would significantly enhance his magical prowess.
If he encountered an Abomination again, he might not need to fight it head-on; a single Imperius Curse could do the job.
"This is really worth it!"
After returning to the Room of Requirement, Jerry put the small box in his pocket. He felt that despite the risks and flaws in his plan to sneak into Professor Quirrell's office, it was more than worth it.
Without taking risks, how could he have achieved such a sudden wealth overnight!
After Halloween, thanks to the extensive promotion by the Slytherin young wizards, everyone knew that their Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Quirrell, had been severely injured by a troll. It was only thanks to the first-year Slytherin, Jerry Carmen, that he survived.
As a result, the wizards at Hogwarts now knew not only that a famous Harry Potter had joined the first year but also that there was an outstanding young wizard named Jerry Carmen in the first-year Slytherin class.
Jerry Carmen's name gradually spread from the first-year students to the upper years.
Even if many still didn't know who Jerry Carmen was, they at least knew his name.
Thus, the time came to November.
As November arrived, the weather became extremely cold. The mountains surrounding the school were gray and covered in snow, and the Black Lake's surface was as cold and hard as quenched steel. Every morning, the ground was frosty.
During this period, Jerry immersed himself in learning magical knowledge. He spent most of his time in the library researching various materials, aside from attending classes and eating meals.
He would also seek advice from Snape on magical principles he couldn't understand and discuss magical extensions and spell applications with Hermione.
At night, he would secretly go to the Room of Requirement to practice and study Dark Magic.
Occasionally, he would enter the mini mansion in the box space to try brewing potions based on recipes he found in the library.
In short, Jerry felt that every day was incredibly fulfilling. He was learning new things, improving, and growing stronger every day.
The only downside was the rapid consumption of Little Red Stars, but otherwise, everything was going well.
However, he had accumulated over fifty thousand Little Red Stars before this, so even with the fast consumption, it should be enough to last him until the end of the semester.
