Chapter 78: A New Addition to the Greenhouse
Chapter 78: A New Addition to the Greenhouse
In the afternoon, Kyle paid a visit to Hagrid's hut.
"Kyle, what brings you here?" Hagrid warmly greeted him and offered a plate of rocky skin cake, "Thank you for the gift, I really like it."
The dragon models were placed on the only table in the hut, and Hagrid had even installed a small fence around it to prevent them from falling off.
He was indeed very attentive.
Kyle declined the cake, shaking his head, "Hagrid, I can't eat anything right now."
"That's true, your stomach is probably already full of turkey and sausages," Hagrid didn't mind and took a bite of the cake, "What brings you here? I should tell you right away, I won't take you to the Forbidden Forest."
"I'm not going to the Forbidden Forest," Kyle said, "I came to ask if you know a wizard named Prince."
"Prince? I think I remember that surname..."
Hagrid paused for a moment, then slapped his forehead, "Sorry, Kyle, I might have caught a cold these days. My head feels so fuzzy, and I can't remember many things."
"Oh, right... Poppy asked me to find her after the feast."
Hagrid suddenly stood up and said hurriedly, "Sorry, Kyle, I have to go to the school now.
If I remember, I'll write to you."
"Alright," Kyle sighed in disappointment and followed Hagrid out of the hut.
It seemed that he could only wait for Chris to finish his tasks and ask him in a letter if he knew anything.
Apart from Hagrid, Kyle didn't plan to ask any other professors about this matter.
Professor McGonagall and the others were very tight-lipped. If this 'Prince' was indeed related to Snape, they would never reveal it even if they knew.
...
After returning to the castle from the hut, Kyle, with nothing else to do, went back to the library and continued reading the hardcover book he had borrowed that morning.
The book was a biography of a Dueling Master, recounting the legendary life of a true master.
According to the book, the master had never lost a duel since his first encounter with dueling, setting a record of 200 consecutive wins and 11 consecutive championships.
This record remains unbroken to this day, and even in Professor Flitwick's youth, he only managed a maximum of 115 consecutive wins.
However, the master's writing skills were not impressive. He rushed through complex and profound magical theories with brief sentences, leaving little room for analysis and understanding.
It was like solving a math problem; typically, after writing a 'solution,' you would need at least three to five formulas to derive the answer.
But this master was different; he didn't even write the solution, just directly provided the answer.
It was useful, but not very informative.
Additionally, while he offered tips on spellcasting in a teaching tone, they were rather vague.
"When facing a moving opponent, slightly rotate your wrist at the appropriate moment to cast the spell."
"To increase the range of your spell, slightly lift your wand upwards, but not too high, or it will go off course. Just follow your instincts."
"If you feel lost during a duel, ask your wand; it will guide you."
...
What is the appropriate moment...
What does following your instincts mean...
Kyle struggled to understand these phrases, but he couldn't bear to give up on the content. He could only try to interpret the author's intentions and then practice repeatedly in the Room of Requirement.
And this was also the most time-consuming task. Sometimes, due to ambiguous sentences, Kyle would spend an entire day or even longer in the Room of Requirement.
It wasn't a particularly thick book, and he only finished reading it as the holiday was about to end.
The day before school started, Kyle went to the library to return the book.
Mrs. Pinns took the book, checked it as usual, and put it away after confirming there were no issues.
Just as Kyle was about to look for another book on the nearby shelf, a cold voice suddenly came from behind him.
"I suggest you don't borrow this type of biographical book again."
"What?" Kyle turned around in confusion.
Mrs. Pinns sat in her chair, expressionlessly flipping through the hardcover book, "The content of this book isn't complicated, but you took two whole weeks to read it. Obviously, it's not suitable for you."
Kyle was a bit surprised. This was the first time he had seen Mrs. Pinns take the initiative to talk to a young wizard, and what's more, she was talking about something outside her work scope.
After coming back to his senses, Kyle hurriedly asked, "Do you mean my foundation is too weak?"
"No, your foundation in magic knowledge is very good. Judging from your borrowing list, you've even surpassed many third-year students."

Mrs. Pinns raised her eyes and said, "But to understand the biography of a legendary wizard, you need life experiences."
Kyle clicked his tongue. He couldn't argue with that.
He was only in his first year, and apart from interacting with magical creatures, he didn't have much life experience in other areas.
"If you really want to learn something, don't waste time on this kind of biography."
Mrs. Pinns extended her hand and pointed to a bookshelf not far away, "I suggest you go take a look over there."
Kyle hardly thought about it. As soon as Mrs. Pinns finished speaking, he walked towards that bookshelf.
Mrs. Pinns had spoken so much, so he might as well take a look first.
Moreover, he hadn't planned what book to borrow this time. Who knows, there might be something interesting there.
...
As it turned out, listening to advice was a good idea.
Five minutes later, Kyle returned with a thick book in his arms.
"The Evolution of Spells: Tracing Origins"
Mrs. Pinns' expression changed slightly, but it soon returned to normal.
After completing the borrowing process, Kyle didn't choose to stay in the library. Instead, he put the book back in his dormitory, planning to read it later in the evening.
Today was the last day of the holiday, and he still had some things to do.
Kyle first went to the Room of Requirement. As soon as he entered, a group of fluffy little creatures surrounded him.
Five Mooncrazed Beasts stared at him with their round, big eyes, all looking at Kyle in unison.
Kyle patted their heads one by one and asked, "It's daytime. Why aren't you sleeping?"
One of the Mooncrazed Beasts tilted its head and made a "Gugu" sound twice.
"Are you afraid of someone coming, so you don't dare to sleep?" Kyle said with a smile, "Rest assured, besides me, no one else will come here."
Hearing Kyle's words, the Mooncrazed Beasts finally returned to the cave built for them in the Room of Requirement.
