Chapter 779: We Will Reclaim the Casting Rights!
As Ivan and the others chatted and joked, they had already arrived at the base of the Whomping Willow, ready to enter the Shrieking Shack through the hidden passageway beneath it.
Before they even stepped inside, a cacophony of sounds greeted them. When Ivan pushed open the door, he was surprised to find that over a hundred young wizards had gathered for the class!
Judging by their school uniforms, most of the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff young wizards were present, along with a significant portion of the Ravenclaw and Slytherin students.
Ivan could easily guess that the castle was now mostly empty, which was why Ron had been concerned that Umbridge might notice something was amiss. After all, her eyes weren't blind.
The commotion at the door quickly caught the attention of the young wizards, and over a hundred pairs of eyes turned to gaze at them.
Standing at the front, maintaining order, were the prefects from each house.
Hannah Abbott, Ernie Macmillan, Anthony Goldstein, Padma Patil, and even Slytherin prefect Pansy Parkinson were there.
With Hermione and Ron, it was safe to say that all the Hogwarts prefects were present, except for Malfoy!
Feeling the weight of so many eyes on him, Ivan felt a bit overwhelmed. He had originally thought he was coming to guide a small study group, maybe two or three dozen people at most.
Thinking about this, Ivan looked at Hermione with a peculiar expression.
The young witch herself was a bit dazed by the bustling scene in the Shrieking Shack. She had only invited a few trusted friends and discussed the plan with the prefects.
While Hannah Abbott and a few others had assured her they would bring some students interested in learning Defense Against the Dark Arts, Hermione hadn't expected "some" to mean so many.
"Lord Hals..." Ernie Macmillan was the first to step forward, addressing Ivan with great respect.
Hannah Abbott and Pansy Parkinson echoed his greeting, their gazes a mix of flattery and discomfort.
In fact, over the summer, their families had instructed them to follow Ivan Hals's orders at school and to do their best to get close to him.
As close as possible!
At first, Hannah Abbott and the others were reluctant. After all, who wasn't the little princess of their family, especially with their good backgrounds? They were used to being the ones others tried to please, not the other way around.
But when they learned the reason behind the instructions, they were all stunned. They couldn't believe that their parents and families had aligned themselves with a fellow student, Ivan Hals!
And this classmate, whom they occasionally saw, had recently faced and driven off the infamous Dark Lord in a direct confrontation...
The shock of these two pieces of news left Hannah Abbott and Pansy Parkinson feeling a bit absurd, even suspecting that their parents might have been delusional or deceived.
Unfortunately, their families had given them strict orders to obey Ivan Hals at school!
Ernie Macmillan, on the other hand, knew more. His father had used a Pensieve to show him the events of that night, and the image of Ivan Hals slapping the Dark Lord away in front of hundreds of wizards was deeply etched in his mind.
So when Hermione mentioned forming a study group and having Ivan Hals serve as the professor, Ernie Macmillan took it seriously, putting in a lot of effort to bring most of the Hufflepuff young wizards along.
Ernie Macmillan's respectful attitude toward Ivan piqued the curiosity of the young wizards present.
However, Ivan did not want to reveal his past, so he waved his hand and said, "Relax, there's no need to be so formal. Just call me by my name while we're at school."
Hearing this, Hannah and Pansy both heaved a sigh of relief. They were, after all, Prefects at Hogwarts, and acting like his lackeys in front of so many people would be incredibly embarrassing.
Ernie Macmillan, however, remained respectfully formal. He had seen Ivan’s “true nature” in his memories and continued to behave with great caution, not daring to show the slightest bit of negligence.
"Pansy, what are you doing here? I didn't invite you or your friends..." Hermione had recovered from her surprise and now glared at Pansy Parkinson, demanding an answer.
She had never informed the Slytherin students about the study group and certainly hadn't intended to invite them.
After all, the two houses had deep-seated conflicts and couldn't trust each other yet.
"I don't need your permission, Granger. You're not the one in charge of teaching us!" Pansy Parkinson frowned and retorted.
The Slytherin students behind her also looked displeased. Many of them had been dragged there by Pansy Parkinson, and now, hearing Hermione's words, they wished they could turn around and leave immediately.
Hermione, however, remained firm in her belief that Pansy and her group were up to something nefarious, likely trying to figure out the purpose of their gathering to report back to Umbridge.
The two quickly began arguing in the Shrieking Shack, and the young wizards from Slytherin and Gryffindor drew their wands, creating a tense standoff.
"I believe everyone here has no ill intentions, Hermione!" Ivan interrupted Hermione and Pansy's argument with a serious tone.
"But they..." Hermione opened her mouth to protest.
"No buts..." Ivan cut her off again, raising his voice slightly. "Don't forget, we are facing the threat of the Dark Lord. We must all unite, and there are no house divisions here!"
Ivan's words reminded Hermione of the Sorting Hat's warning at the start of the year, and she nodded, putting aside her hostility toward Pansy Parkinson.
The tense atmosphere in the Shrieking Shack eased somewhat due to Ivan's words.
Only Ernie Macmillan and a few others looked at Ivan with peculiar expressions. If they were not mistaken, the Dark Lord had already been defeated by him, hadn't he?
Ivan ignored their doubts and turned to address the more than a hundred wizards.
"Welcome to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Association that I have founded!"
"Due to the short notice, your Prefects might not have had the chance to explain the purpose of this Association. Let me summarize it briefly—I created this Association with one goal in mind: to reclaim our casting rights from the Ministry of Magic!"
