Chapter 778: Rebuilding the Duel Club
Chapter 778: Rebuilding the Duel Club
"Do you plan to establish a student association?" Ivan looked at Hermione with surprise and asked.
"More precisely, a study group!" Hermione corrected him. "I've already asked around, and many people are willing to join. We just need a qualified person to teach us!"
"So, you want me to be the Professor?" Ivan, of course, understood Hermione's implication and chuckled.
"Yes! In our first year, you defeated Quirrell, who was under the control of the Dark Lord. Last year, you single-handedly subdued a massive Dragon, accomplishing things even Professors couldn't. There's no one more suitable than you, Ivan!" the young witch spoke with enthusiasm.
Many people had joined the study group she formed earlier because of Ivan's reputation.
With that, Hermione took a deep breath and looked straight at Ivan with her brown eyes. "If there's anyone who can defeat Voldemort, I believe it's you, Ivan!"
Ivan wasn't swayed by the young witch's flattery. Instead, he looked at Harry with a hint of awkwardness, knowing that, according to the Prophecy, Harry was the one destined to defeat Voldemort.
"Oh, sorry, Harry..." Hermione noticed Ivan's gaze and quickly apologized.
"No, you were just speaking the truth, Hermione!" Harry waved his hand, indicating he didn't mind. He never thought of himself as special.
The reason he could hold his own against Voldemort in the graveyard was entirely due to the subtle connection between their wands. Or perhaps it was just his luck.
But luck alone wouldn't be enough to defeat Voldemort, so Harry agreed with Hermione's assessment.
"Alright, I can be the Professor, but I'm quite busy lately and need to research some things. I might not have much time to spare. Let's have the study group meet once a week, perhaps on Sunday mornings." Ivan hesitated before speaking.
Having made his decision, Ivan perked up and began to discuss the specifics of the meetings with Hermione and the others.
He planned to run it like the second-year Duel Club, focusing on practical combat training and setting up small prizes to spark everyone's interest!
For the rest of the week, he could divide the students into groups of three to four to practice magic freely. With a weekly duel to motivate them, they would likely put in extra effort to avoid embarrassment.
"Like the Duel Club? That's a great idea!" Hermione's eyes lit up after hearing Ivan's plan.
When Lockhart organized the Duel Club, it was a huge success, with students from all over the school participating. Even though Lockhart's level was low and he often gave poor advice, they still learned a lot about dueling techniques.
However, with so many people joining the study group, they would need a large space to set up a dueling arena. Most empty classrooms wouldn't be big enough.
"We can use the Shrieking Shack!" Ivan suggested without hesitation, as it was the only suitable place.
After all, the Room of Requirement was his private domain, and to avoid any accidents, it was best not to let outsiders in for now.
Harry and Hermione thought about it and agreed, finding the location quite secluded.
At that moment, Ron spoke up. "What if Umbridge notices we're all missing? What will we do?"
Ivan looked at Ron, puzzled. On a rest day, it was normal for dozens of students to be absent. If Umbridge asked, they could simply say they were in Hogsmeade.
However, to his surprise, Harry and Hermione actually began to discuss ways to deal with Umbridge.
Seeing that the group had been discussing for a while without coming up with a perfect plan, Ivan shook his head and said casually, "Why not just let her take a break for a few days?"
How would she take a break? Harry, Ron, and Hermione were quite puzzled.
Umbridge wouldn't listen to them.
Ivan kept quiet, deliberately leaving them in suspense, with no intention of answering.
It wasn't until three days later that the news finally came: Umbridge had accidentally sprained her ankle while going down the stairs, tumbling all the way down and landing with a bruised face. She was now recuperating at St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Maladies and Injuries.
Many students suspected that Trelawney had secretly placed a curse on her, and the "curse" prophecy had spread like wildfire through the school...
"It was you, right, Ivan? You're amazing!" Harry exclaimed as soon as he heard the news, his excitement clear.
Ivan just smiled, tacitly admitting it.
"I think you were too lenient. You should have killed her!" Ron grumbled, as Umbridge had been driving him up the wall for days.
During their Defense Against the Dark Arts class the previous day, they had been given detention for not copying the school rules fifty times. They were forced to write "I will obey the school rules" a hundred times with a quill that had no ink.
Whatever curse Umbridge had placed on that quill ensured that every stroke they made on the parchment was etched onto their hand, as if pierced by needles.
If not for Ivan's intervention to remove the magic, they would still be bearing those humiliating marks.
Hermione, unusually, did not criticize Ron's extreme comments and even suggested they use the Auto-Quills developed by George and Fred to complete Umbridge's assignments in the future.
"Are you really Hermione?" Harry looked at the young witch in shock.
Ron also seemed to think he was seeing a ghost, wondering if someone had used Polyjuice Potion to impersonate Hermione. The real Hermione would never allow them to cheat on their homework.
"Umbridge is an exception. We can't waste our time copying useless rules!" Hermione declared firmly, showing she was not being unreasonable.
However, her words were not very convincing, as she had manually written the Fifty Times the School Rules herself.
"By the way, Ivan, when did you finish copying the rules?" Ron asked curiously, assuming Ivan would never submit to Umbridge's tyranny.
Ivan was straightforward, explaining that he had only remembered about it during class and used magic to replicate the rules.
"I was planning to help you, but seeing you and Ron so calm, I thought you had already figured out a way to deal with Umbridge..." Ivan shrugged, not realizing they were only pretending to be calm while having no plan at all.
Harry and Ron exchanged a glance, feeling quite dejected.
They had all agreed in the Great Hall to fight to the end!
Seamus had even sworn he would jump from the tower if he ever copied the school rules!
But when the class actually came, they were shocked to find that everyone had secretly finished copying the rules, leaving only the two of them to be caught by Umbridge...
