Chapter 778: Musings at the End of Time
Chapter 778: Musings at the End of Time
The incident on the Western Continent was but a minor interlude for Feng Ye.
With Feng Ye by her side, Wendy approached this task with minimal anxiety. Coupled with her inherently strong abilities, she quickly uncovered the truth and successfully retrieved the lost goods.
As a reward for completing the task, Feng Ye didn't take Wendy back immediately but instead took her on a tour of the Western Continent, spending a full month there before returning with a content Wendy in tow.
Of course, in Wendy's heart, she hoped to stay with Feng Ye forever. Being with him, she never felt bored, always feeling relaxed and happy.
Upon Feng Ye's return to Ishgar, he was greeted by the annual S-Class Mage Promotion Trial of the Fairy Tail Guild!
Quite a few people were excited about this.
First were the naturally energetic young dragons, Natsu and Gray, who, at this time of year, would enthusiastically take on various commissions and complete them, having long yearned for the status of S-Class Mages.
Second was Mebis, the founding master.
When she established Fairy Tail, there was no distinction of S-Class Mages, and many things were quite rudimentary. The current system evolved over time.
She found it quite enjoyable to test her juniors, and after inquiring about the specifics from Makarov, she confirmed the location for this exam.
Tenrou Island! The sacred ground of Fairy Tail!
At the same time, Mebis removed one of the three rounds Makarov had originally proposed and added three more, resulting in five challenges that tested everything from wisdom to martial prowess to inner strength.
Makarov could only sigh in resignation, acknowledging that this S-Class exam might be the most difficult in the guild's history. However, considering the growth of the young mages in the guild, it wasn't entirely impossible for them to succeed.
Wendy, who had accompanied Feng Ye on his travels and completed commissions with him, now possessed magical powers that even surprised Makarov. She had reached the level of one of Ishgar's Four Gods, the venerable Warrod Sequen.
Her combat prowess was unquestionably sufficient.
Of course, becoming a recognized S-Class Mage required more than just raw power. It also demanded wisdom and a strong, pure heart, as many commissions involved investigation and analysis, requiring more than just brute force to resolve.
In a room, Feng Ye knelt by a small table, a book in his hand.
Mebis lay beside him, her small feet kicking idly in the air as she held a few pages detailing the specifics of the S-Class exam in one hand and a pen in the other, doodling as she read.
"Do you think there are any details missing from the exam content?" she asked.
"You're taking this too seriously," Feng Ye replied with a casual smile. "Just go with your instincts."
Mebis made a small fist and gestured, a playful smile on her face. "After all, this is the first S-Class exam I've participated in. It has to be a little grand, and it's specially designed to test their all-around qualities."
"Mhm," Feng Ye nodded gently, then turned to look out the window.
Mebis quietly watched him, her large eyes sparkling like stars. After a moment, she asked softly, "Are you... leaving soon?"
"Why do you say that?" Feng Ye turned to look at her.
Mebis stuck out her tongue. "Although I can't see through your thoughts, I feel like I sense something... Where are you planning to go?"
Most of what needed to be done in this world had been accomplished.
Although Natsu and the others' story remained unfinished, and the black dragon Acnologia still roamed, these matters no longer held much interest for him.
Moreover, with his ability to travel through time at will, his absence would be imperceptible to others.
He could leave, journey through distant eras, and then return to this precise moment.
In the perception of Mebis and the others, he would never have left at all.
This notion of leaving was relative only to himself.
One day, he would return to this point in time, be it a short while or an eternity later, but regardless, to everyone else, he would have always been there, forever present.
Feng Ye often pondered the limits of his time abilities.
Following the current trajectory, if he pushed his time abilities to their absolute limit, he might be able to exist simultaneously in any given moment, omnipresent and eternal, experiencing countless infinite moments and traveling through innumerable worlds.
Perhaps that would be the true definition of a—god.
In many other worlds, the concept of a god was merely a more powerful life form.
To reach the end of time and transcend this dimension would be to become a truly different kind of life, a true deity.
The life forms of this dimension could scarcely imagine such power; even the concept of strength could not define such beings. Even Feng Ye himself, at this moment, struggled to fully grasp the existence of such life.
Yet, he felt himself walking down that very path.
"If my future self succeeds, then perhaps everything I experience now is simultaneously experienced by my future self... But if that concept is reached, then how will memories exist, and what will become of my self?"
Feng Ye mused to himself.
He wondered if, as such a being, he would still be able to experience the same joy and happiness that he did now as a human, but he knew he could not stop, even if he wanted to.
The power of time continued to unlock, propelling him towards greater heights, and he could not prevent himself from becoming stronger.
Since he could not stop, he would have to ensure that, amidst these changes, he maintained a grasp on his self, preventing himself from becoming lost, preserving his self, and reaching the end of time.
"Let's go."
"First, we'll return to the World of Death and merge that world with the Fairy Tail world into parallel spaces, placing them together. That way, I won't have to keep traveling between the two."
Feng Ye had made up his mind.
He intended to temporarily bring together the worlds he had experienced and cared about, forming a cluster of parallel worlds that were disconnected from each other yet freely accessible to him.
After some time, he would also travel back along the timeline and try to pull other worlds from different eras, merging them together.
