Chapter 778: Being Unlucky Isn't So Bad
Chapter 778: Being Unlucky Isn't So Bad
"They're here."
Ajitan froze as he watched Noardi leave, then blurted out in panic: "They actually came here! Golden Lion Vice Admiral, please save me—save this nation!"
Kuro arched an eyebrow. "Wait, why do you trust him so much?"
"My father...he's always been like this."
Ajitan continued: "Ever since the past, Kolf Island's situation could never be hidden from him. Whether big or small matters—even if a miner at the border fell ill, he'd always find out."
"Hmph, that powerful? Definitely a Devil Fruit user then. Don't you know his ability?" Kuro asked.
Ajitan shook his head: "He's never revealed it. From what I know, whenever Father defeated invading pirates, he'd put them in a Collar. Those wearing the Collar have no choice but to obey Father's orders—no matter what they think or say, their bodies will follow his commands."
"But after Luffy arrived, they clashed violently. For some reason, Luffy destroyed Father's Collar. During their combat, Father used Bomb Rock, but lost one hand because of it, and his ability became ineffective."
Kuro raised an eyebrow again. "Didn't he still have one hand left?"
"I'm not sure", Ajitan shook his head. "Perhaps...he's just gotten too old."
"Is that right?" Kuro mused. "That old man seems stubborn. Doesn't look like someone who'd admit age."
There were too many people like that—Sengoku, Garp, Zeff, Whitebeard, Lucius, and countless pirates from Impel Down who kept scheming despite their age. None of them accepted their limitations.
Who knows what's wrong with this world. Everyone thinks they can still conquer the Grand Line.
Never considering how experienced the Grand Line is—how many young men have already sailed through it. How could a bunch of old men ever hope to satisfy such a vast sea?
Ajitan said: "Sorry, I'll prepare the food. My father caused you trouble, but now I'm the King. He can't stop my decisions anymore."
Kuro's eyes flickered with a red glow. After a pause, he said, "No rush. Let's eat first before heading out."
The Observation Haki detected a massive aura approaching this location.
But in terms of speed, it'd still take several hours.
"I felt it too", Lida said.
Though Lida's Observation Haki might not be as strong as Kuro's, when it came to sensing the number of enemies, he was never mistaken.
"Klah, provide support to Moer. Let him bring Ju Geng here for the meal", Kuro ordered.
"Understood."
Klah took out a Transponder Snail and started providing support.
"Then I'll go arrange for the food."
Ajitan gave a stiff smile, walked toward the door, and accidentally bumped into the table corner with his body, making a loud noise that revealed his anxiety.
Even with a great enemy approaching, he still had to serve this group first.
Everything was for the Kingdom.
Though he was now the King, what could he truly control besides this Stone King City? He was practically losing everything. His father understood nothing, stubbornly clinging to his own opinions.
No problem—once this crisis was resolved, his father would finally understand.
"Kuro, that old man..."
After Ajitan left, Lida spoke: "He's heading in that direction too."
"I know."
Kuro exhaled smoke, comfortably leaning back. Under the swirling smoke, his expression couldn't be seen clearly.
"Such stubborn old men—Zeff was like this, and he's the same. They won't change their minds even at the end. Forget about those old folks trying to contribute their remaining energy."
"If that's the case..."
Shalria from the opposite side spoke up: "Golden Lion Vice Admiral, why not set out now and eliminate those pirates? Then our mission would be completed."
Kuro glanced at her. "People need to eat. Without proper rest, where would we get the strength to eradicate pirates? Even if we don't rest, don't my subordinates need to?"
Shalria pressed her lips together, saying nothing more.
Kaku leaned back on the chair. "The Vice Admiral already gave orders. In my humble opinion, staying stable is better. Since he's leading, we should just follow his lead."
Lucci didn't speak, merely looking at Kuro before falling silent.
Soon after Klah finished the call, two auras appeared outside the Castle. Moer arrived with Ju Geng.
"Ah, does my dear nephew need his uncle again?" Moer yawned lazily as he strolled into the hall.
"Just called you for a meal. We'll have something to do later", Kuro casually tossed a cigar over.
Moer caught it mid-air and sat at the opposite seat.
"Ju Geng sister~"
Lida called out to Ju Geng, guiding her to sit down.
"Moer?"
As Moer settled in, Shalria frowned and turned to look at this man with a slack expression.
"Uh, miss, do we know each other?" Moer scratched his head, confused. "Staring at me like that makes me uncomfortable. Though you're beautiful, I always get the feeling you're older than me."
"Oh my, such impoliteness."
Shalria smiled. "If I'm not mistaken, you're the 'Ghost of Instant' Moer, right? I heard your name on the ship before, but never met you. Never connected the dots."
"Ghost of Instant?"
Lucci and Kaku frowned too. Kaku looked over. "Oh, you're that person Cipher Pol Zero wanted to recruit?"
"Hmm? You knew about that history too, Moer?" Kuro asked with interest.
"Ah", Moer lifted his head. "Who's that? Do I even have that nickname? I'm just Moer. Don't remember Cipher Pol ever inviting me."
"They did try. Just couldn't find you."
Shalria said: "Our agents tracked you multiple times, but always lost your trail due to various accidents. The closest was recently at the 'Gesha Islands' in the South Sea—that was the nearest we ever got."
"Gesha Islands..."
Moer seemed to recall something, striking his left fist into his right palm. "Oh! You mean that gorgeous miss with the figure! I remember her! I thought she wanted to do something good with me—I agreed! Even booked a hotel room! But later the miss didn't show up, and there was a riot there."
Shalria's lips twitched. "According to reports, your sudden disappearance made our intelligence agents panic. They used 'Shave' desperately, which was spotted by the Revolutionary Army's officer. They realized our infiltration and initiated the riot early."
"Ah, what rotten luck. I was looking forward to a pleasant night", Moer shook his head, disappointed.
"Big brother Moer, that's actually because of you", Sazil couldn't help blurting out.
This man had the nickname 'Unluckiness Engine.'
Kuro suddenly burst into laughter.
Being unlucky isn't so bad. That was another major reason Kuro kept Moer around besides his ability.
If he simply brought bad luck upon himself, he'd never rise in rank—just get demoted instead.
Who wouldn't be anxious when no one knew when he'd finally prove useful? Yet for this long, Moer hadn't revealed any usefulness at all.
