Chapter 777: Surging Waves of Energy
Chapter 777: Surging Waves of Energy
Upon hearing Li Xie's words, Pei Shen Shi maintained his composure and smiled, "I apologize, but I recall that most of the contamination inspections at the Emergency Task Center are submitted through our Defense Department. Even if you discovered it, it still requires our department's verification and assessment."
"After all, we are the ones who face these dangers firsthand."
"As of now, I haven't seen any new contamination similar to what you described in the Defense Department's records. Therefore, the existence of such a thing remains to be confirmed. Until then, we do not acknowledge it. If you have any objections, you can submit a discovery and verification report to the Defense Department."
As he spoke, Pei Shen Shi glanced at his watch, "Sorry, we have other matters to attend to. We can't stay here for long. Please step aside and don't obstruct our passage."
Li Xie inwardly cursed the situation, but he didn't want to give up so easily. Today, their main goal was to obstruct the group's path, so he needed to prolong the delay.
Just as he was about to say something more, Lv Zuo came up from behind and pushed Li Xie aside, causing him to stumble.
"What nonsense are you spouting? Get out of my way! While I was fighting at the front, where were you? Now that I'm back, you come to investigate me? Get lost!"
As Lv Zuo took action, the armed personnel immediately tensed up, their hands moving towards the holsters at their waists. However, this action caught the attention of the squad members who had been to the Fusion Zone, and danger flashed in their eyes.
Li Xie, sensing their reaction, tensed up and shouted, "Don't move! Everyone, stay still!" He raised his hands to indicate his peaceful intentions and said to the armed personnel, "Step aside and let them pass."
He was well aware that these armed personnel were merely ordinary security guards, no match for the experienced fighters returning from the battlefield. If a conflict were to occur, they would be eliminated in a matter of minutes.
The group's purpose here was merely to follow the protocol. Whether the other party agreed or disagreed, they had their own ways of handling the situation, and it wasn't necessary for him to take the lead.
Seeing that Li Xie was stepping aside, no one else challenged him, as everyone knew he was just a subordinate following orders."
Pei Shen Shi had the Defense Department's guards come over to separate the two sides, and then he nodded to Chen Chuan and the others.
Chen Chuan nodded back, adjusted his hat brim slightly, and led the group towards the brightly lit exit above.
Li Xie watched them leave, and after the Defense Department's guards also departed, he touched the World Gateway and said to the other side, "Mr. Yan, they refused the inspection. Everyone has already exited the passage."
"Understood," came the reply, and the communication ended abruptly.
Chen Chuan and his group reached the outside, where they saw a Defense Department vehicle waiting. He boarded one of the extended armored vehicles and settled in. Only after the vehicle started moving did he have the chance to check the messages on the World Gateway, which was filled with numerous messages and notifications.
Two of them caught his attention, and he tapped to listen to a voice message, "Hello, Chen Director. We are from the Coastal Law Firm, and we have been entrusted by the Union delegation to accuse you of attacking a delegation member who entered the Fusion Zone during your operation..."
Before the message finished, he swiped it away and opened another notification.
It was a diplomatic letter from the Linax diplomatic team, submitted to the Foreign Affairs Department, stating that there was a new eyewitness to the assault case, and they required his cooperation and communication.
After reading it, Chen Chuan immediately contacted Gao Ming through the World Gateway.
"Big Brother, are you back?" Gao Ming asked.
Chen Chuan replied, "I just got back, and there are two matters I need your help with." He sent the two notifications and the legal letter.
"Big Brother, leave this to me," Gao Ming said.
"Be careful during this period," Chen Chuan instructed.
Gao Ming understood immediately, "I understand. I'll communicate with them through the World Gateway first."
Chen Chuan nodded, and after ending the call, he tapped the World Gateway, "An Dun, give me a brief report on the situation after I left. Focus on the key points and provide specific details about the events over the next couple of days."
An Dun promptly provided a concise summary of the recent events, quickly transitioning to the present day and narrating the series of incidents that had occurred, including the mention of Wang Weiguang, who had not been seen for a long time and whose charges had been dropped. He had returned to the bureau with his group.
Upon hearing this, Chen Chuan's eyes flickered, and he said, "Let's head back to the Handling Bureau first."
At the intersection ahead, over a dozen armed vehicles were parked, and Yan Zhiwen from the Emergency Task Center was seated inside one of them. His World Gateway displayed the approaching convoy.
Yan Zhiwen issued an order, and several armed vehicles immediately sped out, blocking the intersection. Elite armed personnel, fully armed and loaded, emerged and aimed their weapons forward.
Yan Zhiwen stepped out of his vehicle, approaching the entire convoy.
The World Gateway of the entire squad suddenly echoed with a voice, "We are an emergency dispatch squad from the Emergency Task Center. We have detected that you are untested personnel returning from the Fusion Zone. For the safety of Central City, please disembark immediately and follow us back to the Task Center for inspection."
"If you do not comply, we will take compulsory measures."
Captain Lv spoke up, "Director Chen, Xu Chan, it's Yan Zhiwen, a lapdog of the Municipal Parliament."
He had always held a grudge against Yan Zhiwen, who flaunted his power under the Parliament's authority. However, he had to acknowledge Yan's capabilities, as someone entrusted with important tasks by the Parliament couldn't be an ordinary person.
Xu Chan's voice echoed through Chen Chuan's World Gateway, "Director Chen, Yan Zhiwen is an old acquaintance of ours. Let me handle this."
Chen Chuan calmly replied, "Old Xu, feel free to take action. I'll handle any aftermath."
Xu Chan gave a slight nod. Ever since he boarded the fighter's airship and then the train, he had his suspicions. Hearing Chen's words, he felt more confident in his hunch.
Xu Chan pushed open the door and stepped off the train, followed by the three captains and other team members, all dressed in protective uniforms, many with face masks, exuding an intimidating aura.
Yan Zhiwen ignored the others and focused on the approaching figure, "Xu Chan?"
Xu Chan turned to him, "Yan Zhiwen, step aside now, or you'll lose the chance."
Yan Zhiwen, expressionless, said, "Captain Xu, please cooperate with the investigation. The safety of Central City is paramount. The Emergency Task Center is responsible for all citizens, and if you refuse the inspection, according to the safety regulations agreed upon by the Municipal Parliament and the Government Hall, I have the authority to enforce compulsory measures. Please consider this carefully."
Xu Chan didn't respond but reached for his waist, drawing out a thin sword with a swift motion. He then shook his arm, sending the sword swinging to the side, its tip glowing faintly.
Yan Zhiwen's expression turned grim. He quickly drew two long spears from his waist, their tips also glowing. In a stern voice, he said, "Xu Chan, you are challenging Central City's regulations. I will exercise the authority granted to me by the city."
Xu Chan replied, "I'm giving you this chance." With that, he shook his arm, sending the thin sword swinging upwards.
Yan Zhiwen swiftly raised his hand, and the two spears clashed with the sword. He was experienced, blocking the flexible thin sword with one spear while the other deflected the sword's tip, which was bending towards him. Due to the speed of the action, it appeared as if both spears made contact simultaneously.
And because there were two points of contact, his psychic force could strike the opponent's weapon in two places. But upon contact, he realized the opponent had anticipated this, as psychic force appeared at both points.
On Xu Chan's side, as the thin sword touched the two spears, he lunged forward, closing the distance to Yan Zhiwen. Both fists pounded towards Yan, glowing faintly.
This move was unusual, as the thin sword was longer and could usually keep opponents at bay from a distance.
Yan Zhiwen was surprised by Xu Chan's decision to close the distance, which didn't align with his previous style of seeking opportunities and then striking decisively.
Despite his surprise, Yan Zhiwen reacted swiftly, and close-quarters combat was his forte. With the spears already drawn, he welcomed the challenge, his fists glowing faintly as he met Xu Chan's attack.
As their fists collided, the faint glows vanished, and two forces clashed, creating a shockwave that rocked the surrounding vehicles.
Neither side seemed to gain an advantage, and neither took a step back.
But Yan Zhiwen felt something was amiss. Suddenly, he felt a chill down his spine as he saw Xu Chan's thin sword, propelled by the force of the clash, rise along his arm and then bend, its glowing tip aiming straight for Yan's back.
Xu Chan's lunge wasn't meant to strike Yan Zhiwen but to hinder his movement while guiding the thin sword with the momentum of the lunge!
This was a technique Xu Chan had devised after observing Qi Qianyang's whip usage, the "Scorpion Tail Strike," and this was his first time employing it.
Yan Zhiwen, held in place by Xu Chan's force, couldn't muster the strength to break free. He could only watch as the sword tip, like a whip, lashed towards him, finally striking the back of his head. There was a cracking sound, and the psychic force within shattered his brain into a pulp.
