Chapter 776: The Death Eaters' True Target
Chapter 776: The Death Eaters' True Target
Kyle had been hoping that he was overthinking things.
But then news arrived—whether it was Little Hangleton or Privet Drive, there had only been two Death Eaters from the start, and those were the ones Tonks had lured away... or perhaps they didn't even qualify as Death Eaters.
After everyone had left, Tonks returned with several Aurors to Privet Drive and captured them. During this time, not a single Death Eater came to their aid.
Through interrogation, they learned that these two had been in Cornwall just a few days ago. But later, out of admiration for Voldemort, they wanted to serve him and received their first task—to keep watch over Harry Potter. In other words, these two were merely disposable pawns who knew nothing and weren't even aware of who to report to when something unexpected happened.
Since they had arrived at Privet Drive, not a single Death Eater had contacted them. Even if they had been deceived by the false information released earlier, they would have reacted immediately.
After all, Death Eaters were evil, but not foolish.
Now, half an hour had passed since the operation ended, and if their ability to adapt was truly this slow, they would have been captured by the Ministry officials and sent to the Dementors long ago.
"Regardless, Harry is safe and sound, and that's great," Mrs. Weasley said, sensing the tense atmosphere.
She glanced at the time, "Goodness, is it this late already? I bet you're all starving."
She then led everyone to the dining room, planning to use dinner to distract them.
But before this, she hadn't had the heart to prepare a proper dinner. With time being tight, she could only quickly make some simple sandwiches.
However, no one seemed to have an appetite. Mr. Weasley, Kingsley, and Mad-Eye Moody sat there, drinking glass after glass of alcohol, their eyes filled with the same worry.
Although they didn't say a word, Kyle knew what they were thinking.
...Dumbledore.
The Death Eaters must have abandoned this operation for a more important reason, such as ambushing the isolated Dumbledore.
With Dumbledore currently in Cornwall and without any assistance, it was the perfect opportunity to eliminate him.
As long as Dumbledore was killed, Voldemort would be rid of his last obstacle. Returning with renewed strength, he could easily take control of the Ministry or launch an attack on Hogwarts without any resistance.
If that was the case, what happened to Harry might not matter anymore.
...
To be honest, Kyle really wanted to help, but he had no idea where Dumbledore had gone, and neither did Professor McGonagall or the other members of the Order of the Phoenix.
The only fortunate thing was that Dumbledore had Fawkes by his side.
The phoenix could help Dumbledore withstand an Avada Kedavra curse and, in times of danger, instantly teleport him away from the battlefield. Even if they couldn't win, escape was guaranteed... hopefully.
For some reason, Kyle suddenly thought of Nurmengard again...
He shook his head and picked up a sandwich, trying to calm himself down.
If Voldemort had indeed gone to Nurmengard, there would be nothing to worry about. With Grindelwald and Dumbledore joining forces, they could probably hang all the Death Eaters, along with Voldemort, as decorations on the tower.
With this thought, Kyle took a deep breath and began to eat his dinner.
But the others still didn't have the appetite for it. A bottle of Firewhisky was quickly emptied, and Sirius was about to open the second one, but Mr. Weasley stopped him, shaking his head, "Never mind, we need to stay alert."
Sirius had no choice but to give up.
He made a lot of sense; regardless of the Death Eaters' plan, they needed to stay vigilant.
If they couldn't drink alcohol, they could only turn to beverages like hot cocoa, pumpkin juice, or milk.
Everyone sat at the dining table, but no one knew what they were waiting for—perhaps Dumbledore or something else. Yet, no one took the initiative to inquire about the news.
Time ticked by, and the unpleasant guesses weighed on their minds like a heavy frost, the chilling unease becoming increasingly unbearable.
Until a frivolous voice reached them from behind.

Ron suggested, "Mom won't be guarding forever. With the Invisibility Cloak, we can sneak out..."
"Don't even think about it!" Ginny shot him a glare. "If Harry gets into trouble at the Ministry of Magic, all our efforts will be in vain."
"Yes," Hermione agreed, "at least we've successfully rescued Harry for now."
...
Meanwhile, Kyle and the Weasley brothers, to avoid exposing their location at Grimmauld Place No. 12, quickly ran to another street before using Apparition to reach the Ministry of Magic.
The phone booth at the entrance had been overturned and smashed to pieces.
Fortunately, they were headed for a different entrance, an old record shop.
This was the staff entrance to the Ministry, and the owner, a wizard named Rod, was not in the shop at the moment.
The group didn't pay much attention and headed straight to a cabinet.
Kyle stepped forward, "I'm a Senior Assistant Minister, and I need to go to the Ministry of Magic."
"Welcome to the Ministry of Magic," a cold female voice echoed from a nearby record player.
The cabinet clicked open, revealing a passage behind it.
The three of them rushed in immediately.
The Ministry's main hall was in chaos, with moans and cries for help echoing throughout. Several healers were rushing around, attending to the injured.
The recently repaired golden statue had been shattered again, and golden fragments lay scattered on the floor.
"What about Cedric?" Fred asked anxiously.
"No," Kyle replied after a quick scan.
"It's okay," George said softly, "maybe he's not here. After all, it was past working hours an hour ago, and he might have gone home already."
"Yeah," Fred nodded.
Although he said this, he knew in his heart that due to the recent disturbances caused by Death Eaters, the Ministry of Magic no longer had fixed working hours.
The group fell silent for a moment.
"The Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures is on the fourth floor," Fred suddenly said.
Without any further words, Kyle and George immediately understood his intention and turned towards the elevator.
Fortunately, the elevator was still functional.
However, due to the large number of people, the area around the elevator was already crowded with healers and others who had received the news and rushed over.
"We can't go on like this, we need to find another way."
"Let's take the stairs," Kyle suggested.
But when they reached the stairs, they found it blocked by a massive stone slab that had fallen from above.
A few people were using the Reductor Curse to try and clear a path, but with little success.
"Move aside, don't block the way!"
Kyle drew his wand, but instead of using the Reductor Curse, he used a Transfiguration spell, turning the stone slab into a greyhound.
The greyhound happily trotted to the side, and the stairs were instantly cleared.
"Transfiguration can be used like this too?" Fred blinked in surprise.
"It's convenient," George commented, "definitely better than using the Reductor Curse."
"Oh, that's amazing!"
As they quickly ran up the stairs, a voice called out from behind, "But not everyone can transfigure such a large stone."
Kyle didn't turn back, as he was focused on Cedric and didn't pay attention to the person behind them.
But the person continued to chatter.
"For someone your age to achieve this is truly remarkable. I have a feeling I've seen you before. Do you also work at the Ministry?"
"Well, if I may say so, my son could do this too. He's busy transporting the injured and insisted that I go to another location to help."
"Oh, right. Are you two from the Weasley family? How's Arthur?"
Hearing Mr. Weasley's name finally caught Kyle's attention, and he realized that the voice sounded familiar.
Kyle abruptly stopped and turned to see a tall man with a short brown beard following them.
"Mr. Diggory?" Kyle looked at him in disbelief, "How are you here?"
"Oh, Kyle," Amos Diggory was equally surprised, "it's you. No wonder I felt so familiar earlier."
He then recognized Fred and George, "As I thought, seeing your hair, I knew you were from the Weasley family. How are Arthur and Chris? Are they okay?"
"They're fine," Fred replied, "Mr. Diggory, where's Cedric?"
"Ced, he's escorting some injured people to St. Mungo's," Mr. Diggory said, "they can only do basic treatment here."
"Is he okay?" George asked.
"Yes, he's fine," Mr. Diggory waved his hand and lowered his voice, "although it's a bit inappropriate to say this, when the Death Eaters attacked the Ministry, we were luckily at the Bagshot's, dealing with his magically modified animals."
