Chapter 774: So-Called Responsive to All Requests
Chapter 774: So-Called Responsive to All Requests
“You might not know, but decades ago, a young male wizard your age also sneaked into the Tower one night and asked me a similar question…” Helena said with a wavering tone.
Ivan immediately guessed who Helena was referring to and cursed inwardly.
Damn Tom, actually blocking the path I wanted to take!
Ivan silently noted this in his mental ledger but kept his expression unchanged, feigning confusion as he spoke. “I don’t quite understand what you mean…”
“Are you here for Ravenclaw’s Diadem?” Helena looked at Ivan with disdain, her voice cutting through his act. “In fact, you’re not the first student to covet the Crown…”
“No, Miss Helena, I think you’ve misunderstood!” Ivan shook his head.
“Not admitting it? Hmph, then it seems we have nothing more to discuss…” Helena sneered, her form wavering as she turned to leave.
Just then, Ivan’s voice rang out again.
“Ravenclaw’s Diadem was destroyed several years ago. Why would I look for something that no longer exists?”
Helena’s advancing figure paused, then she turned sharply to face Ivan, her eyes wide with surprise. “What did you say? The Crown was destroyed?”
“Haven’t you heard? This happened three years ago, and it involved Tom Riddle…” Ivan feigned surprise, pausing for effect before continuing.
“He desecrated the founders’ relics, turning Ravenclaw’s Diadem into a Horcrux, causing a disturbance at Hogwarts. I had to put in a lot of effort to deal with that trouble.”
Helena looked at Ivan with suspicion, but the mention of Tom Riddle and Horcruxes made her hesitate to question him outright.
“Would you be interested in hearing my story, Miss Helena?” Ivan snapped his fingers lightly, and a flame sprang up in the dry fireplace, dispelling the midnight chill.
This wandless casting surprised Helena slightly. She fell silent for a moment before asking, “Can you tell me your name?”
“Ivan Hals!” Ivan bowed slightly as he spoke.
…
With Helena’s suspicions allayed, Ivan visited Ravenclaw Tower every night for the next few days to meet with the Lady Ghost.
However, Ivan found Helena to be very cautious, so he had to be subtle, steering the conversation toward the Magic Power Storage Room.
“Are you saying all four founders were involved in the castle’s renovation?” On the fifth night, after listening to Helena recount the events of a thousand years ago, Ivan couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes, but most of the work was done by Slytherin and my mother,” Helena said with a distant tone.
Ivan nodded, not surprised.
According to Helena, Rowena Ravenclaw was highly skilled in alchemy, and Salazar Slytherin was the master of the castle, so it made sense that the renovation would be their responsibility.
It seemed his earlier suspicions were correct. Helena likely knew something about the Magic Power Storage Room.
“You’re a very special person, Hals!”
As Ivan was thinking, Helena floated beside him, whispering softly, “Not at all like a Gryffindor.”
“Actually, many people have said that, and I think I might be better suited for Ravenclaw,” Ivan shrugged. If it weren’t for his original memories, he might never have ended up in Gryffindor.
“No, you don’t seem like a Ravenclaw either...” Helena said ethereally.
“Why?” Ivan was quite puzzled. He considered himself sharp-witted, studious, and highly curious, which should fit the Ravenclaw criteria quite well.
“No particular reason, just doesn’t seem like it... If I had to say something, it’s just a gut feeling!” Helena laughed happily.
Ivan’s face darkened slightly. He assumed the ghost was deliberately teasing him and shook his head in resignation before asking again, “By the way, Helena, why did you tell Tom about the whereabouts of the Crown?”
After spending some time with her, Ivan realized that the Spectral Lady was not easily fooled, unlike what he had initially expected.
Or perhaps she had learned her lesson after being deceived by Tom?
“Tom... is different from others. He is very charming and understanding... compassionate... In a thousand years, no one has ever understood me like he did.” Helena sighed. “And he promised to bring back my mother’s Crown...”
“Yeah, he did bring the Crown back, but he left it in the Room of Requirement...” Ivan pointed out, acknowledging that Voldemort had not exactly lied, but had been manipulative.
“Hmph...” Helena let out a soft humph, clearly displeased. The thought of being deceived by Tom Riddle made her even more despondent, and she sighed deeply. “I thought Tom was a friend I could confide in, but he betrayed me. I even told him the location of the Room of Requirement...”
“Now I understand.” Ivan murmured to himself.
The location of the Room of Requirement was extremely secret. Even Dumbledore had only discovered it by chance. Ivan had always been curious about how Voldemort had found out about it, but now he knew it was from Helena.
Of course, compared to this, Ivan was even more curious about the workings of the Room of Requirement. A place that could materialize one’s thoughts was truly beyond his comprehension.
Helena did not seem to have any intention of keeping it a secret and soon explained, “The Room of Requirement is a miracle created by my mother, Rowena Ravenclaw, using Alchemy combined with the castle’s vast Magic!”
“The castle’s Magic?” Ivan was taken aback, suddenly realizing something.
Helena didn’t notice Ivan’s change in expression and continued, “On a daily basis, the castle stores the Magic that you all naturally emit or use during Magic practice, to power the Secret Passages, the revolving staircases, and various Protective Charms.
But as the number of students increased, the residual Magic became more substantial. So, my mother created the Room of Requirement...
Of course, at that time, the stored Magic was not as abundant as it is now, so it couldn’t fulfill every need. It was more like a research laboratory.”
Listening to Helena, Ivan was completely stunned. So, the Magic Power Storage Room was actually the Room of Requirement!
He had never realized that the thing he had been searching for was right under his nose, and he had been completely unaware of it for the past four years.
