Chapter 773: Bedtime Story
Chapter 773: Bedtime Story
As the White Snake-masked man spoke, a hint of doubt flickered in the crystal-clear eyes of the Black Cat, as if she had just realized something about Crow.
Despite Crow's seemingly straightforward nature, these coincidences were too convenient, especially his repeated failures in tasks, yet he always managed to escape death and even gained significant advantages. It was all too suspicious.
"So... are you planning to test Crow?" The Black Cat blinked her glistening eyes and adjusted her slender posture, her voice slightly hoarse as she asked, "White Snake, do you want me to feed him some false information and see if the Food God from the Purification Bureau will be lured to the Maiden Kingdom?"
"Yes, that's my plan."
"But what if the Food God actually comes?" The Black Cat furrowed her brows, concerned. "Crow is one thing; his powers are straightforward and simple, so dealing with him won't be a problem, even now that he's a Pillar God. I'm confident I can handle him.
But the Food God is a different story. His abilities are too diverse and strange, and I'm not sure I can control him. If he gets there before me and finds the Great Sorceress's daughter..."
"That might be even better." The White Snake-masked man's lips curled slightly, then he spoke with a meaningful tone, "Two targets become one, and it's better to solve them together, isn't it?"
"Huh?!" The Black Cat's pupils contracted momentarily, and she blinked in surprise. "White Snake, do you mean... the Directors back at the Bureau have already...?"
"The situation in the Old Land is complex, and those Directors can't return for the time being." White Snake gave a straightforward answer, then tossed her a large woolen sleep cap. With a smile, he replied, "But they left their marks on the Code, so they know what's happening here. They told us a bedtime story, and the title of that story... well, let's call it 'The Traitor's Fate.'"
The traitor's fate? The Black Cat caught the sleep cap in a fluster, her slender fingers unconsciously tightening around the ball. "What do I need to do to cooperate?"
"You don't need to do anything." White Snake pointed at the top of the Black Cat's head and smiled. "As the listener of the bedtime story, all you need to do is put on this cap and wait for the story to begin. Is there anything else you want to ask?"
"I do have some more questions!" The Black Cat bit her lip instinctively, her eyes filled with resistance. "The last person who wore this cap went insane, and the one before that hasn't woken up yet. I don't think..."
"If you don't want to wear it, then don't." White Snake waved dismissively and leaned back in his chair, smiling. "The adults have already started their story. If you wear this cap, you're the listener, and if you don't want to wear it, then you're part of the story. It's your choice."
"I..."
"Alright, that's enough." White Snake gestured for her to leave, then stood up from the head of the long table and walked away without looking back. "Black Cat, I sincerely hope that you'll hear a good story under that cap."
"..." The Black Cat sincerely hoped that the other party would put on this damn sleep cap and listen to the deadly story for her!
As White Snake stood up and left the long table, the shadows in front of the Black Cat's eyes shifted, and she found herself back in her own bedroom, the secret space filled with gray mist now gone.
"Snap!" The firewood in the fireplace crackled and splintered under the licking flames, casting a dim red glow on the woman's face, accentuated by the black cat-faced mask she wore.
It seemed that not only was Crow suspected, but also me.
She gently grasped the soft, velvet nightcap, her fingers feeling the warmth of the fabric. The woman, dressed in a deep purple nightgown, bit her lower lip, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a gleaming piece of amber. She held it up to the nightcap in her hand.
As the light played across the woman's hand, the knitted nightcap suddenly disappeared, only to reappear in the center of the amber's yellowish-brown surface. What chilled the woman was that, upon leaving her palm, the once well-behaved nightcap began to move strangely.
The lowest part of the nightcap's brim, a strand of agitated yarn, quietly revealed itself—a tough Amberbee that slowly and irresistibly spread, lightly wrapping around her pinky finger.
It seemed that White Snake had been telling the truth; the 'Bedtime Story' had indeed begun, and she had been chosen as one of the 'Beginnings' of the story...
Looking at the nightcap floating up and down in the amber, she checked the yarn on her pinky finger, then sighed and removed her black cat mask, revealing a delicate and beautiful face.
If any of the high-ranking members of the Maiden Kingdom saw this face, they would likely exclaim in surprise, for aside from a pair of black cat ears, the woman by the fireplace bore an uncanny resemblance to the Great Sorceress's daughter, who had been missing for many years.
It seemed that she could no longer escape the Carnage King Society's pursuit alone; she had to find a way to contact the Purification Bureau.
The woman, wearing a velvet nightgown, rose from the recliner by the fireplace, her chest covered, hiding a hint of pale flesh. She walked towards the other end of the room, where a tall cedar wardrobe stood. From the top of the wardrobe, she took down a crystal ball with a somber hue.
"I wish to see the past..."
The crystal ball, held by the cat-eared woman, trembled slightly as she whispered. A hazy image of an elderly woman with silver hair appeared, her face matching that of the Purification Bureau's Taurus Director.
At that moment, the Taurus Director was holding a magnificent mirror, her eyes wide with shock as she listened to a black-haired man speak. Her expression was a mix of confusion, surprise, and a full 990% of being caught off guard.
"What did you say? You smashed the entire Northern Kingdom's mountains into the earth? The Earth Body summoned by the Earthline Descendants has been shattered by you?"
"???"
Like the Taurus Director in the crystal ball, the cat-eared woman's mind was blown by this explosive news. She widened her eyes, cupped the crystal ball with both hands, and focused the 'scene' on the black-haired man. Then, with effort, she began to rotate the ball counterclockwise.
As she did so, the scene in the crystal ball began to rewind rapidly. The black-haired man retreated, re-entering the earth's core, accepting the surrender of the Earthline Descendants, and with a wave of his hand, he 'uprooted' over a hundred towering peaks.
My goodness... How did he do that?
After restoring the somber crystal ball to its original position, the woman watched as Leon, with a wave of his hand, threw over a hundred peaks and even forcibly dragged an entire hexagonal mountain range, seemingly intending to completely destroy the earth's core. The cat-eared woman couldn't help but gasp in shock.
Was the Purification Bureau's Food God this outrageous? No wonder Crow, even with the release of the Earthline Descendants, couldn't complete his mission... Hmm... Wasn't it a three-way battle? Where was Crow? Why couldn't I see him?
