Chapter 772: The Pirates' Night Attack
Chapter 772: The Pirates' Night Attack
"Travel the world... together?"
Wendy covered her small mouth in surprise, her eyes wide as she looked at Feng Ye in astonishment.
Feng Ye smiled without elaborating further, "Alright, it's getting late. Let's have dinner, and then we should get some rest."
Speaking of which, he suddenly remembered something, "Oh right, something might happen tonight. Well, it's your chance to perform, and I'll wake you up when the time comes."
"Eh?"
Wendy's big eyes flickered with confusion, but since Feng Ye didn't elaborate, she eventually nodded obediently without asking further questions.
She trusted Feng Ye implicitly.
After having dinner with him, she went through her usual routine of washing up and going to bed. Feng Ye, however, remained seated on the bed, reading a book late into the night.
...
At the stroke of midnight.
In a cabin on the top deck of the cargo ship.
Naturally, this giant cargo ship had a specially hired security team. The guards were not from a Mages' Guild but rather a regular Knights' Guild, though they could still use some magic.
In this world, magic was so prevalent and magic items so commonplace in bustling cities that anyone could buy them. Thus, the presence of mages was not unusual, though the employment cost of powerful mages tended to be high.
"Burp! The night view tonight is as stunning as ever, Captain. Why are you standing here tonight? No dates?"
A knight walked over with a bottle of wine in hand, belching as he spoke.
The captain of the knights, standing inside the railing on the top deck of the cargo ship, smiled gently, "No, I received invitations from three young ladies, and I'm contemplating which one to visit tonight."
"Hahahaha! You're truly the captain!''
A knight beside him immediately laughed, his tone flattering, "Your handsome looks and formidable strength easily captivate young ladies, and you exude a sense of security. None of the ships you've guarded have ever had any issues."
The captain smiled silently, a hint of pride in his eyes.
"Speaking of which, I heard that two mages also boarded this cargo ship. They're said to have temporarily joined and even occupied the first mate's cabin, which is better than ours."
Another knight walked over, belching as he spoke with a hint of dissatisfaction.
"No, I heard they weren't hired; they bought the tickets themselves, and being mages, they were given VIP treatment. In a sense, they're also our clients who need our protection."
The other man shook his head.
"Mages who need the protection of knights?"
The captain laughed heartily, then casually shook his head as if it didn't matter, "It doesn't matter. I should consider which young lady's room to visit tonight."
As he spoke, he walked towards the cabins at the back of the ship.
The other knights exchanged amused smiles.
But.
Just then, on the dark, calm sea, a beam of light suddenly appeared, shining directly on the cargo ship as it sailed through the darkness.
Immediately after.
Boom!!!
A scorching beam of light blasted from afar, hitting the top of the cargo ship. It struck one of the knights, causing him to let out a horrific cry as the wine bottle in his hand shattered. His steel armor dented, and he was flung dozens of meters across, falling into the sea.
The captain, who had been walking towards the cabins, had his face drained of color as he exclaimed,
"We're under attack!"
"Pirates!"
Along with his shout, the other knights scrambled in confusion, drawing their weapons to defend against the pirates' assault.
Soon, the entire cargo ship was in an uproar, with crew members looking out the portholes, their faces filled with terror.
Despite the massive size of the cargo ship, which remained relatively stable, the intense blasts startled many from their slumber, including Wendy.
She rubbed her eyes sleepily and then jolted awake, sitting up in bed with a startled cry. "There's a battle!"
"You're awake. I was just about to call you." Feng Ye turned to her and smiled. "Yeah, it's pirates. They're fighting the knights, but these drunken knights are no match. It's time for our little Dragon Slayer Mage to take the stage."
"Mhm!" Wendy nodded vigorously.
In the past, she might have lacked confidence and meekly asked, 'Can I do it?' But now, with Feng Ye by her side, she had grown significantly, and she felt a surge of courage.
Indeed, it was Feng Ye's presence that had lulled her into a sense of security, causing her to react slower than usual. Normally, with her keen senses as a Dragon Slayer Mage, she would have detected the impending conflict before it even began.
However, with Feng Ye there, she slept soundly and peacefully, hence her delayed reaction.
"Wait a moment."
As Wendy prepared to rush out, Feng Ye stopped her and flicked his finger at her.
Whoosh!!!
A golden light flashed, and Wendy's white sleepwear instantly transformed into her usual combat attire.
"All set. Off you go." With a wave of his hand, Feng Ye finished the change of clothes with his transformation magic.
Wendy smiled sweetly at Feng Ye and then dashed out of the cabin door.
...
Outside, the knights, despite their disadvantage against the pirates, could have at least put up a better fight if they hadn't been drinking and were better prepared. But due to their inebriation and lack of vigilance, they were caught off guard, making it impossible to hold off the pirates' assault.
Soon, the pirates' smaller boats closed in.
Several pirates boarded the cargo ship and engaged the knights in close combat. Their ferocious aura and wild magic erupted on the top deck of the cargo ship, striking fear into the hearts of the ship's captain, first mate, and other sailors.
The knights were being pushed back relentlessly.
"Damn it..."
The captain of the knights was speared in the abdomen, causing him to spit out a mouthful of blood. His face twisted in regret—he had been too careless! As he felt his defense faltering, despair began to set in.
Whoosh! A petite figure flashed by, a beam of white light in her wake. With a swift kick, she shattered the magic spear and sent the pirate captain flying over a dozen meters, crashing into the sea.
This sudden intervention startled both the pirates and the knights, and they turned to see a girl of around twelve years old, her arms wrapped in magical light, and what appeared to be translucent white wings fluttering behind her.
"A mage?"
"Don't panic! She's just a kid!"
The pirates were shocked to see their captain struck down, but one of them quickly shouted out, charging at Wendy.
"Sky Dragon's Wing Strike!"
Wendy took a deep breath, her eyes determined. She slid forward and, with a sweeping motion, unleashed the power of Sky Dragon magic.
Whoosh!!!
The white wings emanating from her small hands fluttered powerfully, sending five or six pirates flying off the ship and into the water.
