Chapter 771: Clues to the Magic Power Storage Room
Chapter 771: Clues to the Magic Power Storage Room
A week passed in the blink of an eye, but Ivan's search for clues had made no progress.
To this end, he even maintained Legilimency for extended periods, probing every Young Wizard who entered and exited the entrance hall.
However, his perceptions revealed that no one around him harbored deep malice.
At least not enough to poison him.
Even Umbridge, who treated him the worst, only cursed him in her thoughts and had no plans to murder him in the near future.
This made Ivan feel very puzzled. His Legilimency had reached level seven, and in the entire school, only Snape, who had mastered Occlumency to the extreme, could evade his perception.
Could the threat come from outside the school, or perhaps a House-Elf under the Imperius Curse?
Or was it as the note suggested, that the real danger was Snape, and he shouldn't trust what Snape said?
After ruling out many possibilities, Ivan had no choice but to temporarily set aside his investigation into the murderer.
After all, there was no way to start.
The person who sent him the package had taken no action over the week, and no Young Wizards had died from poisoning during meals in the Great Hall.
This indicated that the food he usually ate was safe.
Given this, Ivan shifted most of his focus to practicing Enchantment Magic and crafting Alchemical Devices.
After a week of effort, Ivan successfully reduced the preparation time for Enchantment Magic to less than a second. Although he hadn't tested it in combat, it was more than sufficient for running alchemical arrays.
Crafting the Alchemical Arm was much more challenging. He failed twice, but for such a high-difficulty Alchemical Item, Ivan hadn't expected success on the first try. Once the next batch of materials arrived, a few more practice sessions should do the trick.
What truly troubled Ivan was that Dumbledore had been absent since the start of the school year.
His name didn't appear on the Marauder's Map, as if Dumbledore was deliberately avoiding him. But Ivan couldn't fathom why Dumbledore would do this.
Because of this, the plan to find the Magic Power Storage Room was at an impasse. Ivan had to abandon his illusions and rely on his own efforts, dedicating some of his free time each day to searching the Hogwarts Library for any mentions related to the school's founding.
Notably, Ivan's mysterious behavior over the past few days caught Hermione's attention.
After enduring numerous inquiries from the young witch, Ivan had no choice but to reveal some information, telling her that he was searching for the Magic Power Storage Room to craft a Magical Item using its abundant magic.
Hermione, naturally, joined in without a second thought, helping to search for information.
Considering that more hands made the work lighter, the young witch also recruited the idle Harry and Ron.
Though they sat in the library with sighs and complaints, they diligently flipped through books, significantly speeding up the process of sifting through information.
Three days later, Hermione's face suddenly lit up with joy as she turned to Ivan, excitedly saying, "I found a clue, Ivan!"
"What? Do you know where the Magic Storage Room is?" Ivan's expression changed, and he quickly asked.
"No, but I think someone might know", Hermione shook her head and handed him the book. "The Grey Lady! According to 'A History of Hogwarts,' she is the daughter of one of the four founders, Rowena Ravenclaw, and must be very familiar with the castle."
"Lady Grey—Helena Ravenclaw. Yes, why didn't I think of her before?" Ivan muttered to himself.
As a ghost who had been around since the school's founding, she might know more secrets than even Headmaster Dumbledore.
If there really was a Magic Power Storage Room in Hogwarts, she would definitely know about it!
With this thought, Ivan became very excited. He grabbed Hermione and kissed her face several times. "You're amazing, Hermione!"
The young witch blushed. Just as she was about to say something, a reprimanding voice reached their ears.
"Quiet! This is the Library. You're disturbing others who are trying to read."
Ivan turned around to see Madam Pince, the librarian, glaring at them disapprovingly.
Not only that, but his loud exclamation had also drawn the attention of most of the students in the library. Clearly, they had all seen him kissing Hermione.
Realizing this, Ivan's face turned red with embarrassment. He didn't dare stay there a moment longer and quickly pulled Hermione out of the library.
Once they were outside the library doors, Hermione regained her composure and asked, "The Grey Lady usually wanders around the Ravenclaw Tower. How do you plan to get in there?"
"According to A History of Hogwarts, for nearly a thousand years, no one except Ravenclaw students has been able to answer the Bronze Knocker's questions..."
Hermione spoke fluently, reciting information from the book.
Ivan's face darkened. Hermione's words reminded him of the question the door knocker had asked him in front of the Ravenclaw Tower.
What is the essence of magic?
Could a young wizard really answer that?
Even Dumbledore and Voldemort might not know the answer.
Ivan inwardly grumbled about the biased Bronze Eagle. When he had waited by the door in his Animagus form during his second year, he had seen a few Ravenclaws. The Bronze Eagle had asked them riddles or logic puzzles.
Only for him, the questions were extremely difficult, probably because he was from another house. No wonder it was said that no one had answered correctly in a thousand years.
But he didn't need to answer the questions.
"Don't worry, I can transform into my Animagus form and fly in through the window. I don't need to answer any questions", Ivan said with a smile.
Hermione hesitated and nodded. After the Flame Cup competition last year, she had seen Ivan's Animagus form—a large eagle with a wingspan of over three meters. She wasn't sure if it could fit through the window.
Actually, the simplest way to enter the tower would be to have a Ravenclaw student bring him in. However, Ivan had repeatedly ordered them to keep it a secret, so he probably didn't want anyone else to know.
Just as Hermione thought, Ivan didn't want his search for the Magic Power Storage Room to become common knowledge.
So, even though he had a good chance that Helena knew the location of the Magic Power Storage Room, Ivan didn't plan to act immediately. He intended to wait until everyone was asleep and then talk to Helena alone.
Not to mention, he still had two more Defense Against the Dark Arts classes to endure.
Ivan only hoped that Umbridge would behave herself today and not cause any trouble...
