Chapter 770: The Infinity War of Universe 838 (First Update)
Chapter 770: The Infinity War of Universe 838 (First Update)
Without a moment's hesitation, Stephen agreed to Jerry's request.
According to the principles of Kamar-Taj, as the Supreme Sorcerer, Stephen should have prevented Jerry from traversing the multiverse, as it could potentially bring a crisis to Earth. However, Stephen trusted Jerry and believed that Jerry had a sense of responsibility and would not do anything to harm Earth.
Moreover, Stephen understood just how powerful Jerry was. Even if he refused, combining the strength of Kamar-Taj and all the Avengers would still not be enough to stand against Jerry.
The Ancient One chose Stephen as the Supreme Sorcerer over others not only because of his remarkable magical talent but also because of his flexibility and adaptability. If it had been Mordo, he would have immediately and sternly refused upon learning of Jerry's plan to enter the multiverse.
If Jerry had insisted on entering the multiverse, it would have led to a massive battle involving the entire Kamar-Taj. However, the outcome would have been clear: Kamar-Taj would have been annihilated.
To be an excellent leader, having strong beliefs is important, but being flexible is equally crucial. The Ancient One was a prime example of this, capable of sacrificing himself to protect Earth and using forbidden dark powers to achieve eternal life to better protect it.
He could also feign death, pass the mantle of Supreme Sorcerer to Stephen, and then live in eternal freedom. He would even come to warn Jerry as he had done before.
If Stephen had truly refused, Jerry would not have done much to him, mainly out of respect for the Ancient One. At most, he would have sought other means.
But Stephen was smart. He accepted the favor, understanding that if Kamar-Taj needed help in the future, he would not stand idly by.
"Alright, let's get started!"
With Stephen's agreement, Jerry anchored the time and began the teleportation within the Sanctum Sanctorum.
On the first traversal, Jerry arrived at a normal Earth and found the local Stephen. However, there was no Avengers here; instead, there was a Defenders alliance led by Stephen.
Similarly, there was no Illuminati or Professor X on this Earth.
On the second traversal, Jerry arrived at a highly technologically advanced Earth, but everything was the opposite of the normal Earth. There was a Kamar-Taj, and Stephen was the Supreme Sorcerer, but there was no Professor X.
On the third traversal, Jerry arrived at an ancient Earth where dinosaurs and humans coexisted. Stephen was a sorcerer in a human tribe, and there was no Professor X.
On the fourth traversal, Jerry arrived at a desolate Earth that had been successfully invaded by Aliens. Most humans had disappeared, leaving only a few superheroes, including Stephen, still alive. There was no Professor X here either.
On the fifth traversal, Jerry arrived at an Earth set in the 1930s, where Hydra ruled the world. However, the world was not much worse, and Stephen was still the Supreme Sorcerer. There was no Professor X here as well.
On the sixth traversal, Jerry arrived at a fragmented Earth that was beginning to collapse. The only being left was a dark version of Stephen controlled by the Darkhold. This dark Stephen tried to attack Jerry but was immediately defeated.
Fighting the true form of Sisean was too difficult for Jerry, but fighting a puppet controlled by Sisean was much simpler.
The seventh traversal, nothing.
The eighth traversal, nothing.
The seven hundred and twenty-fifth traversal, this time, Jerry finally found the universe where Professor X was located.
In Universe 838, on Titan.
Jerry watched the intense battle below and the bald, elderly man in a wheelchair at the center of the battlefield. A smile finally appeared on his face.
After traversing seven hundred and twenty-five universes, even Jerry was starting to feel impatient.
Fortunately, this time, he finally found the universe with Professor X.
The situation clearly showed that the superheroes of this universe were in a final battle against Thanos.
On Thanos' side, the scenario was similar to the main universe, with a loyal Black Order and various powerful cosmic armies. His own gauntlet was already embedded with five Infinity Stones, lacking only the Time Stone.
On Earth's side, the leader was Doctor Strange, Stephen, and the Kamar-Taj mages under his command, including Mordo.
Additionally, there was Captain Carter with her shield, Maria Captain Marvel, the Fantastic Four, Black Bolt and his Inhuman army, Ultron's robot army, and Professor X with his X-Men.
Unfortunately, Jerry did not see Jean Grey among the X-Men.
"I am Fate!"
Thanos roared below, using the power of the Infinity Gauntlet to send all the Earth heroes flying.
Although the Earth superheroes' defensive forces were barely holding off Thanos' cosmic army, Thanos, with the power of the Infinity Gauntlet, was almost invulnerable and overwhelming all the superheroes.
If the battle continued, the Earth superheroes and the defensive forces would inevitably be defeated in this war.
"We can't do this. We need to use the power of the Darkhold, or we won't stop him!"
Stephen, the leader of the defenders, seeing the dire situation, pulled out the Darkhold he had prepared.
However, Professor X and Mr. Fantastic, among others, clearly disagreed with Stephen's approach. While defending against Thanos' attacks, they loudly tried to dissuade Stephen.
But Stephen had lost all hope and, despite everyone's protests, reached out to open the Darkhold, intending to harness Sisean's powerful chaotic energy to defeat Thanos.
"This is not a wise decision!"
At that moment, a hand suddenly reached out and stopped Stephen from opening the Darkhold.
It was Jerry, who had teleported down from the sky to prevent him.
If his memory served correctly, even if Stephen opened the Darkhold and obtained Sisean's power, he would still be unable to defeat Thanos with five Infinity Stones. Moreover, he would fall into Sisean's trap, allowing Sisean to devour another universe.
In the end, it was Professor X and others who found the legendary Vishanti Tome and used its methods to kill Thanos.
When Stephen regained his senses, he realized his mistake and voluntarily accepted execution.
Thor had a grudge against Sisean, and Jerry did not want Sisean to devour another universe and become even more powerful. Plus, this universe's Stephen had good intentions.
Therefore, he acted in time to prevent Stephen from opening the Darkhold.
