Chapter 770: Ivan: Be Careful… Be Very Careful!
Chapter 770: Ivan: Be Careful… Be Very Careful!
After bidding farewell to Hermione, Ivan, Harry, and Ron made their way back to the dormitory.
As they pushed open the dormitory door, Ivan saw Seamus and Neville huddled around a table by the window, staring at a large package that had been placed there.
"What's going on, Seamus?" Ivan asked as he approached.
"Just a moment ago, an owl delivered this package. It's strange, there's no name on it, so we don't know who it's for", Seamus replied.
Ivan furrowed his brow as he looked at the package on the table, recalling Snape's warning in Potions class. Something didn't feel right.
"Now that we're all here, why don't we just open it and see who it's for?" Ron, curious, pushed past Seamus and reached out to grab the package.
Ivan was momentarily distracted and didn't have time to warn him. He quickly gripped his wand, ready to intervene if necessary.
Ron easily opened the package.
To Ivan's relief, the expected explosion or curse didn't occur, and no terrifying dark creature sprang out. Instead, the package contained a large bag of candies!
Fizzing Whizbees, Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Bott's Every Flavour Beans...
"Even the latest licorice wands!" Ron exclaimed, pulling out a box of brown, wand-shaped sweets. He had seen these new licorice wands at Honeydukes in Hogsmeade last year, and they weren't cheap.
Seamus and Neville were also picking through the candies, selecting their favorites.
Ivan, who had little interest in sweets, immediately noticed a note tucked among the candy boxes. He grabbed it and unfolded it, reading the contents.
Ivan froze.
"Careful... Snape?" Harry leaned in to read the note.
"What are you talking about, Harry? This package couldn't be from Snape, could it?" Ron joked.
"I mean, the note says, 'Be careful, Snape!'" Harry explained.
Ron and Seamus were taken aback, and Ivan handed the note over for them to see.
After passing it around, they all began to speculate about who had sent the candies and the note, and why they should be wary of Snape.
"Harry, could it be Sirius Black?" Ron suddenly asked.
"That's impossible. If Sirius Black had sent it, he would have signed it", Harry shook his head. Sirius Black had been cleared of his charges and no longer needed to hide. He could have sent the package directly without all the secrecy.
"Maybe he wanted to surprise you! Who else could it be?" Ron shrugged.
In their third year, Sirius Black had anonymously sent Harry and Ivan a Firebolt, a very generous gift.
Furthermore, Sirius Black and Snape had a deep-seated rivalry, and they had almost come to blows at the Safe House. There was a motive for the note.
Hearing Ron's reasoning, Harry became uncertain.
It seemed unlikely that someone would send them so many candies for no reason. This large package would cost at least a few dozen Galleons.
Ivan, however, immediately ruled out Sirius Black as the sender. He suspected that the package might have been sent with malicious intent, possibly even laced with poison.
Seamus, who had been idle, didn't join the discussion. He listened to the others while unwrapping a Chocolate Frog, about to pop it into his mouth.
“Don’t eat that, Seamus!” Ivan was startled and instinctively snatched the Chocolate Frog from Seamus’s hand, tossing it to the ground and swiftly waving his wand.
“Incendio!”
A flame shot out and exploded, reducing the leaping Chocolate Frog to ashes.
Ivan didn’t relax for a moment. He waved his wand again, summoning a stream of water to clean his left hand, which had touched the Chocolate Frog. Only then did he check the System’s status bar.
Thankfully… thankfully, he hadn’t been affected!
Ivan let out a sigh of relief, realizing he had been far too careless. He should have destroyed everything in the package the moment he realized something was wrong.
If this Chocolate Frog or the note had been cursed…
Ivan thought of Dumbledore’s blackened right hand and shuddered.
Be cautious… be very cautious!
Ivan reminded himself, but when he turned around, he found Seamus staring at him with a puzzled expression.
Harry, Ron, and Neville were also looking at him strangely.
“Ahem, I believe this Sickle could be from the Dark Lord or a Death Eater,” Ivan coughed lightly, trying to hide his embarrassment. He continued with a calm and composed expression.
“Don’t forget that the Dark Lord has been trying to kill Harry. He failed in the graveyard last year, so he might resort to poisoning us in secret.”
Ivan didn’t mention Snape’s warning, instead shifting the blame onto Harry.
After all, he couldn’t explain why Voldemort was deliberately targeting him.
He couldn’t very well say that he had beaten Voldemort two months ago, and now the Dark Lord hated him so much that he would do anything to get back at him, right?
“Are you sure about that, Ivan?”
Seamus’s mouth twitched at Ivan’s explanation. The Dark Lord sending Harry a bag of candies with poison inside?
That was ridiculous…
Harry also found it hard to believe. If the sender intended to poison them, why would they specifically warn them to be careful of Snape?
“It could be a ruse. Better to be safe than sorry,” Ivan said firmly, then decisively waved his wand to gather the scattered candies back into the package and burned everything to ashes.
Harry and Seamus exchanged a glance, speechless. They suspected Ivan had developed paranoia.
Ron stared at the ashes scattered on the table, feeling a bit regretful. So many snacks, and he hadn’t even had a chance to taste one.
“If you’re hungry, I can go to Honeydukes tomorrow and bring some back for you…” Ivan, of course, noticed Ron’s thoughts and shook his head in exasperation.
But then a thought struck Ivan.
What if the owner of Honeydukes was under the Imperius Curse?
Could the sender have deliberately sent a bag of candies to lure him there for some reason?
Ivan fell into deep thought. In the end, he decided to be cautious. He would pretend to go to Honeydukes but Apparate to Knockturn Alley in Hogsmeade to buy the snacks instead. That should be safe enough…
With that thought, Ivan relaxed and looked down at the floating note.
Snape had just warned him this morning to be careful at Hogwarts and not to eat anything randomly. Now, someone had sent him a package and specifically warned him to be careful of Snape…
This was truly… interesting!
