Chapter 77: The Space Inside the Box
Chapter 77: The Space Inside the Box
During the time since his return, Jerry would spend most of his free time in the library whenever he didn't have classes.
After flipping through numerous magic books, he finally found a relevant introduction in a book titled On Legilimens and Legilimency.
In reality, Legilimency, being a highly advanced and dangerous spell, was not included in Hogwarts' seven-year curriculum.
Even in the school library, there were only brief introductions and no detailed methods for learning it.
Of course, the Restricted Section might have more, but he hadn't been there and wasn't sure.
In the book On Legilimens and Legilimency, he learned that Legilimency is divided into two types: Legilimens and Legilimency.
Legilimens are wizards who are naturally born with the ability to read minds, meaning they can do so without any training.
However, these natural Legilimens often have such powerful mental abilities that they struggle to control them. If there are too many people around, they can become quite distressed.
Jerry thought it must be similar to the American witch, Queenie Goldstein, from Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
On the other hand, Legilimency is a spell that was developed by ancient Legilimens who studied their own abilities. By looking into someone's eyes and casting the spell, a wizard can read the other person's thoughts and even delve into their memories.
Wizards who master Legilimency to an extremely high level are known as Master Legilimens, like Dumbledore, Voldemort, and Snape.
They don't need to utter the spell; they can simply make eye contact and instantly know what you're thinking.
To fully counter Legilimency, one must learn Occlumency, the art of shielding one's mind.
Alternatively, one could avoid making eye contact and focus on thinking about something else, making it harder for the Legilimens to invade their thoughts. However, the book didn't specify how effective this method was.
Jerry believed it should have some effect, otherwise, Voldemort's misdeeds at school would have been easily exposed by Dumbledore with just a glance.
"Jerry, are you okay!"
Hermione, seeing Jerry safely return with Professor Mcgonagall, immediately ran up and hugged him.
The scene had been terrifying, and now that she saw her best friend unharmed, she finally felt relieved.
All the Gryffindors were returning to the common room with the prefect, but Hermione stayed behind out of concern for Jerry's safety.
This was usually not allowed, but since she was the one who had raised the alarm and was a witness, she would need to provide a detailed account of what happened. Professor Flitwick, who was left in charge, agreed to let her stay.
"I'm fine. Professor Quirrell was quite badly injured and was taken to the hospital wing by Madam Pomfrey!"
Jerry paused for a moment, then smiled and patted Hermione on the shoulder.
On the other side, Daphne from the Slytherin team pouted and let out a cold snort.
At that moment, Snape entered the Great Hall. For a wizard of his caliber, dealing with a troll was no big deal.
What was truly important was figuring out how the troll had ended up in the dungeons and how it had entered Hogwarts.
However, after thorough questioning by the four Heads of House, it became clear that neither Hermione nor Jerry knew how the troll had appeared in the first floor of the dungeons.
Hermione had encountered the troll and Professor Quirrell at the entrance to the dungeons, while Jerry had only arrived after hearing Hermione's scream when he left the common room.
So, to find out what really happened, the only option was to ask Professor Quirrell, the first person to encounter the Troll.
However, they had to wait for Madame Pomfrey to stabilize Professor Quirrell’s injuries before they could ask him any questions.
Actually, when answering the questions, Jerry deliberately avoided making eye contact with Snape to prevent him from using Legilimency. He also activated Superman Mode to clear his mind and repeat his story.
However, from the expression on Snape’s face, it seemed he had not used Legilimency on Jerry.
After all, anyone with a shred of decency would not casually pry into someone else’s mind. Besides, apart from omitting the part about the Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle, everything else Jerry said was true and had no reason to be doubted.
After listening to Jerry and Hermione’s accounts, Professor Mcgonagall repeated that she would award Jerry ten points, much to the delight of the entire Slytherin house.
To Jerry’s surprise, Snape even unexpectedly awarded Hermione three points.
The reason was that Hermione had promptly informed the professors about the situation in the dungeons, which was worthy of a reward.
Once everything was settled, Professor Mcgonagall personally escorted Hermione back to the Gryffindor common room, while Snape led the Slytherin young wizards back to their common room.
Professor Flitwick and Professor Sprout patrolled the castle to check if any other Trolls had entered.
At midnight,
Jerry quietly got out of bed and retrieved the Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle and the small box that had fallen from Professor Quirrell’s wizard robe from the two abandoned classrooms.
Then, with Superman Mode activated, he carefully made his way to the Room of Requirement on the Eighth Floor.
During his journey, he encountered Mrs. Norris again, but the catnip powder ensured she didn’t cause him any trouble.
Inside the Room of Requirement,
Jerry placed the Tranquilizer Sniper Rifle back behind the statue of the half-man wizard. Then, with some anticipation, he pulled out the palm-sized box and slowly opened it.
"Indeed, it’s a magic spatial equipment created through alchemy!"
Holding the box up to his eyes, he could see through the palm-sized opening as if he were parting a cloud in the sky and peering through a hole to a spacious field, roughly the size of a football pitch, with a typical English cottage.
"How am I supposed to fit through such a small opening?"
Looking at the palm-sized hole and then at his own size, Jerry was a bit stumped.
But then he thought, if Professor Quirrell could release a three-meter-tall Troll through such a small opening, his own size shouldn’t be an issue!
Placing the open box on the ground, Jerry mimicked the way Newt entered the suitcase world in the movie, extending one foot toward the box’s opening while focusing on the thought of entering.
Sure enough, a spatial ripple appeared above the box, and his foot actually slipped into the space inside.
At the entrance of the box, there was a ladder about nine meters long. His foot landed on the first rung.
Once he was steady on the ladder, he quickly lifted his other foot and extended it into the box’s space as well.
Following the ladder downward, he soon disappeared completely into the box, leaving only the palm-sized box on the floor of the Room of Requirement.
